Picket up a leaflet last weekend, apparently Cork and Galway are playing a challenge game at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday evening 25th May.
That could be an interesting game, especially if full sides are played.
Hard to know how Waterford were last Sunday, but at least there is now some competition for places on the Cork team.
I`d say that game on Sunday week will make up Gerald`s mind on the young pretenders.
Anyone from Galwy know if Galway are taking this seriously, will young Canning be tried out?

I know Galway and Tipp played a challenge last week but it was pretty much 2nd string teams all round.
Galway team was
C Callinan, D Joyce, A Gaynor (G Kennedy ) , A Leech, A Harte, D Forde, A Keary, A Smith, E Lynch (K Burke ) , J Greene, K Hayes, F Coone, K Burke (S Glynn ) , I Tannion, K Wade.
I imagine they will pick a stronger team against Cork though as they gear up for the Antrim game.

That Galway team V Tipp looks ( with respect ) not too much like a championship team. Ger would want to start showing his hand if he`s to make any impression in 2008.
A rather strange choice of fixture given their recent meeting in the league final!

Any idea what kind of team Ger is bringing down to Cork on Sunday week, it could be a cracker if two strong teams are fielded!
My view of the order is as follows re hurling 2008
1. Kilkenny
2. Galway
3.Tipperary
4.Cork
5. Waterford

Anyone know is Joe Canning coming to Cork next Sunday evening, it would be worth going to see how he does against the Cork backs?

Per the leaflet its 7pm at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Lots of talk about it,seems like two strong teams will be put out as its entering end game especially for Cork.
Any idea if the Canning brothers are coming. Cork are motoring well, destroyed Wexford but wouldnt read too much into that.

galway at 2 with all due respect is not credible.
kilkenny
cork
waterford / tipp (due to league success )
galway
the rest
you could argue a case for limerick to be with galway due to their run last year but until such time as galway beat domeone of significance in a knockout game they are unproven

I hear Eugene Cloonan got a call up to return to the galway squad. Any of the galway lads know how he`s playing these days or does he have any chance of making their championship panel? Always thought he was a gifted hurler, just his temperment was a bit suspect at times..

if cloonan is anywhere near the team galway are f**yed.hes way too slow- in both pace and hands and has been for a couple of years now.this was never more highlighted than when he came on last year.hes also a very selfish hurler.he never passes the ball.imo he has never fulfilled his promise.imv the recalling of cloonan is a definate step backwards.

Ditto. He shouldn`t be within an asses roar of the panel. Then again neither should David Forde....

Cloonan was a great prospect but never seemed to get it together, was easily distracted and some games passed him by. Maybe he`s performing well in the club scene?
You could be right twiceasnice but Ger is a goner if Galway dont perform this year and somehow i dont think Ger is ready to hang up his boots yet.
Galway played in the best match of the year so far and came unstuck at the end V Tipp. I think they have more in the tank though.
Cork have been good in challenge games but you dont know what shadow boxing is going on now.
Depending on the teams put out, I think Cork/Galway will determine which is second!

TAN
what exactly are you basing cork`s position on ?
I can`t see anything on last year (when they achieved the unwanted treble of losing 3 times in the championship )
nor in their league campaign to justify that position

Interesting to see that Cloonan is back in business, you know one day Galway will get the right combination and they will win all before them.
Anyone hear whether they are bringing a decent team to Cork on Sunday night?
After the hype of the Rugby game ( does every 4by4 in Cork and Limerick have the Munster stag at this stage? ) it would be great to see a good hurling game.

Galway much better, coming back from 0-8 to 0-1 down at the 20 minute mark. On top in every line and very impressive, with Cork strangely lethargic.

I was at this match myself as well! The first 10 mins Cork were all over Galway but when Galway settled they dominated from then on! As far as I recall the lineups were as follows:
Cork:
Cusack, ONeill, Rock, C Mc Gann, Cadogan, Curran ,ohAilpin, c Naughton, O`Connor, Cronin, Canty, Corry, p Horgan, deane and B O`Connor.
Galway:
Skehill, d Joyce, Dervan, Canning, Cullinane, Lee, Forde, Hynes, Murray, Kerins, K Hayes, Tannian, Farragher, Cloonan and Canning.
Cork were poor allright with Ronan Curran only standing out!D O`Sullivan had a stinker. They have a bit of work to do before the Tipp match. The game showed me how much Cork miss Tom Kenny. Gardiner didn`t play either and he was missed! Cathal Naughton is very fast but there`s an element of hit and miss about him as he will either score a terrific point or give away possession. The rock had a poor game and there was some scchkellpin between him and Cloonan!
The game got messy with all the substitutions in the second half but from a Galway perspective things are improving. Dervan did ok at fullback and Ollie Canning was solid at corner back.
The forwards combined well with Joe canning picking out colleagues with exquisite passes. Farragher had a good game considering he played a club match on Friday as well!Cloonan and the Rock had some battle and Cloonan did well. He didn`t seem to slow the game down as much as I thought he would! He got a lot of the ball!
