I cannot understand all this guff about how great he is and how he should be next Taoiseach.
He`s been an appalling Minister for Finance and his handling of Anglo has bankrupted this country for generations to come.

Tradition. Every other politician who did that, back in the day, got his shot at Taoiseach.

His unfortunate illness has naturally got him a lot of sympathy, and made people reluctant to criticise
Wouldnt agree with anything he has done with the banks, and would never vote for him, reckon he has broke the country
Still got to admire the mans working ethic in spite the illness

We might not be in as much sh!t as we are in now. If you`re not there then you can`t do damage.

He`s a senior counsel from the Law Library so of course he can speak well. In the style stakes that looks good compared to the stuttering incoherence of Cowen or Ahern that went before. In Lenihan`s case people have been duped by style over substance. As Seanie has said barristers are good for nothing only waffling. Lenihan hasn`t a clue what he`s doing.

Pres. Obama is in the same boat, plenty of talk now with the November elections coming up.

Well spotted, BlackandWhite1976 - that was the plan - to anticipate a fourth error. It just happened to be another poster who did it. LOL

Some comeback! no attempt to address his points just an ignorant and pithy statement - the fact of the matter is Lenihan guaranteed ALL the liabilities of the banks without having a clue what that put the country in the hole for...Anglo will cost 35 Billion before they finish trying to cover up the dealings there - AIB might need some help aswell but by then Lenihans folly will mean we won`t have the money...

What should Lenihan have done back in September 2008, and what would have been the consequences of your proposed alternative?

Let it fold. Here`s one taxpayer who`s never voted Fianna Fail in his life who`s well p*ssed off to be picking up the tab for it.

I would`ve let the Banks fail to be damned & start again from scratch.
Nobody in Ireland has seen such a scenario ever but it`d be a bit of craic anyways.
Ye could swap a Loaf of Bread for a Pint of Guinness or a Tank of Petrol for your` Neighbours` 1st Born Son etc.
Or it might end-up €20 for a Sliced Pan or Ingredients thereof like Zimbabwe.
Sure if things came to the worst, we could just print more money from the Mint (How come Money doesn`t smell fresh then ha!? ) & get on with it.
