Respect for himself? You have seen this right?

We`re clutching at straws if thats the case - he just can`t keep himself fit.
That young gignac, the French lad, he`s going for £11m. He was in the shortlist behind Gourcuff for French player of the year last season. Either of them would be decent signings.
And get Real to throw in Sneijder as well.

Loyalty in football is only seen now in a select  few. Seen his brochure last week in the paper. Signs of a desperate man. If United did offer him a contract he`d be on the first plane to Manchester

Probably a fair reflection of where they are now, vying with Hull City for young Michael Owen and struggling to sign some lad from Wigan

It took united a couple of years to offload another sicknote, Louis Saha to Everton. How Saha managed to pass that fitness test I will never know

Hard to see Owen having an injury free run at this stage of his career.

"Michael Owen has been linked with a host of clubs since it became apparent that he was not going to renew his contract with Newcastle united which expired this week, but no reported were dedicated to suggestions that Manchester United were among potential bidders.

Punters in the United Kingdom, though, have begun backing the former England striker for an unlikely move to Old Trafford. Leading bookmakers have therefore reduced the odds on an incredible switch occurring.

Sky Bet, for instance, have slashed the odds on the switch from 20-1 to 7-4, after United missed out on the high profile signing of Karim Benzema from Olympique Lyonnais, with big-spending Spanish giants Real Madrid trumping the Red Devils with an audacious and lucrative bid.

Few would ever have suggested that Alex Ferguson would turn to the former Liverpool striker though, more famous these days for his injuries than his goals, but desperate times breed desperate measures, with Cristiano Ronaldo already gone and the imminent departure of Carlos Tevez set to weaken the Old Trafford forward line further.

"With Real Madrid hoovering up several high profile targets, United are running out of options to fill the void left by the departure of Ronaldo and Tevez and Owen is a cheap option," Sky Bet`s Mike Triffitt told bettingzone.co.uk.

"We`ve had a steady stream of bets on free agent Owen joining United today. A move to United should suit Owen, who wants to get back into the England squad and will feel he has a better chance with a higher profile club."

It had been reported that Owen`s boyhood club Everton were now favourites to land the player, with Hull City, Stoke City and Aston Villa also apparently interested."

I`ve had a few pints and i`ve had time to think this through a bit.
I`m going to go back on what I said earlier - "clutching at straws" - and say that this could be a very good bit of business for United.
I was in the pub Friday evening with a friend of mine Noddy - Noddy is from Dublin and I don`t know anyone who is as dedicated to following United as Noddy is - he has a season ticket as well and last season he went to every home game including the Carling Cup matches - travelled up from London for every game and stays in the Trafford.
Everyone is going on about the loss of Tevez and Ronaldo - Noddy`s point was "what is all the fuss about?" Tevez didn`t play many matches and everything else was a sideshow after Ronaldo came back. Now they`re gone.
Rooney will be up front where he belongs and "that lazy cvnt" Berbatov will be alongside him with none of the Ronnie fiasco going on.
Michael Owen is a proven goalscorer at this level, a clinical finisher. We wont expect him to win the title for us but he has the quality to chip in with important goals. forget what happened at Newcastle, that club had serious isues off the pitch for a long time and he was seen by the fans as the next Shearer to haul them to safety etc.
We signed Larsson when he was 35 - Sheringham when he was 30. Owen is someone Ferguson has admired for years and with good reason.
Yeah, we could have signed Benzmea - but he wants first team football. Could we guarantee him a first team shirt week in week out with Rooney and Berbatov?
This could be a great bit of business. As I said, he is proven and this is the sort of stage he needs.
I reckon now, going back on what i said earlier, that United should sign him.

Ive seen him in action, he does not need to be told where the goal is. He will have to adapt his game a bit, he has lost a yard of pace. In a top side he will guarantee goals, cant see him kick up a fuss if he is not starting every week either.

No way, f**========= him. He had his chance with Benitez - twice. Benitez called Owen`s bluff on a new contract when Rafa arrived at the club and Owen left for money. When he decided to come back to England then, he went to Newcastle, not Liverpool. Two of a kind Michael Owen and Damien Duff. Money before ambition.
United won`t replace Ronaldo with washed up, greedy little crocks like Owen. He should be hanging his head in shame for even contemplating joining United when he`s a former Liverpool player but this little p****77777777 only cares about money, horses and his  (now defunct )  England career. He was never loved like Fowler was by Liverpool fans. Now we see why more than ever.
He`s a selfish little p****77777777 and I`m surprised Ferguson is considering a move for him, I really am.
I don`t think it`s good busines for United at all, and this is coming from a Liverpool fan with my impartial hat on for this post only.

Eaststand - read your posts in the past and I know you know your football - especially about UTD. However on this rare occasion I am going to have to suggest you stay away from those 5% lagers in the pub .......

Utd need to aim higher this time. Great player that Owen was he doesnt have 35-40 games and 20 goals a season in him and thats the standard your beloved reds need.

Happy to be proved wrong!

By the way I hear Ruud Van needs a new club ...... could Fergie kiss and make up for a couple of seasons?????

Leave Van N where he is - he threw more hissy fits on the pitch than Ronaldo did. Scored goals all right but a bad influence.
Thing is with Owen - we`re not spending any money on him as such, just wages. If it doesn`t work out, it doesn`t work out and it wont break us - if we went in for that Aguero that plays for Athletico Madrid and spent up to £40m and that didn`t work out  (i.e. another Forlan ) , we`d look a right bunch of cvnts. With Owen, it`s a no lose situation. He has to pass his medical first of course, but it`s not as if we`re going out ion a limb to sign him. Thats a point a lot of people are forgetting.
There may be one or two more signings yet - and like Owen, they may come as a surprise. Such as Essien.

ala Sheringham @ 30 he could do a job alright

20-30 games and 10 goals would be ok. He would get more chances in one game with utd than 6 with newcastle.

If there are others on the way  (incl aguero/ )  then for nothing hes worth a shot

United have really slipped up big time with regards to Real Madrid.

When they had Ronaldo, united held all the cards, they could/should of insisted that part of the deal to sell Ronaldo to madrid , was that madrid would not bid for likes of Benzema , whom united were clearly expecting to capture.
I think it has shown a big naivety on united`s behalf, Madrid would have agreed anything to sign Ronaldo, United did not take advantage.

So they are now left, with been linked to desparation buys like Michael Owen. Even though I would still have my doubts that this rumour is true, it could still be just Owen`s people trying to raise interest in the player, because no one else seems interested in him.

Once a player has spent anytime at Newcastle United, their career is over, anyone who goes there in the first place, has just given up on the game, and have no ambition left.

United had 2 huge problems last season.
1. Tevez wasnt happy on the bench for some games and went to the papers with it
2. Ronaldo turned the club into a sideshow and became a prima donna.

Now they are gone.

Real Madrid are a clvb run by a bunch of cvnts and supported by a bunch of cvnts. They tried what they are trying now before and failed spectacularly. Key players like Claude Makalele who were the engine of the team got sick of the likes of Figo and the two tier society at the club. That is bound to happen again - they have gone and signed individually brilliant players but they have nobody in the engine room, like Gattuso or Keane or Makalele when played for them. Look at all the Dutch lads they signed last year - 6 of them - what are they thinking now? Real Madrid are bound to fail in what they are doing.

As for Benzema. Well if we signed him he`d want a first team place and the only way Ferguson would accodate him would mean putting Rooney out on the left again in games - not going to happen.
As for Ageuro - if he was £10m, then maybe. But nothing more.

The jury is still out on Berbatov - but with the Ronnie sideshow gone, he now has a chance to prove himself at the club. So he`ll be leading the line with Rooney this season. whats the point in bringing in someone like Benzema for £30m just to warm the bench?

Sky Sports News understands that Michael Owen underwent an initial examination on his knee on Thursday and will undergo a full medical later today before completing his surprise free transfer switch to Manchester United.

They`re hoping Diarra will be the Makelele ES and I believe he has every chance of being as accomplished in the role.

Anyone who calls Real madrid fans a bunch of cvunts is only jealous. At least Real don`t die wondering, I have to confess to being a big fan. They give their fans what they want, not too many other clubs can say that apart probably from Barcelona.
