Clash the Ash (249 Posts)	I see that Eddie Hobbs has resiegned from the consumer watchdog due to Celia Larkins refusal to resign after revelations of suspect circumstances and breach in procedure in relation to a loan she recieved from Irish nationwide......... Another perfect example of how "independant" bodies, charged with looking out for joe public, are loaded with political appointments. Unless she has some qualification (apart from being Bertie`s ex ) what was she doing on the board in the first place and why did she not resign? Independant me hole!!!!! Its like your boss appointing you to head a board that looks at his performance. Say a wrong word and kiss your career goodbye!

As Baile (935 Posts)	While I have no time for Bertie, I don`t think that he is responsible for all the cronyism - obviously the Larkin one was there because of her connections to him but cronyism was there before Bertie, and I believe it is alive and well after him. The system lends itself to it. The whole Board/committee structure around and through which the State and semi-State apparatus operates, in the name of keeping politicians at arm`s length from decisions that are meant to be non-political, is a sick joke. And no politician will object to it as, through swings and roundabouts, the system benefits them all sooner or later. Banana republic!

De brudder is going to get the "loan" back from Celia to fund his NEXT election campaign, FF`s Drumcondra Mafia are taking the hit on the Dublin SC bye-election, and grooming the electorate to take on the now-70 year old Maurice Ahern when the general election is called and The Bert has taken to full time elected and paid Mayor of Dublin position in 2012. Ah the chicanery of the Drumcondra Mafia. Managing to make The Sopranos seem like The Waltons.....

Fireplace (599 Posts)	What ye lads fail to realise is that a sizeable minority of the population do very well out of FF and Larkin is just one of these. When the question is asked, why are they voted back in, its because they only need 40% of the vote and a range of interests are very happy to see them there. Farmers & Civil Servants for instance. Not to mention Aer Lingus, ESB, Eircom workers etc. In the main these groups have done very well out of FF. This message has been edited - 07-may-2009 @ 17:48

(and its been at least A MONTH since the Nationwide revelations broke: whats the `People`s Champion` been doing since then? )

ghost of suirlee (292 Posts)	celia got that gig for services rendered to bertie. no other reason. she is a beautician for f** sake. how many make up artists would you entrust the nation to. most people who get onto these state appointed bodies are only getting them as back slappers. the most qualified rarely make the boards.

I imaigine he put his concerns to the board waited for a response and then when it didn`t come, he resigned. We will see what the fall out is over the next few days.
