Fancy that myself. Had already planned to back it. Thought it might be a bigger price than that though.

I'm going for Vic Venturi myself, his 3rd attempt at the race, brought down the last 2 years when travelling well. Heard an interview with Dessie Hughes and according to him Vic and Black Applachi are bouncing at home. So fingers crossed at 100/1 in Williamhill.

I'll second that, backed him a few weeks ago at 25/1. I've also a bit on Rare Bob e/w at 40/1

Didn't Synchronised make a real dogs dinner of the Grand National?

Great shout cnoc.

Went for Neptune Collonges and Black Apalachi €5 each way.

Seabass ran a great race too, one to watch.

Happy as a pig in sh*t this evening, CH 1 PP 0! (for a welcome change)

I still cant understand why they decided to put the Gold Cup winner into the Grand National on top weight. In my view, the statement "he deserve's to take his chance" is complete bullsh1t.

If you ask me, it smells of pure greed. The horse had achieved what is effectively the pinnacle of jumps racing and they decided "sure fcuk it lets put him in here and hope things go his way aswell".

Synchronised was as tough as horse as i've seen in racing. He wasnt the most fluent or natural jumper but he'd keep battling all day for you. He did the run around before the start of the race and if you ask me he wasnt himself but they let him off anyway. Once the Gold Cup is won wouldnt you think that would be enough? Instead they unleashed him into that - you can make whatever safety changes you want to the course - that 4m 4f slog is still tough and the best of horses have been found out over those fences - im still baffled why they felt he needed to run in that and win it with the stats so far against him.

Outside of Sunnyhillboy, every other horse who finished in the top 1-10 were pretty much laid out for the race, it was largley the same last year and in recent years!

BT I absolutely agree. But I think the National Fences and the distance of the race itself are still the main issue. Every year we have the same sad cases which are lost in the 'fairytale' story of the winner. Its the most dangerous horse race in the world.

But what a tragedy for anyone who truly loves the thrill of racing. After watching such a battler as Synchronised get up that hill in Cheltenham to win arguably the greatest prize in the national hunt racing. To never watch such a champion again must leave horse racing people reevaluating the merits of the race.

Good info here from the BBC

To be honest Pi Patel, i've always been a follower of the Grand National - it is the greatest horse race in the world in terms of excitement and the likes of In Compliance have proved that the 100-1 shot can get a place just as Mon Mome proved that the 100-1 shot can win.

What beats belief is that the horse who beat the best chasers in the world in Cheltenham - was put forward for this race. Regardless of how well he was and what he was capable of - i still dont understand why it was necessary to run a horse who could have gone back to defend his Gold Cup in Cheltenham last year on merit in a race that has been cannon fodder for fallers etc. every year. Even is he didnt have to be put down, it risked a lot to his health to run him in an effective cavalry charge over the biggest obstacles in jump racing.

Its different for the Ballabriggs and Neptune Collognes - these horses were laid out for this race and prepared with it in mind. Their whole year including Cheltenham week when you mention Sunnyhillboy would have been with an eye on the Grand National - for Synchronised he would have been prepared for the GC!

Had sunnyhillboy ew and Neptune in a sweepstake so a good day. As for the distance and the fences and the fatalities, it all happens in the first mile. That's down to the sheer number of horses running as we saw at fence 4 or 5 on the first circuit.

The first circuit was tough to watch as there was scary looking falls at every fence almost. I'm not a big racing fan but i always enjoyed the Grand National and i was heartbroken to see a beautiful animal destroyed. Two horses also died last year, surely this is too much and any owner will have to take notice, something will have to be done,
I had sunnyhillboy backed 20 euro to win so i was also financially dissapointed, great finish from the winner to be fair.

I only watch one horserace per year and that is the grand national and its purely out of morbid curiosity to see how many horses fall.I suspect there are a fair few more like me

It has been widely reported by the media that both horses died because of falls at Beecher's which is totally untrue. Syncronized fell at Beecher's but got up and ran on and actually fell when loose which was when he suffered his injury. According To Pete was brought down by another horse that fell in front of him and had actually cleared the fence well. The media are reporting it in a sensationalist way because it sounds better than what actually happened

It was sad to see the two horses put down alright but that's the nature of the game. These horses are bred to race and there's no way of eliminating the risk involved. Deaths at the grand national are highlighted more due to the high interest in the race. A horse called gottany o's was put down earlier in the week at Aintree after breaking his leg coming round a turn and not a word was said about it. It's just another part of the sport albeit a not very nice one.

Got Seabass e/w at 22's myself so happy enough. Lovely Ride out of Katie Walsh and i reckon 3rd was the best she was going to get over 4 miles. Definitely going to keep following that combination.

In all fairness 4 deaths in 2 runnings of the race is unacceptable, i don't want it banned but something needs to be done to make it safer particularly at the start. The media is particularly interested because of the quality of synchronised and JP McManus but it doesn't change the facts.
