Just to add, family flowers only at the funeral - any donations to the Cormac Trust set up to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest in the wake of the death of Cormac McAnallen of Co. Tyrone.

On behalf of Kilburn Gaels and I'm sure the Forde family, I'd like to thank everyone who came to the service last night for Cathal in Cricklewood. It was a very emotional evening as you would expect and many a tear was shed in the churh during the service, before and after. It was great to see so many from the GAA community and all the clubs in London represented there to pay their respect. We were saying it after in Tony's Bar that its a shame that we only ever get together for these occasions. Michael Dwyer who was full forward on the Kilburn Gaels team with Cathal that won the county title in 2010 got up and said a wonderful piece about Cathal, they were very close for as long as Cathal came to London. Cathals's brother Niall also got up and said a few words that must have been very hard for him. The club held a collection for the Cormac Fun and raised roughly £3400 afterwards. The GAA community in London isnt huge by any means but rally around one another. Flatty made a point on the other thread for Cathal that the bond between lads and clubs in London is unique and very strong. I hurled for the Gabriels when I came here first and it was great to see so many of them there last night, same for the Emmets and the Murphys and all the other clubs. Cathal was flown back to Ireland this morning to be brought home to Gort and his final resting place. Gone for us but never forgotten. Load of lads there as well from all over the world that he worked with. RIP Cathal Forde.

Outside of family and friends, I have always had great respect for lads I hurled with and against and formed many great friendships playing hurling. Maybe its down to the game itself and in England that we are carrying on a great tradition playing what I and most of those lads feel is the greatest game on the planet. In order to play hurling in London, it takes huge committment. You work hard in training pushing one another on, having the craic and the few pints after. Hurling requires a lot of skill but also a certain amount of bravery. I have no doubt that those sorts of bonds were formed in battles all the way up to the trenches of WW1. One of our lads feel this week, its only fitting that we would mark it and remember who he was. Our traditions our strong and have been passed on to us and will be passed on to those we'll eventually leave behind us.

Well said. You know maybe one has to leave home in order to capture what was always instilled in our hearts from day one. When I think of the great lads I met over here from all the other countys that made life easier for me.There was an awful amount of Kerry lads, a county I hated because of their superiority in football oppposed to us and the fact that we never went anywhere.I was obviously a very stupid young man as tell you the truth those were the lads that never looked at me and what was done on the football field but what we had done together as young lad's when all was said and done were all in the same boat all here together in a very strange country. The bonds that were sown from those days with them made me hopefully a better person and I will go to my grave being indebted to them.Ya later on most of us went our own way and a good few never met up again.I regret that but shur that's life we were like trains passing in the night
