A Limerick combined VEC schools hurling team take on their Wexford counterparts in Rathkeale tomorrow at 2pm. Maybe I`m wrong, but I cannot see it on any GAA fixture schedule, which is a shame as it`s inter-county hurling for a number of lads, many of whom are overage for minors and/or not involved in the marquee schools competitions like the Dr. Harty cup.

I know the Limerick VEC lads are proud to represent their schools and county  (as, I`m sure, are the Wexford lads )  and would love to see supporters  (besides their parents )  at the game, especially as they have home venue.

As far as I know the Limerick schools are made up from Rathkeale, Dromcollogher, Askeaton, Croom and NCW. Please updete  this thread if I`ve missed a school.

Cork play Galway away tomorrow as well. Standard can be quite good in these games. Remember years ago the Vocs final was on before the National Hurling League Final and proved to be quite good. Limerick should be strong with Dromcollogher, who pick up some lads from Newtownshandrum,  (think Jamie Coughlan went to school there )  and Rathkeale would be handy enough too. Don`t know about Wexford at all.

There must be two matches together in Rathkeale tomorrow so, because Limerick are playing UCC in a Senior Hurling Challenge.

Offaly play Kilkenny too. I wouldn’t have known this but it is mentioned on the St Rynagh’s Hurling Club notes on their site. And I still don`t know where it is on.

Now the Leinster Council carry fixtures of all schools matches under their jurisdiction on their web page. However, these aren’t Leinster matches so I, like TwoHands, couldn’t get the fixtures anywhere.

I saw Banagher beat Dromcollogher in an All-Ireland semi-final two years ago. Dromcollogher had two Jamie Coughlans in the full-forward line. Both were from Newtownshandrum.

I think this is the last year of this competition as to the best of my knowledge Vocational Schools and colleges are combining their competitions next year.
Best of luck to all the young lads involved. It is an honour to wear your county jersey at any representative level. And also fair play to the teachers involved in running these teams as it cannot be easy I`m sure.

Hazelwood  (Drom )  is by far the strongest of the Vocational Schools in Limerick and will probably have about 10 of the starting 15 tomorrow.

Throw in is at 2PM.

If there is serious thought going into entering a 3rd Limerick team of combined schools into the Harty Cup, then they should talk with the management of this vec team. I`m sure they could provide valuable information regarding the logistics and other challenges of organising trials and training for multiple schools.

And with the combination of the two schools competitions, next year would be the perfect time to enter a third team, which Limerick hurling so desperately needs....three school teams playing top level hurling, meaning more 16-19yr olds receiving quality training through the winter months.

Limerick 1.11 - Wexford 0.5. Comfortable  enough win for Limerick. They progress to play the winners of Offaly and Kilkenny - does anyone know how that went?

The score would have been more had the Limerick forwards taken their points in the first half, instead of trying to create  goal opportunities every time they had possession.  (HT 5pts to 1pt )  Wexford improved in the second half but so did Limerick who seem to have stronger players all over the field and they all won their duels.

Not sure of the lineout but the midfield diamond of 6, 8, 9 and 11 were the standout players. As far as I know these were David Condron Granagh Ballingarry 6, Mike O Brien, Sth liberties 8, Jamie Butler, Feohanagh/Deel rangers 9 and Owen O Farrell, Croom? 11.
Conditions were poor with the game played on the 3rd pitch in Mick Neville Park and the grass was very long. Wexford were poor enough but there was nothing in it until Limerick`s 11 goaled from a free in the 3rd quarter.
Limerick now play winners of Offaly/Kilkenny and will need all their panel available for that, only 15 togged out today. John Sexton was the ref and Limerick will be more pleased with his handling of the game than the visitors.

I thought that John Sexton  (Cork )  was a strange appointment given that he was formerly John Sexton  (Limerick ) .

Heard from someone at the game that Limerick had 0 subs and 0 training sessions and are through to the All Ireland Semi Final now

No subs but did have a few training sessions and challenges vs some of the schools. I think the next game is a quarter final.
