Under 18 team drew with Cork in the Munster Championship at the weekend in the Top Grade but were reliant on goals in a 4-9 to 0-21 draw. The Under 16s won the B All Ireland last year and had a few decent forwards that have graduated to this years Under 18 team.
They are needed because a lot of the 2007 All Ireland Winning Senior B team have started to drift. Its a pity that Naomi Carroll went to Clare and that Anna Geary is playing for Cork because they would be two excellent players to have.

Who can blame players for choosing other teams.
The standard in Limerick is low at the minute.

Naomi Carroll was kicking ass for Mary I recently, was she with Limerick?
Is Anna Geary from the Limerick side of the border, how come she ended up playing with Cork?
If they are losing to Derry things must be very bad.

Naomi Carroll won the Under 18 All Ireland title in 2009 for Limerick almost single handedly with an injury time hat trick in the final against Waterford at Mallow. She transferred back to Clare the following year.
Anna Geary is apparently from the Dromcollogher side of Milford but started with them and stayed with them. I think she is connected to Martin Geary of the 1963 Limerick Minor team, who is the father of Niall Geary of Tramore and Waterford and later Cork and Nemo Rangers.

Was that an injury time hat trick of goals? Clare camogie is hardly big time.

I was wrong, she only got two goals in injury time
*************************************************
Limerick
All-Ireland Minor B Camogie Championship 2009
Limerick 3-10
Waterford 1-15
Limerick captured the 2009 minor B All-Ireland final with a pulsating injury time win over Waterford, five points down and time up, no one could believe the Limerick girls could pull this one out of the bag, but reminiscent of what Offaly hurlers did to us in ‘04, player of the game Naomi Carroll pulled two balls from the skies over Mallow and crashed both of them past a helpless Waterford keeper.
Limerick went into this game hot favourites after emphatic wins over Kildare, Down and Wexford.
When Ref Dermot Connolly (Galway ) threw the ball in at 7pm all previous form went out the window with Waterford hitting the ground running 1-01 to no score before Naomi got Limerick going with a point after ten minutes. Another point from Port Lairge corner forward Caithriona McGlone was quickly answered by Limerick’s number 13 Rachel Carmody, and from there until half time the sides traded points to leave the half time score Limerick 0-06 to Waterford 1-06 .
Phelim and Jim introduced two subs at half time Caroline Scanlon and Tara Hurley making way for Emma Kelly and Mairead Ryan, again the Deise girls were quick out the blocks out scoring Limerick by three points to one in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Phelim tried the bench again to see could he spur his charges into life and this time young Kristy Carroll got the ball rolling when she came on for Claire Casey.
She popped over two brilliant frees, another brace of points from star centre forward for Waterford Patricia Jackman restored the lead to five with 10 minutes left on the clock. The momentum was now with Waterford but not for long, up again stepped Naomi to crash a great ball to the back of the net, game on again.
Two points in it and only eight minutes to go, the large Limerick crowd could taste victory, unfortunately the girls from Waterford had not read the script, again Waterford took their points with ease , with Annette McAuliffe raising only one white flag for Limerick in the next eight minutes, 1-10 to 1-15 with 60 minutes on the clock and no one would have begrudged Waterford the victory.
But no one told our International Hockey player from Na Piarsaigh , two green flags from Naomi Carroll , who could believe it the Minor B All-Ireland title was going to Shannonside. Brillant stuff and for those of ye that might be a bit superstitious the last time Limerick Camogie won an Ireland Final was in 2007, when the Senior’s captured the Senior B Title, the same year we played Kilkenny in the Hurling Final , the omens are good for Sunday.
Other stars for Limerick on the night were the full back line of Lisa Scanlon, Niamh Power and Aisling Enright, well done to all the girls who have given their all for Limerick Camogie over the last number of months, and congrats to all the management team for what they have done for the girls .
Limerick county board in association with Carmel Burke of Allseasonssport have a souvenir polo shirt on sale to commemorate this great victory, check the website for further info or contact Carmel.

I just heard they were hammered by Waterford today in the camogie. Not enough players from the best club in the county.

They werent hammered. The final score was 4-8 to 1-14.
Need to win both games against Antrim and Derry to keep the qualification hopes alive now.

In fairness, it's not as simple as that is it? At least not from what I hear on the grapevine. Obviously I cannot quote a mans name directly but I got a phonecall from someone in the county camogie set-up who asked me was there a funeral locally as one of the players had such an event to attend at the last minute. No funeral, of course. If players do not want to commit then they should not pretend they care by going to matches or fawning concern. I would have a lot more respect for someone who said no thanks, rather than someone who said 'well maybe' and not meaning a word of it.

They owned the ball for vast chunks of the second half but it wouldnt happen for them. There were chances.
I thought that after last years Munster Intermediate final that they would maybe have been conscious of how best to deal with Trish Jackman but it wasnt the case. They have Derry and Antrim to play, possibly in Ashbourne, and possibly missing a few more players.
There will be a greater range of options available next year with last years Under 16s coming through, and it will be easier to leave players on the bench if they havent been 100% committed.

They could leave players on the bench SLR they are not that short. Picking players that haven't been at any trainings makes no sense. Also, too many players are being played out of their natural and best positions. They should not have lost that game yesterday but the difference in waterfords teamwork which was very visible in their passing and support, and limericks unbalanced selection swung the game.

At the very least, what they need to do in the next two games is match pace with pace in defence at least. You cannot have mismatches in terms of pace especially in camogie or you will be destroyed.
For all Waterford's excellent teamwork yesterday, very little from a Limerick defensive perspective would have beaten them.

I don't think the problem is matching pace with pace. What Limerick need are their best players playing in their best positions to allow them to have as much influence on the game as possible. We don't have enough players of the top top quality to afford to marginalise them. The team have some really top quality players but they will look ordinary and not contribute their true potential to the team if they stuck in a position they are unsuited to. The problem is made worse when you have a player of lesser quality playing in a central position getting in trouble. I wouldn't say Clare have a hugely better field of players to choose from but they have shown what can be achieved when the set up is right.

Why has Camogie in Limerick slipped so much over the last while. Its not long ago the County were winning underage and adult All Ireland titles and the future looked bright.I remember watching some sports programme on tv featuring the Sheehan sisters from Granagh as Limerick contested a senior C.ship semi final. Not sure how long ago that was but I think Ciaran Carey was the manager at the time. Was not enough done to build on this and blend that team with the fine young players that followed shortly after.?

That Breaking Ball was back in 2003. Arising out of that game, there was holy murder at a camogie meeting because of comments posted on the Old Clare Hurlers. They came in 2007 under Ciaran and won the League and Championship.
Last years under 16 team are the future, but they cant play until next year.

I would have no idea of the players involved in camogie and not be able to attempt naming team.I follow Limerick whatever the sport and cant understand how we could fall so dramatically from such high standing. Are any of the side involved in that semi still with the team, and surprised to see that Ciaran Carey didnt come on scene till 2007

I wouldn't like to go through the whole team but look at any team and you need to sort the spine of the team. They have a brilliant full/centre back thats being played out of position who should be moved back. Ditto for another midfielder or half back who should be moved back. Add the two mulcahys and cregan and you've a spine of a team with players that will completely dominate. That's the start.

i was at the game myself the weekend and to say the management didnt do any favours by moving one of their most on form player away from the goal were she is most dangerous in the full forward line , waterford loved every minute of it known that she was basically helping her own backline out rather then scoring . you could see when she got settled in second half on the wing she started putting points over . I cant see Limerick beating Derry as they are the favourites to win it this year . Interesting group .

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about, when you have a limited number of players that are going to make an impact these sorts of positional blunders are going to completely hamstring the team.

The standard is low in Limerick at the minute. Ask John Ryan ex-RLO about the camogie players.
