Real Madrid stars test their hurling skills at unique adidas event
Real Madrid departed Ireland earlier this week following their friendly with Shamrock Rovers, but the Madrid players took some time out of their schedule to take part in a special adidas - Lifestyle Sports training session
adidas, in conjunction with Lifestyle Sports, organised a unique training session for fifteen prize-winners and the entire Real Madrid squad at the Carton House Hotel on Sunday, 19th July.
The session saw the full Real Madrid squad, who were in Ireland to play an historic pre-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers the following day, split into three groups to run through a number of passing, running and dribbling drills with the young prize-winners, all coordinated by Drogheda United manager Alan Matthews.
Football wasn’t the only sport on display however, as several Madrid stars including the world’s most expensive footballer Ronaldo and club captain Raul, tried their luck at hurling, as adidas who sponsor a number of GAA players, used the exclusive occasion to demonstrate their multi-sport focus.
The adidas clinic drew to a close with a group photo and an autograph session on behalf of the players.

We had it up here before a few times. From memory, I think it`s a junior hurling match in Wicklow. I think the guy is playing for Kiltegan.

It`s good to see a few open minded sportsmen pictured above, willing to try something new, unlike some of the backward yahoos who occupy this forum who wouldn`t be seen dead playing soccer and have nothing good to say about those who do. Their silence on this thread is predictably deafening. They know who they are.

Sending a Hurley to Sunderland didn`t turn the area into a hotbed of hurling, despite the added bonus of being called The King and playing for The Black Cats.

Soccer players are damned if they do and damned if they don`t by people like Dubliner2. If they don`t do their bit for the community, he criticises them. If they do their bit for the community, he refuses to acknowledge it or tacitly implies they`re doing it for financial gain, or because they have to. Maybe that`s the case, but at least they`re they`re getting into the spirit of things, having the crack and making some lucky kids very happy. It`s all about winning those hearts and minds, after all, but anyway, they can`t win. But Dubliner2`s post intrigues me because I was unaware that GAA teams had such a sniffy attitude to sponsorship and was also unaware that GAA players always refuse to participate in photo-ops or community workshops that are sponsored by sportswear companies or anyone else. Clearly I was mistaken.

And "Addidas", but nit-picking about spelling is a bit unfair. Some people aren`t as bright as others and I wouldn`t imagine somebody as bigotted as Dubliner2 is doing a job where being good at spelling is important.

Fair enough, but I think it`s generally recognised that somebody is struggling badly in an online "debate" when they resort to correcting spellings. It`s even more pathetic than dragging out the old "pots and kettles" saw or comparing somebody to a nazi. Does he do that too?

No, I`m not. I did it once because you`re a clown
And what, pray tell, does the above picture have to do with soccer players doing their bit for the community? FFS that`s no argument. They`re doing nothing for the community. I`m not implying they are doing it for the money. I`m SAYING they are doing it for the money.
And as for winning hearts and minds well, those Real Madrid shirts won`t sell themselves and the money has to come from somewhere to pay Ronaldo et al their obscene salaries.
And shock horror SOS I`m a teacher and I tipe fastt and I didn`te checck my spelings. Sorry Sir, I won do it agin.

Personally I find enough sport under the umbrella of the GAA to keep me interested. That said I would watch a wide variety of sport except association football for which I have no interest. Trading international plc`s and their overpriced `product` do not do it for me. Tales all sorts I suppose.

So they`re doing it for the money. Of course. But at least they`re doing it. Having a go. Making a select ion of kids unbelievably happy. They could just as easily have not bothered taking up the hurls and sliotars, just done the football drills they were contractually obliged to do ... but no, they were intrigued and had a go.
Questions for Dubliner 2. Who sponsers your club? Who sponsors your county? Do your players ever go and participate in community workshops or whatever that are sponsored by big corporations? Is there anything a soccer player can do that would make you acknowledge their efforts to "mol an oige". You slag them off when they don`t and you slag them off when they do. How can they win? Clowns like you do more damage to the GAA than good. You`re a disgrace. The fact that you`re a teacher is disturbing, unless you`re jokinjg, which I presume you are.
