Never heard of a "Topper" - was always called a pencil parer ... or sometimes a sharpener.

I`d say this argument has been goin on since they were still using real lead in pencils
Quick survey of the office and everyone agrees its a topper
South east people questioned only in fairness
i think sharpner is acceptable but only if a teacher or someone in authority used it
pearer and pointer are very pompus sounding especially pearer

You wouldn`t belive the confusion I caused the day after starting a job in Australia when requestion a Pencil, a Topper and Rubber. They had to clarify what the latter 2 were and that I did not need contraception!

Im a teacher in England and I`ve been calling it a topper - the children think its great craic - they never heard of it.

A Topper of course.
Anything else is just stupid. They probably call rubbers "erasers".

This is weird.
My daughter was doing some homework the other evening and the top of the pencil broke. I asked her "where is your topper?" and I got laughed at. I`ll convert her yet, then her class, then her school. Bring back the topper I say.

I take it, given your requests, there was no mouse-mat going and you didn`t need to get the security ID photo taken.
I`d be a topper man myself.
When it comes to pencils.
And, I suppose I have to add, seeing as the `topper` word is up in AFR lights at the moment, my late mother, in moments of obvious weakness, would call me `a pure topper`.
She was a Clare woman, but I don`t know if that was a Clare expression or not.
