Minors training hard at the moment, they have gone for youth, with four under 15s (Under 16 in 2012 ) on the panel which is a surprise. I wouldnt be picking Under 16s on a minor panel unless they were to offer something on the field e.g. Shane Dowling in 2009 who started for the minors as an under 16, as it places a lot of demands on them at a young age and depending on the progress of the minors can interfere with their preparations for playing at their own age group in the Arrabawn tournament. Cian Lynch (Ciarans nephew ) is one of the four, and would be most likely to make the team, or at least be going on as a sub. The other three probably arent ready for minor hurling yet and may not make an appearance, so I would let them with the Under 16s
That particular age group did OK at Forrestal level, and won the Under 17 last year, but that panel seems to have been broken up somewhat. What are the chances for 2012??? On paper I would have said that the best Limerick minor team we have had was in 2010 and the 2011 group were more spirited, more workmanlike but not as individually talented. On paper this group wouldnt be deemed to be as good as the 2010 or 2011 minors
Doon CBS won their Munster colleges game yesterday in Ballygiblin and are now in the Quarter final, so it provides a shop window for some of their players. The Limerick minor select ors will be busy between watching Ard Scoil Ris, Castletroy College and now also Doon CBS.
The Under 21s have their panel picked already it seems with the majority of this years panel still underage.

Three Limerick Teams Albeit with a few from Clare on Ard Scoil Ris and a few from tipp with Doon is something very positive...giving each a panel of 25 does it mean theres over 60 Limerick hurlers looking forward to a Harty Cup quater final..if so youd imagine there would be a serious Limerick Minor team ...but even if not Hurling in Limerick is a stronger position than it was in a long time underage???...was there ever three limerick teams in the harty quarters?..where are charleville?..always had a few from Limerick....

SLR how are they training hard at the moment during the closed season and considering collective training cannot begin for minors until March 1st of the competition year?

I wasnt aware of any ban to be honest.
In that case, there is no collective training going on!

The closed season applies to all Inter County panels and the minors are not allowed to begin collective training until March 1st. Both rules are in the Official Guide!!!

Dubliner 2 is correct that Minor County teams can not start training until March, 1st. I am more than surprised the SLR was not aware of this rule.

I hear they have a panel of roughly 40 picked and only 39 turned up for training the other night so that wasnt collective training!!!!!! No rule stating that training cant continue if the panel is broken up into smaller groups so therefore no rule is being broken. Train away lads, train away

No offence lads but do Limerick intercounty players not face enough pressure on here without ye now bigging up Minor and U21 players in December?

To be slightly more polite about it, this is not the competitive year so they are probably ok until January 1 2012.

But it is December and that is closed season for ALL inter county teams.
My issue with this is that minor, certainly in Dublin, has become an end in itself. Dual players in Dublin are being flogged into the ground twelve months a year now.
You have a situation where the likes of Nemo are being told they cannot share their facilities with other codes. "It`s in the rule book" they`re told. Yet young, developing lads also covered by rule in order to ensure that they are not abused by sundry coaches are being forced to break the very rule designed to protect them by people who should know better.
We either have rules or we don`t and county boards who either won`t enforce rules or who claim that because panels are split in three that this is not collective training should hang their heads in shame. These are boys we are talking about.
So much for the G.A.A.`s code of conduct for children.

Can you explain how we are `bigging them up`?
By having a thread on their panels who are already back doing work? Whats wrong with that? I thought this was a Gaa site, no?

Look lets not beat around the bush here.
The minor management saga summed up all that is wrong about Limerick hurling. Broken promises and continuity systems broken. Now we have a 15 year old player on the minor panel who did not make the Tony forrestal panel last year. To give that player his due he has improved but he is not good enough for county minor.
The under 21 gaffers were picked because they would pick as many Na piarsaigh as possible and because they would reserve the corner forward jersey for an Adare man. The players are there to win back the national title but that sort of messing is intolerable.
Leo did himself no favours but he was sinned against more than he sinned himself. Anthony carmody didnt get the minor job because his son is better than someone elses son.

I think you sum up whats wrong with Limerick Hurling...
Shane Fitzgibbon did an excellent job with the minors - therefore he deserves to remain as manager. Anthony Carmody will get his chance.
Leo was never going to be u21 manager again this year after the gaff he made following the galway game. thats just common sense.

Carmody will get no chance. He did a brilliant job with the u-16 and winning the u-17 last year and now isn`t deemed even good enough to even be select or this year. Continuity my ass. Unelected committees now call the shots in Limerick. Joe Quaid is already bulling re the minors next year so Carmody and James Moran will be shafted again.

SITE SAVIOUR _ IF YOU THINK THAT SHANE FITZGIBBON DID AN EXCELLENT JOB WITH THE MINORS THIS YEAR THEN YOU ARE EITHER BIASED OR DELUDED - OR BOTH !! SHANE DOWLING WAS DEPRIVED OF HAVING AT LEAST ONE MORE MEDAL IN HIS BACK POCKET THIS YEAR - BUT THE TEAM THAT WAS PICKED FOR THE SEMI FINAL IN WATERFORD AND IN PARTICULAR ONE VITAL DEFENSIVE POSITION select ION PUT PAID TO THAT , AND BEFORE YOU SAY IT I HAVE NO AXE TO GRIND WITH ANYONE , BUT I AM APPALED THAT AS A COUNTY WE HAVENT MOVED ON WITH REGARDS TO MAKING THE MOST OF THE TALENT WE HAVE AT OUR DISPOSAL , AND WE HAVE A LOT OF TALENT BOTH NOW AND COMING - MORE THAN WE`VE POSSIBLY EVER HAD. MY POINT IS - IS THAT WE OF ALL COUNTIES CANNOT AFFORD TO WASTE IT - AND WASTE IT WE DID WITH THIS YEARS MINORS- THIS SIMPLY CANNOT CONTINUE !!!!!!!!!!

I have no problem with unelected committees, and consider them quite a progressive step provided that they maintain total independence and are not aligned to any faction within Limerick. The three man committee for instance were good for Limerick and did the job without bias, interference or otherwise.
There was much criticism of the Under 21 and Minor appointments, which was a combination of county board officers and independent people. Its a pity the senior three man committee didnt pick all the managers to be honest, and we would not have the backlash, and the perception of bias would not be there.

Leo felt the need to reply to Na Piarsaigh through legal means after galway game. Why was this? Shafted since!!!!!!
