Am I right in saying that this will be the first competitive hurling game under lights? Should bring a nice crowd this?
Does anybody know will it be on TV?

Tipp struggled over the Cork 2nd team last year under lights in the league as well.
TV wise - Setanta have exclusive rights to it.

Tipp play Dublin next sat at 7 30 in Castleknock in a challenge. They also play them on the 28th in the league at Parnell Park. The Kilkenny game is on the 20th in Thurles in front of possibly 20 thousand. They hammered us in the league, beat us after extra time in the league final and with the help of the referee robbed us in the All Ireland final. It would be great if we beat them 3 times this year

Will you ever cop on to yourself, you whinger.Jayus.
The reason ye got bet in the AI final was a combination of Benny Dunnes tramp acting, not taking your chances when they arose and the fact that Tipp were not good enough.
If the penalty is what you are referring to as being "robbed" then may I remind you that the winning margin was 5 points (2 points more than than what the penalty was worth )
Don`t forget we will have Hickey and Cha back this year as well and as you are probably aware both of those lads are under 30 and I`d say have more All stars than the whole Tipp team combined.
Take your batin, accept that the cats are a superior outfit and don`t be so ungracious in defeat.

He said that Kilkenny hammered Tipp in the League, and won in extra time in the League Final. I wouldn`t call that being ungracious. And he said the Penalty Decision HELPED Kilkenny rob Tipp in the final which it did, as Tipperary were the better team for most of the match, and the penalty was the catalyst in Kilkenny going on to win. Instead of it being a free out and an attack for Tipp (who were on the front foot leading 0-21 to 0-19 ) it was a Goal for Kilkenny against the run of play. I see nothing ungracious about what michealohehir posted.

The penalty issue isnt as simplistic as you make out. The goal is only worth 3 points but the significance of it was much more important than 3 points. It was the turning point from which Kilkenny were able to kick on and win the match. Up to that point the match could have gone either way.

Good God ye are very sensitive when ye are told the truth__-must be a guilt complex. It was not just the penalty__also the frontal charge on Seamus Callinan__ the faceguard pulling by Richie Power on Padraig Maher __the at least two incidents of helmet interference on John OBrien and Benny Dunne by Tommy Walsh__the blatant push on Paul Curran before the second goal and the 65 we should have got. Hopefully the so called law of swings and roundabouts will work this year.

Ah poor auld Seamus Callinan.I thought it was poetic justice after dislocating Hogans shoulder in the league final. Its very easy to drive into a lad when he is wide open when reaching for a loose ball. There`s an example of swings and roundabouts, for ya.He gives one and gets one back. Its senior hurling those lads are playing, not volleyball.
Interfering with face guards? You must be joking me??
All Tommy and Ritchie were doing was trying to straighten them up for your boys.
At least the Kilkenny lads didn`t try and drive the bars out through any of your players faces, did they?
As regards the 65...So what? If they got it and scored, along with the penalty that makes 4 points.
We won by 5 and I have no guilt complex but I`m starting to come to the conclusion that you have a persecution one!
P.s...This auld s**e about turning points and so forth is a load of cobblers.Tipp couldn`t close the game because they were not able to...FACT.

Mmm..as a Tipp man I tend to be of the opinion that we left it behind us and have ourselves to blame, but interestingly enough from your post while you had a swipe at each point on Michaels post, you didn`t actually disagree that:
*Callinan wasn`t fouled
*65 wasn`t given
*Face guards weren`t interfered with
*Penalty was soft.
A lot of KK fans will agree with above, just as most Tipp fans will agree that we should have closed game out.

One or two little points youve forgotten. callinans tackle was within the rules. the injury was an accident. Tyrells tackle was a frontal charge - a free. So its not swings and roundabouts
Eddie brennan didnt `try and drive the bars out` through Luceys face a few years ago, of course, but that was only becos Lucey wasnt wearing a helmet. And Lucey hadnt gone next or near Brennan at that stage. Interesting that your first post had the phrase `tramp acting` and the name `Hickey` in it. they should have been closer together.
Some of ye have short memories, esp when spinning this `whinging` s**e. What would have been said if Liam Sheedy had said `Cork (Offaly? ) bet us, not kilkenny` at the homecoming? you never heard a tipp manager say someting like that and I don`t think you will.

I agree with the 4 above, but could point to as many incidents the other way round which are never mentioned, the most obvious one being a Tipp wide ball given as a 65 (PJ Ryan / Eoin Kelly challenge? ) ...it happens in matches, deal with it.
This harping on about "helmet interferance" in the benny Dunne assault is ridiculous btw, all 6 half backs and most of the full back lines were at that plenty all day, as goes on every match, only most forwards don`t do a Dunne on it and ignore the unwritten code of not pulling full force accross the head. God knows there was enough (justified ) giving out about Peader Carton doing the same.

formosa, agree with you. Ive said it here before, KK won the match and the refs decisions had nothing to do with them so good luck to them. Tipp lost mainly becos they missed two goals. Dunne is a tramp no doubt.
but how come KK lads cant accept that some of their lads can be dirtbirds? Its always different when a KK hurler is dishing it out, Its `not volleyball` then but when it hapens to them its `easy to drive into a lad when he is wide open`. Not to mention ignoring the fact that one was a foul in front of the posts and the other no free at all. Im not even going to start on Kirwans telling fibs in that interview about the Callinan tackle, its not the point here..
but we can discuss these things if we wish and its a bit rich to listen to accusations of whinging from a county whose manager said `Cork bet us, not Tipp` back in 91. can you imagine what would be said if Sheedy came out with that? But it prob wasnt whinging then, just manly hurling talk.

Jackie Tyrrell`s full frontal 1 point
65 not given 1 point
Richie`s faceguard pulling 1 point
Penalty 1 goal
Push on Paul Curran 1 goal
If correct decisions had been given by referee on those it could have counted for 9 points.
While Benny gave a dirty blow in the match that deserved a red he has given great service to Tipp and Toom and does not deserve to be called names by someone called stringies

You see stringies the thing is if you want reasoned sensible hurling chat, you don`t look for it here, you head off to a few club matches - not even inter county as that attracts a lot of clueless band-wagonners.
This place is an outlet for all types of morons...no hurling man will try to say Callinans shoulder on Hogan in the league final was dirty...it was a great shoulder and a sweet connection.
FFS we even have a simpleton starting up a thread on the appointment of the ref from the U21 `08 munster final...that`s what you`re dealing with around here.
So basically come here for some silly slagging and a bit of craic, but don`t get too worked up about it.
Finally I have no idea what the `91 reference is about, presumably something Ollie Walsh said after?

Anyway, the match. What is the likelihood of getting two strongish teams lined out for this one?
Even if Ballyhale lose next Sunday, is it likely any of them will feature in this match? , And I read something from Liam Sheedy a few weeks ago about him given runs out in the league to his new squad players and players from last years squad who did not feature a lot.
Its always hard to predict how teams will approach League matches, but these two normally take the league serious, last years Nowlan park game seems to have been a freak, as Tipp had won the previous two league meetings between the two and the league Final was a very close affair.
Hope the league gets off to a cracker this year, as I think the format is very good, having all the top teams in one group, it was just unlucky that the last round last year was a dead duck.

KK have had some fairly experimental teams in the Walsh Cup, moreso than usual. That would point towards abit of a shake-up in personnel, so I wouldn`t be surprised if there are some unfamiliar names on the program. But it`s still Tipp, it`s a big game with the lights etc, and given the outcomes in the three matches last year, both teams will regard this match as psychologically important if not necessarily vital. I`d say there`ll be more of last year, plenty of leather in it. There`s alway a lot at stake, but it`s more important than any other league match this year for these guys.

Well maybe I`ll change my name and call him a tramp then, would that improve matters? His service has got nothing to do with it. Hickey has given wonderful service to KK and i regard him as a tramp too. the colour jersey should have nothing to do with it.
Maybe youre right, formosa, and this is just a place for s**e talk. we can but try. And yes, the quote was Ollies at the homecoming. Im not worked up about that btw, couldn`t care less what he said. I knew Ollie in his later years and he was as sound as could be. Just that its gas to hear lads from kk reverting to `whinging` accusations whenever aspects of matches that they dont want to hear about are discussed.

There`s no aspect of the AI final last year I don`t want discussed.

I`m neither whinging or sneering.
I just find the Tipp lads great craic and love getting a rise out of them,is all.
By God don`t they HATE getting bet by us?
I`d actually be more concerned about Cork because we are so far ahead of Tipp in the role of honour, that they are nearly an irrelevance at this stage
