This Sunday 19th of October , Cusack Park 3.30pm

Kilmurry-Ibrickane v Liscannor

Not the final pairing that many would have predicted before the semi-finals as Doonbeg were seen as warm favourites to beat Liscannor and a close game was expected between Kilmurry and Kilkee in the other semi . However both predictions were wide of the mark as Liscannor outmuscled and outplayed the magpies on the Saturday evening and Kilmurry dismantled the seasiders on a sunny Sunday afternoon .
Kilmurry will be carrying the favourites tag this Sunday in a final that sees the repeat pairing of finalists as the 2002 decider in which they emerged victorious by two points after a titanic encounter with the north Claremen who will have rued their many missed chances in that hours football .
Liscannor will relish being underdogs and will see this as an ideal opportunity to avenge that `02 defeat and register their first ever Championship title as a club so Kilmurry better be very wary - their long unbeaten run will count for nothing if they get beaten in the big one .

The Seven-Day License of Joseph McHugh

Come all ye young fellows, who travel the land,
In search of the craic with guitar in your hand.
Go down to Liscannor, in the County of Clare,
Sure you`ll find a pub in it, that`s ever so rare
Go up to McHugh`s shop the center of town,
You`ll get a warm welcome from Joseph on down
The one-legged canary will sing how`d ye do,
In the seven-day license of Joseph Mchugh.
Fill `em up round the house now, says Joseph McHugh.

You`ll meet men from Moher, Lisdoon, and Renine
Judges from Lahinch, and an odd in between.
Sure a tinker from Tulla drop s in for a glass,
A box of rat poison and oats for his ass.
Joe strolls up the bar like a captain on deck,
Well, he don`t tip his cap, and he don`t give a wreck,
If you`re Irish, or Spanish, or Russian, or Jew,
You`ll get a warm welcome from Joseph McHugh.
Fill `em up round the house now, says Joseph McHugh.

Well he sells streaky bacon all covered in salt,
To ward off blue-bottles from making a haul.
Now he has cups for coursing, some say that`s not fair,
But Liscannor is famous for chasing the hare.
He`s a bachelor gay, at the market I hear,
He may take a wife by the end of the year,
But if his greyhound has pups, you can say tooraloo,
For he`ll never get married, this Joseph McHugh.
Fill `em up round the house now, says Joseph McHugh.

Well there now, you have it, this song I declare,
About this wee pub in the sweet county Clare.
Where time has stood still, and the auld ways remain,
And they laugh at computers and mad college brains.
So if you`re in trouble, find yourself in a jam,
With the wife, or a greyhound, or a half-pound of ham,
You can do a lot worse, the truth I`ll tell you,
Than to visit Liscannor and Joseph McHugh.
Fill `em up round the house now, says Joseph McHugh.

Last chance saloon for Liscannor, tiny parish, lads pushing on so I reckon there`ll only be a point or 2 in it either way.

Just for a bit of balance

You rambling, roving Irishmen
I hope you will draw near
These few and true short verses
I mean to let you hear

It`s all about that awful wreck
I`ll have you to beware
That occurred off the coast of Ireland
In Quilty, in County Clare

On the fourth day of October
In nineteen hundred and seven
A French crew and their captain
Were praying to God in heaven

Their ship she struck upon a rock
And soon she sprang a leak
The captain raised a signal high
Saying, "We`re drowning in the deep"

Those brave fishermen of Quilty
Knew what that signal meant
And for the lives of human flesh
It made them discontent

So across the wild and stormy foam
They willingly did go
Without dread or fear they gave three cheers
We`ll man our own canoes

There were eighteen men in six canoes
With Pat Boyle in the lead
To save those sinking sailors
With him they all agreed

So they tugged and rowed with all their might
Across the raging foam
Three miles out to that wrecked crew
Three miles from house and home

But as they rowed with all their might
I have but one regret
That Clancy, Connors, and Tom Steele
Their ten-oar got upset

Then dashing, thrashing like three fish
They swam right through the deep
Until their comrades picked them up
These heroes true and brave

They took them in their own canoes
Where sailors called aloud
"You brave fishermen of Quilty
You have made your nation proud"

They saved the captain and twelve men
From the sinking ship, The Leon
And took them in their own canoes
To our little isle of green

Well beverage flowed spontaneously
To the sound of Irish tune
Just like their fathers played
The Inniskillen and Clare`s dragoon

I now must drop  my feeble pen
You see, I am no poet
It`s not for gold or silver
These few true lines I wrote

But as I read of those fishermen
I could not it surpass
So help me now and give three cheers
For the men round Quilty Cross

A handy enough footballer PJ, in his time.
Any team news blueprint, any word on Noel Downes?

Thanks for " The Quilty Fishermen " as posted above , they`ll give it a fair few rattles Sunday night if victorious !
As for Downes , he has the cast off , whether he`ll be select ed to start/play is another thing .

Heavy rain forecast for Sunday. It might suit Liscannor. Fri and Sat are ok so the pitch should be fine.

Definitely agree with you there finbarrk , if Sunday was to turn out fairly wey it will only suit one team -Liscannor , they`re a bigger and more physical team than Kilmurry and ground out the win in the semi in wet conditions .
Kilmurry like to move the ball quickly and find space and rain won`t be in their favour .

Heavy rain and high winds forecast early on Sunday, this will probably make it a close game.

Liscannor made a brave bid alright and were down by just two points with five minutes of normal time left , however some poor freetaking and a strong finish  ( stronger bench a factor  )  by K-Ib left the final score , Kilmurry 0.11 Liscannor 0.05 .
Congrats to them , worthy Champions and the very best of luck in Munster clubs.

Poor game, poor conditions a factor, seemed to me KIB were always in control.
A lot of credit should go to Liscannor for getting to the final

I thought it was a reasonable game, given the terrible conditions, conditions probably hindered KIB more.

Disastrous start for Liscannor losing Niall Considine in the first minute, and they struggled in the first half despite playing with the conditions. KIB played really well in the first half, mopping up everything around centre field and half back, some great movement, and should have been well clear at half time having missed a couple of goal chances. Brian Considine got 2 fine points to keep Liscannor in it at half time.

KIB replaced Keith King with Johnnie Daly at HT, not sure how well it worked out as King had won a lot of ball around midfield in the first half and Liscannor almost totally dominated midfield in the second half with Paul O’Connor fading badly. Brian Considine had a stormer of a second half, but got little support from the forwards, Clohessy got 2 frees but missed a couple of important ones, Slattery missed a reasonable free as well. Still when Liscannor got their last point  (Dara Blake I think from play )  there was only 2 points in it, Liscannor were dominant and everything was there to play for. Once KIB got the ball up the field at this stage, it never came back down, and KIB finished with the last 4 points, one a beauty from Noel Downes. Overall KIB were probably 6 points the better side but it was a tough scoreline on Liscannor given where they were with 4 minutes to go. Liscannor never threatened a goal, which they probably needed to win it.

As blueprint said KIB’s bench was a big bonus, having the likes of Johnny Daly, Evan Talty  (got injured shortly after coming on ) , Vincent Talty and Mark McCarthy to bring on was a great boost. Both corner backs had great games, Declan Callinan is a great bit of stuff, the O’Dwyers played OK, Peter faded in the second half, Odran got 5 points, one a beauty from about 50 metres, I thought Michael Hogan put in a great shift, particularly covering back, was a bit surprised that he was taken off when he was but maybe he was after losing a few balls. Noel Downes was reasonably quiet, the conditions definitely didn’t suit him, but he still got 3 points from play, one a beaut. Brian Considine was the standout player for Liscannor.

Credit to both teams for a really clean sporting game particularly in the awful conditions, not a blow struck in anger  (not that I saw anyway ) . Hickey kept good control of it, too much maybe at times, but neither team could fault him overall.

A fair record for Shane Hickey, the KIB captain, at 21 he has won 2 senior championships  (one as captain ) , 1 Munster club, 5 U21’s, 3 Minors, 2 U16, 1 U14, 1 Feile, & 1 U12.

Hard to know how they will do in Munster, a bit light for the winter conditions, but plenty of football, will be important that they keep the head this time, meeting the Waterford champions  (not sure if WD final has been played yet )  in Quilty in 3 weeks so should have a bit of a chance.
