You can`t go wrong with the West Wing boxset..It`s the best thing I`ve ever seen on TV..I got it for Christmas, and I`m on my 4th or 5th viewing of it now..awesome stuff..I have the Wire on boxset too, but haven`t got around to it yet..The English spy drama Spooks is worth a look too..

All mentioned already but The Wire, The Sopranos, The West Wing, The Shield and Band of Brothers are all quality.

A few more would be Oz, Breaking Bad, Generation Kill  (mini series )  and Boardwalk Empire  (although only has 1 season so far ) .

Oz is a great show but not for the faint hearted or easily offended.

Just been watching The Pacific recently, and that`s fairly gripping too. I think I would have preferred fighting the Germans to the Japanese on the evidence provided in both this and Band of Brothers.

The Wire is an absolute must. Once you watch the first couple of episodes, you`ll be hooked. So hooked that you`ll watch 3 episodes at a time.

Sons of Anarchy`s a crackin little show, if you can look past the God-awful Oirish me-laddy accents in it!

Don`t think Deadwood`s been mentioned here yet. Brilliant, brilliant show and Ian McShane is unreal as `Swegen`  (Al Swearengen ) !!

Currently making my way through Treme  (from the creators of the Wire ) . I like it, but I`m not sure if I`m going to love it.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific on Blu-Ray have to be two of the best.

I also got the complete first series  (38 episodes!! )  of Sgt Bilko that I like to stick on for a hangover sunday morning. Quality.

i gave up on treme after 6 episodes, it wasn`t bad but life is too short.
cat malojan, i wasn`t being a smartass, i just can`t imagine watching the same show over and over, it must be amazing.

six feet under was a big favourite of mine and mad men is fantastic.
for comedy you can`t beat a league of gentlemen which can be picked up for a song

Addicted to The Office (US ) . I know it`s not everyone`s cup of tea but I find it hilarious. Anyone else watch it?

Ya it`s a great show especially around seasons 3-5. Once it stopped mimicking the English version it turned out to be great show. It`ll be interesting to see how they get on without Steve Carell though.

If we`re talking comedies then I recommend Arrested Development and It`s Always Sunny In Philadelphia as well.

Great show, have seasons 1-6 watched. Hilarious in parts, but the storyline is strangely addictive too for some reason!

By the way, anyone know are Dexter or Mad Men any use? I have the first 3 seasons of each and never watched `em.

Mad Men is excellent but is very slow paced which can put some people off. Really well made and def worth sticking with. Haven`t seen Dexter but heard some good reports.
