Aoife Kavanagh`s lies about an innocent priest have cost the Irish taxpayer a hefty 7 figure sum.

RTE`s head of communication was this evening asked on the radio if heads should roll as a result of Aoife Kavanagh`s and RTE`s lies. His response was "a rolled head learns nothing".

Here is the link to Aoife Kavanagh`s work. Her lies have been costly to the clergy and costly to the taxpayer. Lets hope that she is shown the door.

The culture in RTE is rotten. It seems to be a case for firing everyone and starting again.

You think this is funny?

A man has his good name destroyed while WE pay for it?

Bloody sure heads should be rolling.

Another RTE cock up at the taxpayers expense. If she doesn`t resign she should be sacked, and without a "golden handshake". Pure gutter journalism. How can we believe any future "fact-finding" programmes by RTE.

Exactly and being that there will not be one cent of the cost of this settlement coming out of her pocket the license paying public should be screaming for her dumb head on a platter at once

She follows Wexford stickfighters.
It shows that token culchies in RTE are bad for business.

And that RTE representative on the News talking about `partial inaccuracies`. Christ almighty, this episode is absolutely scandalous and calls into question the credibility of RTE`s main investigative programme. Kavanagh should definitely lose her job, its a farce if she can keep her job after this.

Good Lord the one reading the correction order there couldn`t have read it faster if she tried.

Meanwhile...on Prime Time, will Miriam mention anything about this extremely disturbing case?

My hole she will.

Fair play to Mary Wilson on RTE DriveTime, though: she gave the pompous RTE spokesman a hard time.

I note Ms Kavanagh has taken a special interest in African affairs: it sounds to me as if it may have been a case of heart ruling the head.
In which case her seniors are every bit as responsible for the crime perpetrated

on Mary Wilson`s radio show, the commentator said "A substantial 7 figure sum".

that could be 3 million or 7 million, its not clear.

I agree with Giant Reed, the rte communications guy on the news made little of the damage the program caused. I would fire them all and start again.

Well said about the Africa angle. Some people will believe any sob story, especially if it targets an unpopular group  (e.g. priests, female circumcisers etc ) .

Even the lawyers told them not to show this programme, by the way.

At least the priest involved is showing a bit more Christianity than you are.
Sacking the woman is not going to soften the bill!
`WE` are already forking out billions year on bloody year in inflated public service wages/pensions and expenses and I don`t hear you calling for heads to roll.

It would be grossly unfair to single out Ms Kavanagh for retribution over this and RTE insiders weel know this and are keeping the wagons circled on this.

Ms Kavanagh is merely the tip of the iceberg of a cabal within RTE and other elements of the media which has had the Catholic church in its sights for many years now.

An incident like this was inevitable  given the venomous nature of this cabal.

One might well wonder who the real godfathers / godmothers actually are.

It is they who should be excoriated for this - not Ms Kavanagh alone.
