crusheen-vs-da bridge clare cup division 2 result 1-16 to 6 points in favour of the bridge. Crusheen forwards were pathetic, some players you would have expected to play well were very poor, alan touhy should have been shown red for a desperate belt! forwards really need to improve, if crusheen have any hope of staying up!!

'Reds'........ha ha BP, do they no longer deserve the 'Co Champs' tag that they had for the first round.

Our second team would be very young, alot of under 21s and minors. Many of these would even have gotten a run with the seniors against Whitegate.

All in all the seconds will struggle this year after 2 promotions in 2 years(a serious achievement by any stretch of the imagination). The experience would be a serious benefit to those coming through though. When you have 5-10 lads of the age of 17-21 getting games against strong opposition between Intermediate and Senior on a weekly basis you will derive benefit. Burnout/Injuries could be a problem with this but Jamie Fitzgibbon benefited by moving up last year and it wouldnt surprise me if a few more come to the fore this year by the same manner.

With Vaughan, O'Grady, Forde, Tony & Paddy Meaney and Gearoid O'Donnell out last week a number of our younger players got game time against Whitegate at senior. Playing alongside our full set of backs will benefit them in time.

I would be of the view we will struggle for much of the cup this year as players recover from injuries/operations etc. The experience younger players pick up here though could be invaluable!

Be timberin, you maybe right re: not doing so well in the cup this year. one good thing about the U21's getting game time is the older lads in the team get a chance to meet them and see who they are and what kinda hurlers they are. some strange faces I tell you.

whitegate were poor and I hear 4 or 5 of them are heading overseas this week so i'd say they will earn it to gather a few points this year. Crusheen are very lucky in that regard so far.

the cup this year is about preparing well for the championship and blooding new young talent, and as you said there is definitely potential in the squad this year. I'd say the combo will have a good craic at the cup this year.

They probably look at last year and said they could have won the Cup. They werent far off Newmarket and Lafferty would have been a huge loss for the final.

Integration is a difficult thing to manage but crucial for a team to maintain its quality. We havent exactly got a conveyor belt MB as i said on here before - numbers arent exactly huge underage as they might be in time but once you have 1 or 2 making the step up every year or so you will keep at a certain level even if you may drop a bit from your peak.

When you think of the lads on the Crusheen side in their 30s who've been playing their trade at senior level for Crusheen since the mid 90s, its some change now. Young fellas coming through to carry a very different baton to what they carried. Reality tells us we wont be able to keep going forever at the top but we should have a chance for a few more years anyway with the some of the players we have - we've been very lucky that emmigration/serious injuries havent hit us too hard!

Of course they do !
I think you're trying to be a bit mischievous there - no harm it's only a bit of craic,
I remember a lad getting a bit annoyed after I put the title of " The Party Boys " down for his club, for a cup game after it had appeared in that weeks Express.

Any sign of TAN returning btw ??

I might suggest that the early time for the Clare cup games on Saturday might be linked to an event for the senior hurlers later in the night

big win for the County Champions over a combo side that comfortably accounted for the Blues in their previous game (also at home ).
Did Kilmaley play without all their U21 s ? - I see the Clearys played in Saturday nights minor win for Clare footballers v Waterford and then turned out again on the Sunday at 1.30pm , tough lads !

was at the crusheen game and they were worthy winners against us and in truth except for the first twenty minutes they were never in trouble
cian dillon was impressive at centre back and gave niall arthur a lesson and scored a fine solo effort in the second half after catching a puck out and making his way to the forty
ciaran o doherty played well as did the entire crusheen full and half back lines
kennedy was lucky to stay on after leading with his head and then striking with the hurley however the game wasnt dirty to any great extent and the tackles were mistimed rather than malicious
we scored the two goals toward the end and in fairness both of them were very soft i would say that donal tuohy was embarrassed to have let either of them in
ambrose reffed it well overall i thought
for ourselves we need to improve a lot between now and championship lest we have a very short campaign for the canon. Playing eamonn glynn in the half forward line does him and us no favours and before the end of the game he was back in the half back line where he is best placed to aid our cause
there was a good crowd there and while the reds are not a champiopnship speed yet there were glimpses of what could happen if numbers 2 to 7 really open up.

Thanks for that busdriver,
Crusheen seem to be motoring well already and have Paddy Vaughan's return to look forward to as well.

Busdriver,

First goal conceded was because of the corner back missing a pickup in front of his goals, leaving the corner to waltz in and finish point blank. Second goal was conceded when the Crusheen wing-back batted the ball into his net form a free-in. Would hardly blame the Crusheen keeper for either of these.

Also, Eamon Glynn did not feature in the half-forward line for I-K. He was mid-field for most of the game and moved to wing back for the last 10/15 mins..

a more competitive div 1a this year with Clonlara & Cratloe regaining 1a status, & only 2 teams to make semis from this div.

think it would be fairer to have 3 teams make the semi finals from this div + the div 1b winners , or at least allow a play-off for the 3rd team in 1a v's runner up in 1b.
