Here we go for my favourite greyhound race in the world  (yes I even prefer it to the Irish Derby )  I watched the draw live this lunch time, I suppose the pick of the draws for me would be Heat 20, but there are plenty of quite tough heats despite at least four qualifying from all heats.

Add your portfolio of bets for dissection....here`s my very mixed bag

Loyal Honcho 33/1  (not looking too clever now, plenty of 40s )
Farloe Black 40/1  (Plenty of 50/1 now.... )
Droopys Robinho 50/1  (not looking at all clever now - NR )
Romeo Maldini 50/1
Love Tiger 150/1

I`ve high hopes for Romeo Maldini, running the track so well and can win from in front or behind, showing very good middle speed and trackcraft.

Things are gone fairly quiet around here,

fancy Advantage Johnny to go a long way myself. I always like a fast starting genuine wide seed for wimbledon. Romeo Maldini is the type to keep qualifying, and he has the pace to win it out. don`t know much about his trainer though. I`ve laid Catunda Harry, Ballymac Under & Barnfield On Air. Although I`m slightly worried about Harry, I thought he would hate the track but his trials would indicate that he is running it well.

Have looked over th draw a few times and still trying to pick a couple to back tomorrow...

Of the Irish dogs, My few to get through the rounds..

Tyrur Laurel
Tyrue Kieran
Holy Roman Emporer
Rossacredibility

The first 3 being great competition dogs...

Of the rest...

Litter mates Barnfield Slippy and Kilkenny Lonjack can go a long way..

Would lay Barnfield on Air all day, not a good competition dog, its all well and good running TREC`s against mediocre dogs at rinky dink tracks, but this is the real deal and this dog wont come close.. Would also lay Westmead Lord, cannot see him being the same dog as last year. Also of the Tyrur dogs cannot see Rhino pulling off the fairlytail double. Toosey Blue, maybe (ish ) .

Well here we are on 2nd round weekend and where do we stand?

I`m already on the ropes with Farloe Black gone and Romeo Maldini haunted to qualify last time. Think it could be his Waterloo tonight unless he gets his act together. You`re in trouble too with Rossacredibility and HRE gone already Hang Blaa.

As for tonight. I’m happy to lay Barnfield On Air in that field from trap 1. Despite Peter Meldrum napping him, Farloe Reason, Maldini and Side Leg are no mugs outside him and I think he`ll have to trap in front to win, even then I don`t think he`s unbeatable  and even if he does trap an on form Maldini could still pick him up. I was happy to lay 6/4.

Surprised to see such money for Plough Lane, I don’t think he’s getting home. Punted from 3/1 to 9/4 with the magic sign. I thought Love Tiger each way was worth a pot at 12/1. That’s dried up now though. I would like to lay the favourite at the tissue price but would probably not lay evens. Nice dog but plenty to prove yet I feel.

If looking for a short one the 8/15 Tyrur Laurel looks as good an odds-on shot as there is on the card with no dog outside him.

Looking forward to a good nights racing and hopefully my survivors get through.

Under pressure ok... but my two Tyrur dogs are going strong, and of the others Slippy and Lonjack are still there.

Still a lot of poor dogs in it, real deal will start next week.

Tonight Laurel is 4/11 and Kieran 4/6.... no thanks. Fancy Express Ego to turn over the Lord though tonight, despite being in the 1 box. Romeo has nothin of note outside him and with reason and boa likely to hit the corner together, will conside punting him if he goes to 4/1  (currently 7/2 ) .

Had a nice touch in an unraced final at HQ last night so will invest in something.. just undecided as yet..

Romeo Maldini is 9/2 with Ladbrokes and a few more of them HB. I know some pretty disappointed lads who had a dog plotted up for an unraced stake recently in HX but didn`t get in and ran out of trial time. Had to trial again and ended up blazing around... typical.

The same mugs who were creaming themselves to back himself and Ballymac Under at 8/1 for the Derby hopefully!

I think Advantage Johnny will put it up to them tonight too. If I cop my trixie tonight I`ll be retiring to the Algarve. Romeo Maldini, Advantage Johnny and Love Tiger....

how ye lads . . . . only paying attention from this week . . . . i haven`t much time for 5 dog heats with 4 to qualify tbh, they should really limit the entry to 96 runners and 12 reserves . . . . if there`s 140 derby dogs out there i`ll eat my hat . . . .

they`re falling like flies tonight with westmead lord, romeo maldini, shanacashel lad, advantage johnny, eye on the veto, ninja jamie all out . . . .

barney clicked at 5/4 . . . .

catunda & t.kieran beaten but through . . . .

and bet of the night express ego  (different dog out of trap 1 )  winning at 5/2 . . . .

Was having a poor night until Love Tiger popped up for me at 12/1. What a time....28.29! Great night now. Hard to believe my docket on him is my last one remaining. I`m getting more fond of that docket now I must say.

I`ve been to the Don four or five times but never on final night. It`s a grimey enough place, though it was free in and you got a free drink for your trouble. I usually got the tube out and got a taxi from there. Last time I was there I was coming from Epsom and saw the mighty Hee Haws Barney raise the roof with his first round victory...a rather underwhelming 29.00.... The high point of his career.

Poorest thing about it are the bookmakers, don`t be expecting a Shelbourne Park style ring. There are only four Joes there and one of them is betting chances.

Love Tiger oi oi oi !!!!

Fair play SS*, fancy selling a share in that docket !! 2nd fasted time ever at the don !!

Romeo gone and had a few bobon him at SP, but no harm, had expess ego which more than covered it... and a small bet on kilmacows finest, Ullid Conor.

My antipost is looking well still, with kieran, laurel, lonjack and barfield slippy still hanging on in there...

Real racing starts now...

(in the meantime fill your boots on norwich boy in kilarney today   )

12/1 Love Tiger was a great result for me alright. Well done on Ullid Conor, I just couldn`t be with him last night. I`ve too many memories of him nearly slipping into A2 over the winter.... He seems to come alive down in SW19.

I tell you what though, the biggest kick of the competition so far was backing Loyal Honcho last night at 7/2. That was a crazy price against those graders, he absolutely destroyed them. Sometimes at the Don they get it so wrong with the Irish dogs, 90% of our raiders would destroy the sort of dogs that inhabit the early rounds of the English derby. I remember being at the don a few years ago and Mineola Farloe was running in a first round heat. Think they put him in at 11/4.... we got fcuking stuck in big time. Won by half the track. The rest of the field would be A2 if they came to Shelbourne.

I suppose conventional wizdom is that Love Tiger is a flash in the pan, still 50/1.... I hope they`re wrong. Even if the track was 30 spots fast it was still an excellent run. Loyal Honcho back in the frame now too. They`re my last two standing. When`s the draw?

well done to Peter Cronin and Machu Pichu on the win last night. saw this dog run well through the early rounds of the IGB Unraced but must admit i thought it was a big ask to bring him straight from that to Wimbledon without a bit of racing in between. Hope he keeps going now as i have a litter of Top Savings here almost ready to start off and he needs something to grab a few headlines after Micks Savings injury . . . .

Was in the don last night, Tyrur`s Kieran & Laurel, Melodys Pat, Kryptonite & Loyal honcho all ran well,

Loyal honcho got bashed and bumped at every opportunity but still showed great pace and courage to qualify, whether at his age he`ll handle the quick runs now remains to be seen.

Great to see loyal honcho roll back the years, tyrur laurel & kryptonite also very impressive, strange to see kieran not kick on after leading to the turn, he seemed to steer middle out of the boxes and ease around the bend, not his normal style. I wonder is he feeling something.
