A Kilkenny football team took another hammering the other night. Cadbury Leinster U21FC FT: Louth 6-35 Kilkenny 0-2. The Cats had no substitutes after 11 of their panel failed to turn up.

Now the usual ``theres no interest`` ``why dont other teams promote hurling`` for me is not good enough.

Why are county boards all over the country put under pressure to promote hurling yet this is constantly happening in Kilkenny?

11 of their panel failed to turn up - No interest in the game in the county

Bit of a chicken and egg situation. There is no interest in football but there is also no interest in promoting football from the Kilkenny county board.

As far as I`m aware the Kilkenny footballers back in the 70`s actually used to win games fairly regularly in the lower reaches of the league at least. So there is no reason why Kilkenny footballers can`t at least be competitive at that level. Obviously other smaller counties since then have made big efforts to improve their standards but it looks like it was just allowed to wither on the vine in Kilkenny.

My thoughts exactly - lad hasn`t a clue. There`s f**k all pressure on football counties to play hurling. They have the luxury of being able to play against similarly sh1te opposition and maintain the facade of being "competitive", or that they`re "promoting" hurling.

To be honest I think all this criticism of Kilkenny is over the top. If Fermanagh or Louth played Kilkenny in hurling they would be bate out the gate, but there wouldn`t be the same uproar. It`s unfair on Kilkenny as in their Division in the league you have the likes of Limerick who have been able to hold their own against Kerry in the past. Would any Division IV hurling teams be able to get close to Division I hurling teams?

On the other hand, it is also fairly unfair for teams to prepare seriously for a match and then go out and play Kilkenny and put up these scores in a total non-event. Would Kilkenny be better off just giving up on the football altogether? I guess it`s up to Kilkenny footballers - if they really want to play these matches then leave them off, but if it`s only half-arsed anyways then what`s the point?

To be fair, it`s a bit disingenuous to be comparing the Fermanagh footballers with the Kilkenny hurlers...not on the same level, nor anywhere close...

That is the main issue I have with the Kilkenny footballers. What a complete waste of time and money for Fermanagh today and Louth during the week

Generally not a good five days for KK football. Between the minors v Louth, under 21`s v Laois and seniors v Fermanagh we scored 7 points & conceded a whopping
21-72. Up at Nowlan Park today someone suggested the minor & under 21 hurlers should fulfil the football fixtures as part of their training, at least they would ensure we always have subs etc...

Meanwhile we had an all KK Leinster Colleges hurling final yesterday, a junior KK club  (Ballyraggett )  have already won the junior All Ireland this year & our under 21 hurlers beat 2 senior teams to get us through quarter & semi finals of Walsh Cup. In other words nothing for us to worry about in the bigger scheme of things.

A player called Sean Allen

Got split open in a game and had to be taken to hospital by someone who was going on to another engagement. He looked for the jersey back, and Sean had to wait topless in the reception area for 2 hours for someone to collect him
