I`m thinking of doing an online web design course, my job isn`t looking too secure at the moment and although I have no IT experience worth talking about , I`m considering giving it a go, just wondering if there are any designers out there willing to give me some feedback on the industry. Thanks

Theres a lot more to web design then a lot of people think. Are you going to learn the lot? design, programming (HTML & CSS ) , search engine optimisation, social media marketing etc etc? Or specialise in one or two of the sectors? A lot of cowboys out there making dud sites for people.

I was thinking of doing the cmit fetac level 5 webdesign course they offer online , as a taster , they decide if I like it/any good at it and do more training.

Grand job, sounds like a good plan. Good you realise that it`s only a taster. Know someone who teaches it and she says people arrive in thinking it`s going to be easy.

Clare County Enterprise Board offering a course in Web Design at the moment.
Give them a ring on Monday at 6841922.
Their courses are well subsidised. Shouldn`t cost anymore than 200/250 euro.

Hi, i think i can help a bit.
The main technologies are HTML, CSS and javascript/JQUERY.
Look up some site like
http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/default.asp
also downloads NOTEPAD++, this is a handy editor for making scripts.
another excellent trick is, if you use the firefox browser, you can look at client side code with firebug, i only found this out in the last few months.
BTW the AFR code looks ancient haha, all table s rather than divs : )
sorry liam but its true . )
if you want to see some tutorials on web design,
type in something like jquery galleries into google, and have a look at some sites there.
and yes, there is much more to front end stuf than the way it was.

We will very shortly launch a new, fast server plus original code that as been re-written completely by AFR Coder, with many new front end and back end features that will greatly improve the site.
And just a small personal gripe. While my identity as owner of the site is well publicised, I don`t like being referred to here as either `liam` or `Liam`, especially by someone I do not know personally. I follow the tradition of GAA writers in former times who used pen names like `An Fear Ciúin`, `Cairbre` or the great `Deiseach. I hope you would indulge my little foible.
