What do people think of this?
Personally think its a good move for Meath. The second half collapses against Louth and Kildare showed a complete lack of any proper tactics and you could also argue about the players fitness levels. He never used the bench properly either leaving decent players like Peadar Byrne to rot there all summer. Caoimhin King at FF against Dublin last year was laughable too.
He did find Graham Reilly and got us famous wins over Mayo and Dublin so there were positives from his rein

This does seem to be an odd decision. From what I have read though, opposition had been growing towards his re-appointment at club level.
There do not seem to be any obvious replacements out there so it`s hard to see where the county board go from here. It seems rough treatment for a man who helped deliver Meath`s first leinster in 9 years.
People seem to forget that although the Meath team has a more settled look this year it is still in transition.
I can`t help but wonder if the Tipperary County Board had listened to the naysayers abuot Liam Sheedy, would we be celebrating an All-Ireland success this week.
Those who moved to oust o`Brien better hope they get it right, otherwise it could do a lot of damage to meath football.

I`m very surprised by this... I thought he would at the very least get a 1 year extension after getting a Leinster title (regardless of how they got it as that had nothing to do with the management ) . I wouldn`t know too much about the politics at club level in Meath so maybe this was always coming but it just seems really strange. They looked like they were making progress and now they`ll have to go back to square one.
Who would you like to take over Trimmer?
I wonder what RG makes of it?

Forgot to ask that. Do the Meath posters have any preference for his replacement?

I think we`ve over achieved the last few years and have been very lucky to get to 2 AI Semi`s with some players of limited ability
I also think we`re a one trick pony with the long quick high ball into imposing forwards (Joe and O`Rourke ) the only tactic that we have
As trimmer mentioned 2nd half collapses against Kildare, Louth and also against Laois this yr
The will they/won`t they offer a replay fiasco was handled very badly and players should never have been put in a position by mgmnt and the co. board to decide whether they would offer a replay
Also, 2 very good physical trainers seem to have stepped down after one yr in the job so maybe there was some conflict between them and the mgr as well
Not sure what`s going on but a change is needed somewhere, not sure if ousting O`Brien is the answer though

It appears very unlikely that the county board will opt for an outsider & there is very little within the county. Paddy Carr, who won an AI with Crokes, might see this as his chance. He has had his name in the ring more than once in recent years but will have a stronger cv this time around.

Just read that even though O`Brien had the support of the committee, the delegates voted 32-29 against.... very close.

I would like an outside to take it over but when Luke Dempsey was odds on the CB backed out of it but when you look at what Geezer has done with Kildare it does make sense. Sean Kelly has been tipped but i think he has ruled himself out a number of times.
Colm O`Rourke will no doubt be linked but i doubt he`ll risk his hero status. GG did forward coaching with Longford this year but its probably too soon for him.

maybe Liam Hayes. he talks a good game and reckons jack o`connor has failed in his 2nd coming at kerry even though he won an ireland on his comeback. Meath need a man with such high standards at the helm!!!
and he had massive success with carlow!! so he has inter county managerial experience.

Quite incredible. They rob a Leinster title then sack the manager. Who the hell would want to go near the job. Seems like unless you win the All Ireland you`re out on your ear. Interesting that except for Coyle none of Boylan`s boys have gone anywhere near it.

Has your native county survived the worm dose??
There were plenty of worms around clare when Tony Considine and Mike Mac were in charge.
ditto plenty of worms turning in limerick, waterford, offaly and cork in recent years to mention just 5 counties other than meath who have had a spot of bother dealing with team managers.
Louth folk will note your good wishes but i doubt eamon o` brien`s fate will undo a terrible mistake by match officials ( not meath officials ) .

sean boylan`s time was up but since he departed the management of the team has either not worked out or just been messy in terms of appointment\reappointment - eamon barry, colm coyle, luke dempsey and eamon o`brien

Jeez Dub I wouldn`t think it would be the worst job in the world I think a bit like in Monaghan they had gone as far as they could with the team. Meath are a young enough team and have some very good forwards so theres a decent foundation there. Of all the vacant jobs (Mayo, Galway, Limerick etc ) I would say this one is quite attractive

I dont think you believe what you`re saying here d2.There are lots of logical reasons to oust O`Brien mostly dealing with training, team select ions, tactics or lack thereof, poor physical preperation, inability to see or make changes during the game, failure to make any use of the league etc etc.
I dont think you can judge a team merely by how far they have progressed each year. You like to see signs that there is an improvement,an overall learning and a development in players as individuals and as a team. This has just not been happening.Meath`s attack and defence always look to be made up as they go along and there is no rhyme, reason or method to the football we play.We have imo the best forwards in the country and some able backs,we should be capable of showing some progress or a willingness to try and win an all ireland.
Meath is not a county that reacts too well to a manager saying it wont be a disaster if we get relegated from div.2 only two game into the league.
I somehow get the feeling that Dublin fans are insulted that we could hammer them and not be happy with our season.Well the fact of the matter is a Dublin team with a couple of forwards got within a couple of minutes of an all ireland whilst a very talented meath team could have lost to a shoddy louth outfit and then went from 6 points up to 8 points down against kildare in 60 minutes of football. That is not progress.

Would agree whole-heartedly with you intothewhest, seems to be lots of potential within the Meath ranks at the moment, and there would certainly appear to be many less attractive options out there.

A former meath player was quoted in the paper this morning as saying the job is the biggest in the GAA after Kerry and the Dubs. Who is he kidding?? They must have avery high opinion of themselves if they believe this.
