I meant to ask this earlier in the week but the official attendance at half time of the senior game was something like 81,765!! i`m surprised at this!! surely every seat in the house was taken! i know it only about 600 off full capacity but did anyone see empty seat around!!

Unusual for such a hight profiled all ireland final!

Becaus of the fence on Hill 16 the capacity has been reduced by about 700 as people moved back away from the fence to get a better view thus the GAA released 700 fewer tickets for safety reasons.Same will apply for the football final

The capacity of Hill 16 will again be reduced for the All-Ireland football final next week, after 700 terrace tickets were held back for the hurling decider. A crowd of 81,765 was registered for hurling`s blue riband day, slightly down on what it would normally draw.

GAA officials took the decision to hold the 700 terrace tickets because of the presence of the barrier at the Hill end. Croke Park stadium director Peter McKenna said the move would be reviewed, but the capacity would more than likely remain at what it was on Sunday.

"We`ll speak with our health and safety people on the matter but it looks like it will be capped again with the reduction on the Hill," McKenna said.

"It was felt that because of the way the crowd filled up on the Hill for the Cork/Dublin match, a reduction was best advised. Normally it fills from front to back, but for the football semi-final it filled from back to front."

McKenna said the decision wasn`t taken because of any potential impairment of vision due to the barrier. "The view is actually quite good, but naturally people will be inclined to try and see over it and that`s where the capacity decision is taken in the interests of safety."

The cost of holding back so many tickets would be in the region of €20,000 for the association __ €40,000 when the football final is taken into account.

Did he ever try looking at a hurling match through a wet window?

D2, there`s always the odd one free.

Due no doubt to accidents or some unforeseen circcumstance.

However, you can be assured that the seat, though actually vacant, was paid for and included in the attendance figures.

Would that the one to my right  (also in the Davin )  was similarly vacant.

I have no doubt that the seat was paid for, but I would have thought that to be included in the attendance figure, the turnstile would have to be clocked, or the ticket`d have to be scanned. No?
