Mick Kavanagh and James Ryall have announced their retirement. Comes very quick after the AI and I hope they don`t regret their decision down the road. Great servants to Kilkenny hurling and they deserve the gratitude of Kilkenny fans for their commitment and contribution during a fantastic period in hurling history.

Glanbia are posting profits so they`ll have a few pound put aside I`m sure although I doubt they`d spend it on enticing those two back. Shefflin and Walsh would be worthy recipients.

What age is Ryall?

It is savage commitment to put in year after year especially when you are not seeing much game time.

If that was the case no county would have many subs if they had that way of thinking.

I wouldn`t say no to a career like that.

Ryall is 29 I think.

To be fair to be both players , they have dedicated a large part of the prime of their lives to Hurling and KK already, it is obvious that both feel that are unlikely to feature on the first team again, so it is understandable the decision they have made.

It will be interesting to see Cody`s approach to next year, will he seek to bring many personal changes about , in years gone by it was easier for him to freshen it up as KK held most of the aces at U21 level , where the next batch of players are most likely to come from , but these days KK hold no advantage in lads around this age group.

Next year will be a big year for the likes of TJ Reid and Ritchie Hogan , both are brilliant players who look like to have great hurling careers ahead of them , but to be honest both of their reputations seem to have proceeded them at this stage , neither has consistently given the type of big performance in big games for KK seniors yet , such as the likes of the Mahers and Mcgrath have for Tipp already.

This WAS NOT on KCLR. It`s a rumour started by fools for reasons best known to themselves. KCLR have already told KKcats.com to take down the same thread because they never had any such report. AFR should do the same, this is just kicking men when they`re down, and might persuade two fine servants of the game to give it up before they`re ready.

OLD did you HEAR it on KCLR, or read it on kkcats, or did you just invent it?

Did I say that? I quoted a thread on the Cats site - since removed evidently on KCLR`s request - citing KCLR as the source. I`m sure I wasn`t the only one to see it - see Legal Alien.
What the hell is wrong with you people? It`s all laid out in front of you - read it again.

Don`t have a knicker fit. You have just admitted you didn`t hear it on KCLR, even though you were specifically asked where you had heard this and said KCLR. so your source, presumably, should have been kkcats.com. Which wouldn`t have sounded as reliable, so you didn`t say it. Of course the possibility remained that you had started the thread there as well. Hence the question, did you invent it. Nothing outlandish in any of that, especially since I`m right: kkcats have been told to take it down, so there`s no need to be getting defensive about what I wrote lad.

Hilarious stuff. It`s in the examiner AND RTE today that these men have retired. Both men have denied it. Both the examiner and RTE seem to have used an anonymous internet forum as their source. Shameful excuse for journalism, and a clear example of journalists being caught red-handed doing what we all know they do anyway.

OLD, just to reiterate: nothing personal at all and sorry if I sounded like a smartar$e, looks like people in higher places than you or I are happy to make the same mistake.

Just repeated what I read, nothing sinister. Anyway, no problem - Jeez, were you around at the time of the Spanish Inquisition?
As for posting it on Cats - I`m not a member. And as to how I could have heard KCLR living in the US, I listen to it regularly. Knicker twist? No, frustration but we`ll move on.

I didn`t know you were in the US  (someone else said that ) , I mean KCLR have said they broadcast no such report. They`re still saying it, and pointing out that the national broadcaster, the Examiner, and the official GAA website  (! )  are all wrong. Kavanagh and Ryall, and Tony Browne into the mix, have also ALL denied that they are retiring. All because one poster on kkcats with a history of starting rumours put up this post. He`s since gotten banned.

As I said, hilarious stuff really.
