National Football league starts next weekend absent so doubt TG4 will be sending cameras to Crystal cup games. Think Armagh V Cork is next Sundays TG4 game.

With Limerick coming out of a bad beating last weekend while the Banner put up a high score in winning their game easily, we might be better off being absent, absent! Of course, nothing of real import can be read into games at this time of year. All the same, I thought SLR made a good point on another thread about lads  (particularly in the forwards )  that should be doing their utmost to impress and pin down a place in the first fifteen for the League and Championship. The apparent lack of application/graft there is a worry.
Last year Limerick ensured that they maintained their place above Clare in the pecking order. But Clare are only dying to get a chance to turn that around. This isn`t a big competition but a Clare win could do a lot for their confidence in the lead in to the League game. I fancy the Banner to come out on top this time - and then we will be in for a real humdinger in the League with the Limerick lads out to show that we really are above them in the pecking order while the Clare lads will have plenty confidence in re-arranging that pecking order for 2012. I think Clare have a lot to gain by a win on Saturday.

SB,you are probably right about players being absent, management not wanting to show their hand etc from both teams.Still from a Limerick point of view the fullback line needs to be getting sorted. The lads picked to play will surely give it their all and will want to impress for league select ion and ultimately the big one against Tipp.

Hard to know about this one, Limerick who are in a good place arrive with a new manager and Clare with a manager form the bridge who won’t want to lose this in his hometown either. One never enjoys losing to the other and amazingly enough when one is one top the other often turns up and bates the other.

Sa baile makes a lot of good point especially about a humdinger of a league match but I can’t see a lot to gain from winning for either side really

Are you kidding me at this time of year! The managers don`t even know what their hand is they`re hardly going to be trying to not show it!

You`re dead right. The managers don`t even have the full compliment of players available to them in Clare or Limerick with the college`s commitments, injuries and NAP`s involvement in the Club Championship. It will give both sets of Managers a chance to try out lads in various positions and give fringe players a go. It should hopefully be a good contest and it would be nice from a Clare perspective to progress instead of having to wait until the 25th. Feb for a competitive outing. All in all its a nice competition to have this time of year.

I wouldn`t be overly worried about the forwards at this time  (what a bizarre thing for a Limerick man to say ) , considering that the NaP players are unavailable and you`d have a feeling you wouldn`t see their true colours anyway until the ground gets harder. At the same time, it`ll be interesting to see how they will get on against this Clare defence that has earned a bad reputation in the last couple of years - will be interesting to see if there`s any evidence of Davy shoring up the rearguard. However, we need some sort of formation in the backline taking hold almost from the get go - if they can`t hold their own in Division 1b then a lot of people`s preconceptions of a green summer being on the horizon are going to be blown out of the water.

Good point Lopper, I think the full back line is the headline issue for Limerick in this early season. As you said it feels strange to be saying the forwards will be ok, the half back line has some good options with a question mark over who`ll play centre, but the full back line is the big question mark, and especially full back.
