Big game for the Dubs against a side we`ve always had major trouble with. Tipp game means nothing without a win here. If Dublin can produce the same display then the points are in the bag and in many ways the have to. With Cork and KK coming to Parnell we can`t bank on anything there despite home advantage. I`m hoping the Waterford game was the abberation and not the Tipp one. Dubs by three!

Offaly have 2 chances to avoid relegation this game and the Limerick game.Home advantage could be crucial for Offaly because even though Dublin at the moment are a better team than Offaly we always seem to put on a decent display in Tullamore.Shane Dooley and Brian Carroll are always good for a few scores but we will have to do a good marking job on Alan McCrabbe if we are to win.You would have to fancy Dublin for this one as they were very impressive against Tipp while I feel we are not a whole lot better than we have been over the last 5 years or so.Hope Offaly win but to be honest I cant see it.

Yeah Dublin by a couple of points. It`s a game Offaly really need to win though otherwise they`ll be banking on beating Limerick.

If ye can`t beat this Offaly team then Dublin have no business in division 1.

Yeah Dublin should win this because offaly are very poor. Does anyone think this is like discussing Hull versus bolton

Hull and Bolton don`t hurl, so it`s not really like discussing those two teams.

Its an important game to be honest with the loser likely to be relegated.

I hope the match being in Tullamore gives Offaly a bit of an advantage.

Thats not a bad Laois side - they beat a Kilkenny side, were level with Galway at the end of the Walsh Cup semi-final and lost by 4 to Clare. Clkearly there`s work being done and things are looking up. They could very easily have beaten Limerick last year as well.

Even if Offaly won, I`d still say they`re more likely to be relegated than Dublin - remember Dublin have two points already, and Offaly have...0. Can`t see Dublin being relegated, to be honest - much as I`d love to!

Yeah, Eaststand, said that half in jest. Laois are coming to the boil nicely enough, and have a good atmosphere in the set-up at the moment. The match against Antrim at the w`end will tell a lot. That Cahir Healy has elected to play w/ the hurlers, rather than tog-out fer the footballers in their `relegation clash` against W`meath, says a lot.

Biffo 1984,the loser is not likely to be relegated as only one team goes down and that team will surely be Limerick. If the Dubs reproduce their form from the Tipp match they should walk it.

this makes no sense. dublin will have every business in division one if they lose to Offaly and still gather enough points to maintain their division one status. their business in division one will not be decided on sunday. it was decided last april when they finished higher than mid table  in division one and will similarly be decided at the end of april 2010.

this offaly team has managed to achieve division one status , something wexford couldnt achieve and Clare maintain.

does it say more about a happy hurling camp or more about an unhappy football camp??

No offence but i hope the losers are the ones who are relegated! Means we can avoid it though things here in Limerick are f**==cced at the minute.

Dublin had a good win against Tipp, Daly is obviously doing some good work with them. Only difference between us and Offaly at the moment is the points difference at the bottom of Division 1.

If Waterford rack up a big score against us at the weekend we`re f**==cced. I can`t see the winners of the Dub-Off game winning by a big margin

Waterford won`t rack up a big score unless you let them in for a few goals like Dublin did. With Mullane and Kelly out we are pretty impotent up front as far as picking off points is concerned. Mullane definately won`t play but if Kelly does ye could be in trouble.

Are Offaly that bad that anyone who has "business being in division one" should beat them at home? ... jeesh, some people only seem to give credit to anyone who`s won the AI numerous times.

Laois are building a good side and apart from that, a challenge is a challenge, so who knows what sort of strength teams lined out.

Dublin lost to Balyhale in a challenge last weekend but it was mostly backup players and lads on the way back from injury.

In fairness i think Offaly are at an all time low certainly in my lifetime anyway. We got well beaten by Wexford and Cork in last years championship and we seem to be able to be competitive against most teams for the 40 or 45 minutes but then crumble in the last 20 .If you look at our team we have a few quality players like David Kenny,Brian Carroll,Brendan Murphy ,Shane Dooley , Derek Molloy and Joe Bergin however I doubt any of these would have gotten on the Offaly team of 1994 or 1998. The only current Offaly player that would have got on either the 94 or 98 teams is David Franks as has been one of the best corner backs in Ireland in the last 10 years.Hopefully we can beat Dublin on Sunday and that would play a hugepart in avoiding relegation and give us a boost for the rest for the year.At this moment without wanting to seem too negative I would say we are the 10th best team in Ireland if Limerick have all their players and nowhere near being competitive at the top level for years to come as we have had virtually no underage success in the last 10 years.

Didn`t have much trouble with Galway in the last couple of league games! And it is the league we are talking about!

Allianz National Hurling League Division 1 Round 3
Offaly v Dublin, 2.30pm, Tullamore

Dublin recorded a comfortable  nine-point victory over Tipperary last time out, but Offaly always provide a sticky test in O’Connor Park.
With Shane Dooley, Brian Carroll, Dylan Hayden and others now fully focussed on the county setup following their Fitzgibbon Cup action with UL, Offaly will be an eager force.

Veterans Ger Oakley and David Franks have also returned to the Offaly squad, but Dublin’s balance and eagerness should see them record a victory on their travels.
VERDICT – Dublin

Great news that David Franks is back in my opinion one of the best corner backs in ireland he had marked many top profile forwards out of games and I was assume that he will be asked tomark McCrabbe as he is Dublins most dangerous forward.

Really cant see Offaly posing enough of a threat up front to get the scores. Agree with the original post that the Tipp win will mean nothing if they cant beat Offaly. Dublin +7.
