That would involve far too much movement/energy for him.

Over-rated.

Never did anything for France  (in fact cost them a place in the 1994 WC with that crazy pass against Bulgaria )

Never did anything in Europe for his club

Strong performances against Wimbledon, Sunderland etc. don`t cut it if you want to be named among the greats.

Bouncer is spot on.He was mediocre at international and at Champions League level as those 2 are the real judge of how great a player is.If he hadnt been a great character and controversial there wouldnt have been half as much fuss made about him

Ginola gave that pass against Bulgaria.

Cantona scored 20 goals in 45 games at international level.

Certainly never showed his best in Europe for United who were not help by the foreigner rule which also included the Irish, welsh and Scotish at that stage

Carry on.

Voted Manchester United`s greatest ever player by the fans. Must have done something right.

In fairness that was a fairly s**ty french team he a part of so not exactly the greatest achievement, building the team aound him didnt seem to do them much good  (due tohis madness )  and by the time the French came good again in 96 the French had disgarded him and were proved correct in their decision

By the fans says it all, popularity doesnt mean he was a great player, no where near as good as Bobby Charlton,George Best,Roy Keane Ryan Giggs,Scholes

The French also had a new manager after a certain Mr houllier resigned.. (whatever became of him ? )

He remained captain of France up to the suspension for the attack at Selhurst Park. By then Zidane had come into the team in his place. No shame in that.

So was he not playing in those European games for Utd? If he was as great as utd fans think he would have stood out, he didn`t. International goalscoring record is a red herring with loads of games against weak nations. He was abysmal in Euro `92 when France were favourites.

He was a great man against Norwich and the like though.

A gurrier of the highest order. If some of his carry on, on the field of play happened anywhere else, he`d have got jail.

Cantona was a Cult hero was overrated as a player, Yorke and Van Nistelroy whom I don`t hear too many United fans on about in recent times were more of an asset on the pitch but seemed to have slipped out of the conscience of most fans.

Cantona cannot be dismissed as merely a cult hero. He joined a team short on confidence and short on goals in 1992 and was the catalyst to transforming them into stylish champions. Without him its questionable utd would ever have won the league under ferguson.

That for me has to be the biggest joke of them all for Man Uts fans, UTD have had players like Charlton, Law, Stiles, Schmeichel, Giggs, Keane and Edwards not to mention the greates of them all George Best but no these morons picked Cantona as their greatest ever.

Good player, but thats it, not fit to lace the boots of the players mentioned above.

I would`nt get too upset about it. These things tend to be voted upon by young kids at the time. If one was done tomorrow it might well be Wayne Rooney that comes out on top.
