On the gum, was tough when I got home last night and tough during a meeting today, I`m getting there tho, didn`t think it would be this hard, not going to submit, I hope, more annoied with myself that I`m putting myself through this now and didn`t just give them up years ago, or even better, not started smoking at all

that`s exactly how i felt, it`d make you want to go out on the street and forcibly dispossess teenagers of their fags! the enxt step is where your mind starts playing tricks on you and you start to say to yourself
"do you know what? i like a smoke and i`m not going let society tell me it`s wrong, i lasted a day or two, i proved i could stay off them so f**t it, if i want a smoke, i`ll jolly well have one" don`t submit to this, try to remember how p**ied you are at yourself for getting hooked in the first place. also you`ll proabbly start reminiscing for the days when you could buy single fags. you`ll even consider buying a box, smoking one and throwing the rest away, or even buying a tip cigar. keep going, remember time passes quicker than we think and you`ll be sitting here before you know it, next wednesday, a fully fledged none smoker for over a week

I havn`t gotten to the I hate smoking/smokers phase yet, to be honest I hope I don`t. I`m using Black and Ambers advice and being tough on myself. If I want a fag I`ll either try to think of something else or I`ll take a nicorette. It`s amasing how people will talk about giving up the fags, or smoking in general when they hear you`re giving them up

Smoking is wonderful, one of life`s great pleasures, but it`s also a great way to cut your life short, so I`m going to keep on the wagon tho

Those are the years you`ll spend p*ssing and sh*tting on yourself and a burden to your offspring, safe them the trouble.

A mate of mine called me a non-smoker last night, I reckon it was the first time in 13 years that I`ve been called that, FANTASTIC.

I am most worried abuot getting into the mindset of "sure I can have 1, I`m not a smoker", I hope never to have a cigerette again and that`s the plan.

that`s the pitfall alright, just keep reminding yourself, the time will pass quick enough and you`ll find you`re off them for a week/fortnight/month/six months etc etc

It`s an awful afliction  (sp. )  btw, I would consider myself reasonibly intelligant, I know why I want to smoke, I know why I don`t want to smoke, I know why I getting these pangs, I know they will pass, but I still don`t trust myself with them, oh well

One thing I never did when I attempted to give up was to put the €7.45 away everyday and then go out on a friday and buy myself something that I wanted but wouldn`t normally buy for myself. Its a bit of an incentive. If theres is something that you do want then work towards saving for it and buy it out of your "Fag Money".

When I gave them up I didn`t go near a pub for a month. This is where I used to fall down all other times I tried. This helps a lot. As is breaking any smoking habits you have. You`ll be grand bofh, you`re better off without them.

i stayed away from the pub for a few weeks too, i`d say it`s nearly harder to go drinking and not smoke now than it was before the smoking ban

I was off them a few months and went back on them the weekend the smoking ban came in. I didnt want to be the only one sitting in the pub while the rest of them went out for a smoke so I just went with them.

I`m lucky that most of the people that I go out with don`t smoke, it`s going to be strange going for a drink without having a smoke, I started smoking when I started drinking, so they have always gone hand in hand for me.

I don`t want to make a big thing out of going out without the fags, if I don`t go out this weekend then my first occassion being out without smoking will be the European Cup Final  (Rugby not soccer ) , think I`d need a bit of practise before that . )

I also don`t like the idea of saving the 7.45, smoking was never about the money to be honest, I don`t see why I should reward myself for not doing something, I don`t save 100 cause of the heroin I didn`t do last night, but I see where your coming from

€7.45 Pardon my ignorance but is that what they cost now? That is some amount of money per year. Stick at it. This time next year you will be so proud of yourself. You have gotten used to not having a cigarette in the pub with your drink because of the smoking ban so stay inside.

I am really looking forward to getting a proper sense of taste and smell. I know I`m going to put on a few stone for the summer  (great timing )  but at least I won`t be wheezing like a mad thing when I try to do exercise in the future.

For anyone loosing hope on a method of giving up..
I tried the book before, worked a treat. I faltered after a yearbut that was my fault not the books so I say for anyone using it go for it..
3 months ago I went to a guy called John Cleary in Waterford, found him on the net, not hypnosis, he describes it as "mind clarity"..haven`t looked back since. Best feeling ever..and not a pound gained. nice few bucks but that paid off nearly double by now for me..
