1. What club has produced the most All-Ireland winning captains, in both or either code? The same man can count more than once, too, e.g. Anthony Daly = 2 for Clarecastle. For instance off the top of my head Thurles Sars had a bunch. Some of the Cork city clubs must have a rake as well, in football and hurling?
2. Who is the most technically skilled player you can think of, whose career never really took off? We don`t want any reasons for this, no bullsh1t or abuse, just guys who maybe didn`t have the career they might have had with their skill. From Tipp I`ll pick Eddie Enright`s bro Johnny and John O`Brien`s bro Paddy: both preternaturally skilful by all accounts. Also Paul Kelly, who is/was a beautiful stylist. (I know Paddy and Paul both won AIs and Paul won All-Stars, but maybe they could/should have won more. )
Anyway come on, nominate your own county`s forgotten geniuses of the caman.

1.Laois clubs wouldn`t have much of a say in this.
2.He`d have been a bit before my time but a lot of local people say Tony Dunne was an exceptional talent. Kicked football for Laois as well as hurling, played soccer for KK city as well as playing a bit of rugby I believe. Hurling was his game though, but he never reached his true potential as a hurler which is a pity.

1. I`m sure if you look to Cork you`ll come up with that answer as they seem to have more dual clubs represented on the county teams.
2. There are manyh such hurlers in Galway! If I take your approach and mention guys that have represented the county but have underachieved then the two (of many ) that spring to mind immediately are Kevin Broderick and Eugene Cloonan. Lads I`ve seen that were technically gifted but never made the senior inter county scene for whatever reason would be: Paul Kennedy (Loughrea ) , Seamie Crowe (Castlegar ) , Keith Hayes RIP (Portumna ) .

Ballyhale Shamrocks have had the captain of 6 Kilkenny All Ireland winning teams since 1979. These were Ger Fennelly, Liam Fennelly (twice ) , Henry Shefflin, Cha Fitzpatrick & Michael Fennelly. I`m sure this total is probably surpassed by clubs from further back like Tullaroan, Thurles Sarsfields & Glen Rovers.
From Kilkenny, the first name that springs to mind is Ray Heffernan (Christy`s younger brother ) . He was an All Ireland winner at minor & U21 and was on the senior panel on and off for a number of years but never made the breakthrough for whatever reason. I would say he was the best club hurler in Kilkenny in the last 30 years. Glenmore, despite their other great players, would have won none of their 5 county titles without him. He is the best free-taker I`ve ever seen, including inter-county players. Anything from about 90 yards out would be straight over the black spot. He also regularly scored points from play from the middle of the field off both left & right with the minimum of effort.

In cork its between the glen barrs and rockies. I count 2 apiece since 70s. The barrs have won loads of counties but dont seem to have the luck notably JBM when he was captain.

As far as I know, Yes. Think he went to Wolves for a bit when he was a teen and that`s probably when he hung up the hurl. I had heard lately that he was playing a bit again at junior level for another club in Galway.

To answer part Two I would have Adrian Cahill and Roy Mannion as two suprememly skillful hurlers who`s carrers didn`t take off as they should have for different reasons

Could you add Stephen Brown to that.He looked like a great prospect when he was younger however when he got on the Offaly team he was a huge let down.I think injuries may have played a part in his career not flourishing as it should have

These two talents failed to bloom for the exact same reason. The 6 inches between their ears was one big void.

To answer No.2 with regard to Waterford I`d nominate Johnny Brenner. He was probably the best player on the u21 team that won the AI in 92 (team included Tony Browne, Fergal Hartley & Paul Flynn ) and was regarded in UCC as a massive talent. But he never made it an senior county level, lined out for a few years and then moved off the scene.
Another who I thought was a cert was the full back on the minor team in 92, Tom O`Donnell I think he was called. I heard he emigrated, by God how we could have done with him at full back after Sean Cullinane retired.

Bennetsbridge, Kilkenny, had 5 AI-winning captains from Dan Kennedy RIP to Noel Skehan. The village also has something over 40 AI hurling medals.

Ray Heffernan yes, and also captained Glenmore to Club All Ireland 1991. Unbelieveable player. They say his Minor All Ireland display was the best ever seen in Croke Park
