what is the best song ever (in your opinion ) ? i`m interested to know what one song you would take on a desert island. any song that someone considers the best must be good. mine is thunder road by the boss. only really discovered it properly in the last couple of years but would encourage everyone to listen to the s**h out of it

Hate the idea of a best song ever being a cover through, so I`ll have to go with Cohen`s Hallelujah for lyrics.
As for an overall song, Lynard Skynard Freebird is one of my favourites, Dead Flowers by the Stones (although contradicting myself I do like Towns Van Zant`s version ) and Sympathy for the Devil. Beatles` Day in the Life rates highly too.

I was just about to point it out Chuck, but you got there first. Good spot.
BTW - there`s no best song ever.
Well, maybe, Waiting Around to Die by Townes.

At this moment I`d have to plump for One Nation Under a Groove by Funkadelic.
But if we`re on a desert island then it`d be Island Letter by Shuggie Otis.

I hate when these type of threads appear here and people respond with a big long list of songs. Totally defeats the purpose.
Mine is `Give it a Lash Jack` by Liam Harrison and the GOAL celebrities. Memorable vocals by Wardy, John O`Leary and Arnold O`Byrne and absolutely fantastic lyrics about Ruudy Gullit dying his dreadlocks green and the warsaw pact being changed by Ronnie Whelan.

can`t find the full version anywhere.

A bit of a buzzkill allright, especially with the slow entry..
but the song is a big FK U to the MAN, love the lyrics
``warm bodies, I sense are not machines that can only make money....go see the foreman, go see the profiteer....we`re takin` our time movin` s**h for this holy slime...the shepherd won`t leave me alone he`s in my face and I..can`t start till I`m dead``

Not a candidate for best song ever but Des Cahill played the original Sunday Game theme tune as an introduction to some tripe by Liam Horan (I think ) on his drivetime show this evening. The heartbeat quickened for a few seconds as I heard it.
