Just looked at the Munster GAA website, I note a new HQ is being built at Castletroy Limerick for the Munster Council.
I could`nt see how much this is costing, anyone know?
Why is it being erected there, why this location, what connection has Castletroy with the GAA?
No money can ever be found to coach young kids or to put coaches into the primary or secondary schools but we are building another building to house administrators for a quango that may well be past its sellby date!

There was an article about this building in the programme for Sundays match. Again it mentioned nothing about the price but harped on about how much the GAA has contributed to local construction firms in the province......€33M in 2009/10 apparently....
From looking at the plans I assume that it will cost €1.5 - 2M.

They have a fine building where they are, with a fine boardroom, but the complaint seems to be a lack of toilets. That is fair enough, but then all they have to do is build on toilets. Shouldnt be very costly in this climate.
The problem now is that their old offices will be worth nothing when they sell them, and the ordinary Joe Soap will pay for the new building.

FOr God`s sake lads, they wouldn`t be building new offices unless they were needed. Limerick is central with the roads, it will mean money spent locally, jobs local and probably GAA jobs, none of ye are being asked to pay for it. (You don`t have to go and watch your countymen if ye don`t want to ) - this from the organisation that has given us Croke Park and a number of revamped stadiums around the country . . . . YET, YE ARE STILL GIVING OUT

I`m surprised the West Waterford lads aren`t demanding that it be put in Dungarvan or Villierstown or something!

Current offices are a mile or so down the road from the new site, in Rhebogue, off the old Dublin Rd.

Well said barrnasraide. There are a load of lads on here who are never happy unless they are giving out about something. Everything the GAA do is wrong. You would sometimes wonder why they follow the games at all.

How is Limerick central with the roads? Road from Cork to Limerick is crap, ditto road from Thurles to Limerick and Waterford to Limerick-decent road from Roscrea and Kerry that`s about it.

Or the lads in the east could just take another chunk of Kilkenny around Ferrybank and locate it there.

Munster Council has been based near Castletroy for years anyways (well, more specifically Rhebogue ) so it doesn`t really make a whole pile of difference. Look at a map of Munster and you`ll see Limerick is the central urban centre and probably the best connected to all the other counties. Purists would probably like the whole shebang to be run from Thurles, but shur that`s more of it.

So the central location you recommend with excellent infrastructure from all directions is where exactly?

Two-mile Borris-they can stick it in between the casino they don`t have a licence for and the underground music venue they don`t have permission for. Then county delegates can fly in and out of Thurles International airport from around the province-you know it makes sense!

The most geographically central town of note in Munster is Charleville by my calculations.
Newtownshandrum is just north of the central point of Munster and would be the most central well-known GAA club in Munster.

No. I refuse to accept that
You cut your cloth to suit your measure in this recession. There is nothing wrong with the offices they have apart from building on toilets.
Its on black and white on todays Limerick Leader that the Leinster Council charged €20 for the Wexford vs Kilkenny and Wexford Football double header recently. The Munster Council charged €30 for one Senior game when Limerick played Waterford.
A Wexford fan could see the footballers and hurlers on one evening for €20. For Limerick to see Kerry in football and Waterford in hurling it would have cost 50 or 55 euro. Every match going patron is paying for the new offices.

You dont expect our 2 esteemed Limerick Officials Pat Fitzgerald and Rory to slum it. Look at what they did for Limerick GAA down the years. They both deserve the very best regardless of cost.!

SLR, quite frankly I couldnt care less where they are situated, what I am interested is how much they will cost?
I cannot find the cost anywhere would you have any idea?
Animal Farm is coming to mind more and more with the GAA, some are far more equal than others within the organisation and many of us can no longer afford to attend games due to the maintenance costs for the administrative elite.
Recently I heard that "Munster GAA" sent down a retinue of 16 people here to Cork to oversee the operation of the Cork Clare Championship game. ( This could have been done by the local lads here ) The high prices some 20 quid to get in ensured only a few diehards turned up but the "Munster GAA " gang were wined and dined in the Silversprings Hotel for the day while they oversaw the local yokels!
Well someone has to pay for it I suppose!

The cost is anyones guess.
Dont know when the land was bought, but its beside Chawkes and across from the Kilmurray Lodge. In essence, land there aint cheap, recession or no recession.
Contract for building could be 500K
