Ah ya couldn`t fault Lynch for commitment! I remember in the all ireland quarter final 2 years back he took a big run at Brian Geary and bounced straight back off him and fell on his behind! He was about the only Clare player who did himself justice that day though.

From that clip it looked like he went to shoulder DOS in the chest though

Some man lynch alrght. Not too many players would have gone shoulder to shoulder with the rock like that.Hard to believe we won`t see colin line out again for clare. In fairness you would have to look long and hard to find a day lynch didn`t perform. He was carrying that team with the last few years.Same goes for the rock,he has been a great servant to cork down through the years and always drew a great shout from the crowd when he cleared his lines.Best of luck to both of them in their retirement and if we see their likes again we can count ourselves as having been blessed twice.

Agreed! One could see though that the Rock time was up, but we expected at least another year out of Lynch, given how well he had been playing last year for club and county, but back injuries are slow to heal especially when one is at the wrong side of 30. It hard to imagine Clare in the championship with out Colin Lynch. Best of luck to both.

No but I found the one where Aidan Ryan "fu*cked" John Power over the sideline and into the fence...

If I remember correctly DJ hardly moved when he hit him with the shoulder.

When people think of O Sullivan in the `03 final some people remember this piece of showmanship, others remember Martin Comerford taking him for 1-4.

That`s it - the `Rock` was a showman who was cleaned by Begley, Comerford and Canning amongst others.

For me he doesn`t belong in the same conversation as Lohan, Sheehy, Hayes, Kinahan, Enright, Hickey of the best full backs in the last 30 years.

Even someone like Brian Cody who I left off the list - you could argue never got caught for as many scores by his man as the Rock was on several occasions. And Joe Canning apart - we`re not talking about legends/future legends of the game that he was up against here.

What you dont seem to get was that the rock brought more than just marking his man. His drive and energy could lift the team. Mick Mccarthy was poor enough player but he did bring a lift to the irish teams in another way

Which of them played the better match?

The Rock wasn`t exactly rolling that day. In fact I was in the Cork terrace and the opinion was that his time was up. Better refereeing would have given Clare the cruicial penalty when Sully held Gilly.

Lynch to be fair played a great game that day, though the legs went in the second half. we couldn`t afford to take him off.

Both are great players and shouldn`t be knocked for their efforts.

Cork always had the upper hand on that Clare side, Clare had 2 chances in 2005 and 2008 to take that Cork team and bottled it, sign of a weaker county, look at the way Tipperary deal with those situations like last year and this year, no mistakes, Clare were turned into small boys as typified by Lynch being driven into the ground and the Rock running out over him and trampling him

It was the immovable object against the unstopable force and neither came out of the challenge unscathed
