What would be the best hurling team made up of current footballers and football team team made up of current hurlers look like.

For example
Shane Dooley Offaly hurler is quite a good footballer and is Tullamores best player
Dan Currams current Offaly footballer played hurling for Offaly up until this year    (and probably will again   )

Same situation would apply for the likes of Conal Keaney and Diarmuid Connnolly.

Would it be possible to mke up a team of decent intercounty standard for each code using players currently playing teh other code

We`ll exclude current dual players like Eoin Cadogan for the puposes of this topic

All the McGrath`s of Loughmore are handy dual players.

Brick Walsh & Shane Walsh are serious footballers.

Paul Galvin is supposed to be one of the best hurlers in Kerry when he actually plays. Eamonn Fitzmaurice was a handy hurler too.

Aidan Walsh & Ciarán Sheehan in Cork. Cahalane as well.

On another note, Niall Quinn played minor hurling  (and football? )  for Dublin and then junior club football in Kildare after he retired!

Shane Long was a serious hurling prospect in Tipp before signing for Reading while Tomás O`Leary captained Cork to a minor hurling All-Ireland. Paul Flynn  (Waterford )  had goalkeeper trials at Aston Villa

Noel McGrath is a fine footballer for Loughmore.
Paul Curran was on Mullinahone,s county intermediate winning football team as was Eoin Kelly.
Brendan Cummins was a regular at wing forward for tipp many years ago too and rated.

Can`t think of too many more on the Tipp panel.

On the current Tipp panel Brian O`Meara was full forward on the Tipp u21 football team that won the Munster Championship 2 years, as was John Coughlan who played in 4 u21 Munster Finals in a row. Shane Maher was on the Tipp football panel in 2003 along with the now retired Dec Fanning.

Was Declan Browne a good hurler?

Galway`s Barry Daly is a tidy footballer and rugby player

I am surprised that you overlooked John Coghlan and Buggy O`Meara who were on the Tipp team that won the Munster Under 21 title in 2010. Coghlan is good enough to be on the Tipp football panel. Shane Maher has also played football for Tipp. All would be far better footballers than Eoin Kelly.

When I think of dual players the names JBM, Teddy Mac, Ray Cummins, Jack Lynch, Denis Coughlan, Brian Murphy all Cork come to my head. As does Offalys Liam Currams and Downs Greg Blaney.

Current Cork hurlers Eoin Cadogen, John Gardiner, Sean Og, Damien Cahalane, Tom Kenny would make a lot of county football panels while Patick Horgan Lorcan McLoughlin and Paudie O Sullivan are also decent footballers and ive been told Sweetnam, Luke O Farrell and Anthony Nash have been known to boot the big ball on occasion too.

On the football side of things Aidan Walsh and Ciaran Sheehan are a loss to the Cork hurling panel while John Miskella, Nick Murphy, Daniel Goulding, Pearse O Neill, Ray Carey and Colm O Neill are all decent hurlers for their clubs.

Never knew Shane Maher played football for Tipp. Do Burgess go well at the football too?

On the Antrim football panel at the minute, Aodhan Gallagher, CJ McGourty, Kevin McGourty, Micheal Magill, Andy McLean, and Sean Burke are all very good hurlers.

They make up a lot of that Kenyons team I think.

Maher captained Tipp at 21 level.

They also had Tony Dunne and Brian Quinn on the under21 footballers who were unlucky to lose the Munster final to Cork. Think Dunne started and Quinn came on.

Damien O`Brien, centre/full forward for their Senior hurlers, would have played minor and under 21 too.

Tony Dunne`s brother, Mark or Michael I think? is also a flaking footballer, don`t know did he ever play county though.

I wouldn`t be too keen to Put a hurley in Paul Galvins hand. With his disciplinary record he could end up seriously hurting somebody

Declan Browne was on the Tipperary hurling panel around 99 or 00, seen him play corner forward in the league against Laois in O`Moore Park.

The Limerick Senior Football team!

Johnny McCarthy  (Centre Forward with UCD Fitzgibbon Cup team and unreal for his club )

John Riordan  (Has a Fitz medal wth LIT, played 2 years Minor and 3 years U21 with Limerick hurlers and played wing back for Limerick Intermediates, hurling is his first sport )

Stephen Lucey
Mark O`Rordan
Conor Fitzgerald
Mark Keane
Mike O`Brien
Brian Begley
All played Senior Hurling and Football Championship for Limerck

Stephen Lavin  (numerous County Senior medals with Adare & played Senior League with Lmerck n 08 )  also Padraig Browne played Senior League with Limerick in 08, a fine hurler who scored a hat-trick in County Intermediate final win for Tournafulla Hurlers

Stephen Kelly is a club hurler of note with NCW and so is his brother James. So too was Micheál Reidy and Seanie Buckley is still a fine club player, both with Drom/Broadford.

Ger Collins was frst and foremost a hurler. Was a very good county minor and played in All Ireland Minor Final of 2005

Eoin O`Connor is one of Rathkeale`s best hurlers and Seamus O`Carroll was a member of Limerick U21 extended panel last year

Former Inter county footballers Bobby O`Brien and Cormac Joyce Power famously picked minor football with limerick over minor hurling.

Pa Ranahan played with Western Gaels hurlers for a good few years and he and Shane Gallagher were excellent underage hurlers on feile winning Askeaton teams and are still very decent club hurlers for Askeaton even if commitment to it wouldnt be top priority.

Theres a huge crossover in Limerck in fairness, i suppose one could say jacks of all trades and masters of none... : (

Flynners was an apprentice at Villa. And for a season or so played both inter-county hurling for Waterford and soccer goalkeeper for Waterford United. I think there was one time he played for both on the same day, with a helicopter bringing him between games.

Players who represented Limerick in both:
Seamus Murphy Templeglantine - Minor Goalie in Both Codes
Johnny McCarthy - UCD Fitzgibbon player

The 6 dual players from 2004. Senior in Both
Brian Begley
Mark O`Riordan
Stephen Lucey
Conor Fitz
Mark Keane
Mike O`Brien

James Ryan Senior in Both
Brian Geary Under 21 Footballer Senior Hurler
Eoin Ryan Senior Football and Hurler

Others like Mike Houlihan, Terence Kenny and Declan Nash would have played both for Limerick at Senior Level

And Brian McGilligan was the pick of the Derry dual stars, horse of a man.
