Apologies if this has been discussed before, but why the hell is one of the best shows on TV shown at 11:50 on a Monday night on rte 1?

And they have rubbish like Katherine lynch and that quiz with the fella from après match on in prime time.

FFS like.

In fairness if they put it in a primetime slot it costs way more for them to buy. The homegrown crap won`t cost as much What`s the big deal? You can download the complete 3rd season of this anyway or just record/sky+ it each week and watch it in your own time.

RTE boast about acquiring these shows all the time when in all reality is as much of an acquisition as ordering a takeaway from a chipper. Since license fees are used to buy these programs and the subsequent boasting/advertising we are right to highlight they are not making best use of their resources.

I only used to watch it in occasionally, and that was during Season Three. I’d be channel hopping and would come across it - it stood out among the dross that fills much of television these days.

I have the box sets of seasons one, two and three. I’ve just reached the start of season three – anybody who wants some top class television, with great writing and acting, could do worse than invest in the set.

As someone said before, it’s shown later due to the fact that it’s less expensive for the TV stations to show it in that slot.

I heard recently that it’s proving to be such a success that the series may continue into the seventies – would be interesting to say the least.

Anybody who is a fan of the sixties will love this series…

I have the blu-ray boxset of the first 3 seasons. Have been meaning to watch them for months. Just can`t find the time. Must make an effort now when the winter months and dark evenings arrive.

Been watching Season 4. It`s top class. Continues nicely where Season 3 leaves off. Also Season 5 of Dexter starting later this month. Looking forward to seeing it!

It`s a really excellent show, I`ve been hooked since I started watching the first series on BBC on Sunday nights. Does anyone know if the Beeb are going to show the first few series straight through?

I put Season One on hold after about 4 or 5 episodes, and haven`t returned to it, although I probably will eventually.
I thought far too much attention was given to the look of the time, and prevailing social attitudes, that it felt almost like part civics/part sociology class.
We know it was set in the early 60`s, under JFK, and that American society was gradually breaking free of the yoke of Eisenhower`s strait-laced 50`s, but theres no need to hammer us over the head with it, every episode.

And do they always have to mention so and so`s big ad campaigns.

Looking forward to watching my just-received `Breaking Bad` box-set. whatever it will turn out like, for sure its not going to be a civics class!

You can`t judge any show on the first few episodes.

I thought youd know better after also writing off The Wire after the first 2 or 3 episodes

You remembered? : )
But 4 or 5 is two more than 2 or 3! : )

And I`m not completely sold on `The Wire`, either, Jack
I`ve still only watched two series.

Have you seen `Breaking Bad`?

centreforward I think your hopping a ball there Re:RTE and TV license fees did you not hear about the article in the sunday world last w/e where some reporter fellow got into the canteen facility at Montrose and was only gobsmacked at the 5* menu available. Sounded like caviar on toast stuff  (or maybe Prawn Sandwiches for Pat Kenny )  but here the sting for you and me this 5* dinner menu apparantly cost the princly sum of €6 now thats value. A nice bit of subsidising there.
Only consolation for us Im afraid is at least we know what our hard earned euros are been used for in the RTE setup unlike the monster AIB with its insatible appetite unfortunately we will never know who is getting the fat through the payoff to this establishment.

Mad men best show ever not to be missed
