How long are they giving him to win the AI?
This will be the same as the previous few efforts out of Galway. Two years and no AI means its time to get someone new in immediatelty.
I asked this question when gerlock goot his papers and never got an answer.
Has anyone since Cyril Farrell been in that job more than two years?
And how many AIs have Galway won since Cyril finished?

Continuity people. You never know, it might work. Giving all and sundry two years and a sh1tload of acrimony plainly does not.

if its true that JMc has got the nod then its a good appointment. i suppose lots of lads had money on bond and lost out.
lets see how things shape up in the league and i will watch out for players that might return to the fold.

congrats and best of luck to him i`m delighted he`s got his chance, he`s knowledgable and won`t suffer fools and wont be afraid to finally jettison a few lads who are past their sell by date. credit to John Fahey as im sure Ryan was pulling against his inclusion. a brave and positive step.

p.s. brewery horse, Conor Hayes was there for four years, three of them being mediocre but he survived on this assumption that continuity was galways problem, it wasn`t he just wasn`t up to the task so do a bit of research before your next rant

Why is everyone raving about McIntyre? As I said yesterday he proved to be a very mediocre manager with Offaly who couldn`t wait to get rid of him but everyone here thinks he is the new messiah given the most recent one didn`t exactly work out as planned!

McIntyre`s championship record with Offaly  (Jun.2005 to Jul.2007 )

Played: 15

Won: 6  (Dublin, Antrim, Laois, Dublin, Laois, Dublin )

Lost: 9  (Kilkenny, Waterford, Clare, Wexford, Limerick, Clare, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Cork )

I don`t think anyone thinks he`s a messiah but I`m not sure if you can go much by his record with Offaly as they were in a pretty bad state when he arrived there and he was forced to introduce a heap of young players onto the team. I`m not sure anyone else would have done any better.

What we can say is that he knows Galway hurling inside out and he has a very good coach on board with him in Hardiman. Of course it could all go t* up. That`s the risk with every appointment.

It was a genuine question as to whether anyone since Cyril had been in charge for more than 2 years. Fair enough if Hayes was there for 4 years but previous to that ye had Noel Lane getting ye to the AI final for the first time in 8 years in his first year and then being jettisoned after 2002 for not repeating or bettering the feat. Continuity might have been preferable there than the first couple of `mediocre` years under Hayes.
Hayes won a league and got ye to the AI final after the mad semi in 05. Wasn`t all bad.
I just think Galway must be patient if they`re to get to the top. Rome wasn`t built in a day. McIntyre must be given time.

Hopefully he might shake it up and get rid of the lads that are just not up to it and bring in the players who have been playing very consistently over hte last number of years.

The board were all set to give Mattie Murphy the job again in 2004  (after Hayes` two year term was up )  and only for a handful of club delegates spoke out against the constant chopping and changing, Hayes wouldn`t have been in charge in `05....as i recall it  (though i am open to correction )  Murphy was the board`s choice but when floated it was rejected by the club delegates.

who are you thinking of that should come in/ get a chance? and who should go?

any time I see portumna niall hayes does an amount of work for them, doesn`t score much but does a lot of the moving of the ball through the forwards that galway seem to need sometimes - what are his prospects? could he play a role like that at county level, he has done well inter-club

He should get rid of forde and regan and take it from there, i hope they get the players playing like a team and not like a bunch of individuals that have met for the first time, hopefully we can take it from there, I`m not expecting an AI anytime soon but i`m expecting us to at least put it up to the KK and Tipp next year. With Hardiman as a select or he can get Sean Glynn onto the team he looked a handy enough hurler on the u21team last year

best of luck to McIntyre.

i note he has coached two Galway clubs to co titles and managed a few others. with this experience and covering matches for the tribune, he must know the club scene inside out. in addition he seems to have surrounded himself with a good backroom team.

his experience with the offaly seniors should also stand to him. offaly improved under joe dooley this year. i would say mcintrye has some good work done with them previous years which assisted Joe. Offaly folk would be better placed to comment

mattie withdrew himself from the race discreetly for personal reasons that year as far as i know, but its true some yahoos played the continuity card in getting hayes in

Yeah i don`t think Brian Cody will be losing too much sleep worrying about McIntyre being in charge of any team opposing KK!
