Colaiste na nDeise  (again with 14 men for the full game )  have just qualified for the Harty Cup final. Is it not high time we worked towards entering a similiar amalgamated team from West Limerick?

That is currently being discussed. NCW/ABBEYFEALE/RATHKEALE/ASKEATON Schools. Apparently they want Dromcollogher to go in aswell. Think its the VEC schools, not sure if SMI Newcastlewest is part of it.

They need every school involved to make a real go of it. No point in one or two schools staying out of it.

Delighted to hear this. I have been trying to get people at the top to initiate this with years. I see a number of junior teams had players on that Waterford side today

When you say this is currently being discussed, can I ask by who exactly?

I heard this too. Hazelwood and SMI unlikely to be involved. If they got all the schools in the West together they would have a decent team in 2014

I would imagine that the participation of Dromcollogher would be the most likely way of them fielding a top class team. Did i hear that they are drawing a good few from Newtown these days?

Abbeyfeale and NCW schools have not entered any competitions as an amalgamation. There is a new school in Abbeyfeale now and the 3 previous secondary schools have closed. This new school is called Colaiste Ide agus Iosef. I understand they plan to enter Corn Ui Mhuiri on their own next year and that Limerick GAA is helping them out with a GDA in the school.
The NCW schools woild not be as competitive at the moment.
A combined west schools team in football would be very strong.

I feel that there is far more potential in a west limerick schools football panel than there would be hurling. If you take the majority of the Limerick underage football panels at the moment a high proportion of the players are coming from west limerick which highlights the strenght of players in the area. NCW were in the feile final last year and also won the u16 football,  (correct me if im wrong here ) , St. Kierans have been in the past two premier minor finals and have a number of good underage players coming through while Fr. Caseys won the minor last year and continue to produce a quality players and Rathkeale have become very strong at underage over the past three or four years with the junior/intermediate side containing 4 u17s last year..
I also heard that the school in Abbeyfeale are thinking of entering the corn ui mhuiri which is a good idea as they have a large pick in the area and are also drawing players from North Kerry. If enough schools bought into the idea then there is huge potential to have a decent side. How many schools make up the waterford colleges side in the harty as a matter of interest?

Who would make the decision, can the schools themselves decide to enter or to amalgamate or does it need to go to a COMMittee.

The players in football are not stronger in the west than anywhere else.

The County board made Rathkeale a training centre and the cream of the talent from the south and the east wont make the long trek back there. That is why the west have so many on teams.

That is rubbish now, the majority of senior football clubs are front west limerick, the standard of football is higher as the clubs play in a higher grade and football is their main game in a similar way as hurling is the main game of the south and east.

The West dominated football at all grades and provided more players to county teams long before the Rathkeale development.
The hurlers also train in Rathkeale but the South have dominated in recent years.
