Seeing as the leagues are up and running the appetite for championship action has been whetted  (its only just over 2 months to the start of the championship )  it may be still a little early I am just wondering are you looking forward to the football or hurling championship more this year and what are your predictions for the upcoming year?.

Personally I`m really looking forward to the football championship as I dont have a clue who will win the championship. There are 10 or so teams that it would not be surprising if they managed to get to the all-ireland final and i dont think there is one outstanding candidate for this years all-ireland.

I think the hurling will go pretty much as expected with Kilkenny and Tipp winning the provincial championships and meeting in the final.I think that Galway will be fairly strong but still will flop when it gets to the crunch.

Predictions
Football
Leinster: Dublin  (again )
Munster: Limerick  (could ambush cork or kerry due to greater hunger )
Connacht:Mayo
Ulster: Armagh
All-ireland: Cork  (although it could be anyone )
Player of the year:Daniel Goulding or Colm O`Neill
Player to watch: Kevin McMenamon  (Dublin )

Hurling:
Leinster:Kilkenny
Munster:Tipp
All-ireland: Kilkenny
Player of the Year:Padraic Maher or Tommy Walsh
Player to watch: Michael Cussen

It will be interesting to compare our early predictions with what actually happens later in the year.

the hurling is really up for grabs, i`d expect Galway in McIntyres second year to make a real surge this year, i think kilkenny can be caught, Tipp, Waterford, Cork and Galway on their day can beat any team.

Kilkenny will win the hurling, and do the 5-in-a-row
I still think there is gap between them and Tipp, and a huge gap between them and everybody else.

Football I`m not too sure, as Kerry have been hit by retirement, lads going to Oz and have miles on the clock I don`t think they will retain it.
I`ll go for Tyrone to reclaim it

Just came back from the moon and I opened this thread. Have Kerry pulled out of this years football championship?

Just came back from the moon....have Kerry pulled out....

Yerra this year won`t be great but the few injured lads that are left will do their best. The Cork team are big , bould and sporting in the Thady Quille tradition and they will put it up to a lot of teams this year.

Look it, Yerra, they would have to be favourites as they have been knocking on the door for a while now and they always are a very hard team to beat and this year will be no different and , in fairness, there is always only be a kick of the ball between them.

But,Yerra, the sporting rivalry always brings out the best with ne`er a foul or low blow struck or a nasty word exchanged in the white heat of Championship battle between such close neighbours.

Hurling:
Leinster:Kilkenny  (Can`t see who will beat them )

Munster:Waterford  (Waterford are far from finished and I just feel a handy draw coupled with Tipp having one eye on KK, Waterford might surprise them a la 08 )

All-ireland: Tipperary  (If they don`t do it now, you have to ask yourself when will they, KK are still absolutely brilliant but are still slightgly declining )

Im putting it out there now, I am predicting KK to exit at the semi final stage. Just feel that a hungry Cork or Tipp might do it to them. I say this every year and KK still win so it is probably just wishful thinking.

Player of the Year:Impossible to tell

Predictions
Football
Leinster: Dublin  (again  )
Munster: Cork
Connacht:Mayo
Ulster: Tyrone
All-ireland: Cork

you`re a waterford man are`nt you?

ye definitely have a deeper panel than anyone else in munster with real options off the bench unlike everyone else with gambles off the bench and limerick with the bench on the field and the team in the pub

The handy draw comment annoyed you I see. Well you can see where I am coming from atleast, after Limerick, Clare are the team that everyone would want. That`s not to say Clare won`t do something this year and indeed if I was from Clare I would be happy enough with Waterford. After saying that, Waterford simply do have a lot more quality than Clare and should win but Clare are a bogey team for us.

Eight posters have given their tips for the Munster Football Championship. Cork got 6 votes and Limerick 2. All 8 voted for Cork to win the All Ireland. Not a single vote for Kerry. As the late Eamon Coleman used to say to the journalists when he was Manager of Derry "Do youse boys know anything about Football". Cork are a fine team and they are playing well, but they are not that good. Paddy Power has Cork at 5/2, with Kerry and Tyrone both at 3/1. That is more like it, but if the posters to this thread are that confident about Cork, they will be able to make some really handy money.

Nationwide Limerick are very good and are unfortunate that they are in a provence which probably has the two best teams in it. They simply just arent good enough to beat them though as good as it would be.
