This looks terrible for Fine Gael lads. But i`m delighted anyway. They`re all a bunch a cowboys. And i`d rather the Fine Fáil cowboys.

It is not good for Enda, there seems to be rumblings of a push against him, this might speed that up.
I assume George will be heading back to RTE now.

It seems he was none too happy with the bit part he was playing. This puts serious pressure on Inda following his woeful display on the Late Late Show etc.
To be honest if it forces Inda out it could be a blessing in disguise for FG if Bruton takes over from him.

Well this has just made my day! How the mighty have fallen.... So what happened George? Did Fine Gael finally realise that your a spoofer! For the first time since Brian Cowen became Taoiseach id say he has a smile on his face at last This will have serious ramifications for Fine Gael.

RTE should tell GL to f off.
Lee, for some reason, thought he was going to be parachuted to Finance spokesperson and that obivously was never going to happen.

Have we just lost a TD because of his principles & integrity or has George been naive as to what he could accomplish. Either way, bad day at the office for FG.

Aw , but its a public sector job, it`s Georges for life, and nobody in RTE or anywhere else can sack him.

Doesn`t look good. What with Charlie Bird not being able to `cope` with life in the US, RTE correspondents seem to have difficulty outside the comfort of Montrose. Will Mark Little be the next one to try and come back?

Where is Mark Little gone?
There was article on one of the papers at the weekend, about Charlie Bird and RTE in general, and how their employees are very typical public service workers, and lack a work ethic that would see them shine in the real world, this latest story , seems to back up that.

Fair play to him. His motivation to get elected was to try to fix the economy. Enda Kenny rides the wave of GL`s notoriety and GL gets elected. Then EK puts him on the back bench and no influence on policy. GL feels disenfranchised with what`s going on and resigns. My take is that he is full of integrity and fair play to him.
Whether it`s egotistcial/naieve/throwback to doing your time in party politics ... it`s a knock back for EK/FG and possibly the Irish Economy.
Could this be the catalyst for Richard Bruton as party leader of FG?

Like Charlie Bird, goes to show how useless these `RTE stars` are and how they can`t adopt or function in the real world outside of the confines of Montrose.
Lee has been very unimpressive and lacklustre since elected and put in a few very poor media appearances. How much input did he expect to have as a newly elected backbencher on the opposition benches? Richard Bruton and his junior Kieran O`Donnell are probably the two most impressive members in the House on economic matters.
Its big trouble for Kenny though.

He has taken a leave of absence to set up a news website.
It would be somewhat ironic if Kenny fell on his sword over shunning Lee, given that it would seem that there was some resentment in the party about Lees rise and making him bide his time before promotion may have been the popular view. I suppose that`s the drawback of a `Chairman` style of leadership. Better to be a tyrant!
Lee sounded very genuine in his interviews. Maybe he thought the Government would have fallen at this stage, and he would have a business oriented Ministry by now.

George may travel to America to accompany lonely Charlie as they are best buddies from what I heard on a recent Miriam O`Callaghan radio show.

i agree. fair play to him for walking if he feels that his party members of the back and front benches are happy to sit in the dail ranting a raving at fianna fail deputies all day long. you only ever hear the clowns moaning goverment policy without any idea`s of there own.
this country needs a new political party, a party not held back by history and of clicks of also rans protecting every gobs**e in the land.
if george has any bottle he should now canvass long and hard to find people, and qualified people who can run a country without fear of upsetting builders and bankers. people who understand the term serve the people of the country. i know i would vote for such an alternative. here`s hoping!

yeah without the fear of upsetting builders and bankers and people who understand the term "serve the people". Rules out the public service aswell. Couldnt see that party/ grouping being very popular!

Yes.
Is it FG who pick the timing of the Bye Election, or is it the Government.

Government.......
Looks like it could be a seat for Labour, unless FG can pull another rabbit out of their hat. Mairead McGuinness perhaps....???

1. Has this been confirmed or is it just reports?
2. Is he resigning as a TD or just from the FG party? If it`s the latter, then no by-election required.
3. I`d like to hear the real reasons why he`s going. Maybe we`ll never hear them.
