At least once a year I like to pat the GAA on the back, for no other reason than that they deserve it. And last Sunday’s match certainly deserves praise, writes Emmet Moloney...

"To the victors, the laurels. This Tipperary performance would have beaten any team, even the imperious Kilkenny of 2008. It was that good. A standard that might never be repeated again on All-Ireland final day."

he is getting a bit carried away with himself...and by doing so taking away from kilkennys past achievements.
If your look over the match as an moltoir has done tipp didnt even perform as good as in 09, tipp took their chances well, kilkenny played the wrong ball a lot of the time when going forward, and lar corrbet roasted hickey.
kilkenny only hit two wides in 70 minutes in the 08 final, to come out with his statement above shows he knows little about hurling

also a clareman shouting for tipp! will he get the same stick as poor "offaly" gets here?

which upsets you more, that he might just be telling the truth about our performance, or that he has `betrayed` his native county?

coudnt care less who he shouts for, i suppose if you want to believe that tipp produced the best hurling performnce of all time on sunday thats up to you...i would have to disagree, this tipp team have performed better and will probably go on to perform better,...tipp still played great and fair play to them but like i said i think he is getting carried away.
i would prefer if that was the ultimate tipp performance because then it would be easier to beat them next year...but it wasnt and they will improve, but so will kilkenny

Well, I certainly believe we can improve upon that performance.
Which isn`t to say, of course, that it wasn`t good enough to beat any team.

And for those people who would say it wouldn`t have been good enough to have beaten the 2008 version of Kilkenny, how many of those same people were saying, just a few short weeks ago, that this current Kilkenny team are better, and more ruthless, than the 2008 version.

Nice article, too!

Kilkenny `08 would`ve beaten Tipp `10 by 10 points.

Kilkenny 3-30  (39 )
Tipp 4-17  (29 )

...........duhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

would it be possible to have that many scores in a game of hurling?

A lot of those kk scores were accumulated when waterford had clearly given up. So using KK s final score as a measure is not accurate.
KK 08 V Tipp 10 would be a damn close game and not 10 points as you suggest.
You have to factor in the ravenous hunger of Tipp 10 which would trump the hunger of KK 08.

Well I was being slightly facetious with my analogy.

You`re right, a lot of the Kilkenny scores came when Waterford had thrown in the towel, but the KK score at HT was still 2-16, enough to win many an All-Ireland.

The "hungriest" I`ve ever seen Kilkenny was the `06 final against Cork. Sitting in the stands, I was taken aback by the ferocity and energy every player used in hunting down anyone in a red shirt.

Last Sunday`s match, I was so disappointed not so much the poor play of many of the players  (well, that too )  but also the lack of that hunger that some of those player had shown 4 years earlier.
