I think that in the near future kilkenny could have a serious rival to be the worst footballing team in the country.I saw waterford u21s get hammered by kerry last week and once again tonight they were shocking in the minor vs clare. They could hardly put 4 or 5 passes together in the two games and I didn't even see 1 stand out player between their two games. The future of waterford football looks very bleak

Good news for Waterford hurling.
Meanwhile KK the big winners in the Tipp v Kerry minor football match today. Must be rubbing their hands in glee with the success of Tipp football.

Agree.Monaghan football had a huge boost during the week and fair play to them no point in them wasting their time with hurling and taking away from their footballers. The sooner more counties take Monaghans attitude the better the footbal championship will be

Really disappointing result but no surprise unfortunately. I think there is a real possibility that we will join kilkenny in footballs backwater. This IMO is a far more disgraceful situation than either Kilkenny football or Monaghan hurling as we've a long footballing history with many clubs who were more football orientated than hurlIng. This is being eroded and it's a crying shame.

Dungarvan. It's been a few years since I lived there though. We're a mirror image of the county I think.

Its called lazy organization lads, simple.
If a county puts structures in place then they see results, not straight away mind but in time. Hurling in Kildare is starting a revival, Armagh also and Tipperary in the Football code.
It needs work, Waterford if they work on this issue now should hopefully not drop to KK levels.

They won't though, our county secretary (a staunch football man) suggested we might have to pull out of underage football!!!!! I know money is tight but to talk about throwing the towel in is a disgrace and is no way to show leadership.

Ah good man, had many good battles with ye and had the pleasure of playing with a few Nire lads with the county. I'm not sure why we are allowing ourselves to fall so far or who is pushing this agenda.

Wouldn't all this talk of lack of money make you sick lads!
The Association can haunt County managers for getting expenses etc, yet County Boards can consider dropping teams from Inter County competitions? Fcuk me but O'Neill has a lot of work to do.
Something is very wrong in WD if money is that tight, ye bring serious support to so many games and make the Association plenty of money doing so. The GAA should be willing to help now imo.

Yeah played under Timmy and have a lot of time for him, thought he would have been a good football appoinment but not the case. He's Bean counter by trade after all!
One of our own club men who's cut a career with the board hates football with a vengenance. He never played either game of course.
I can see the hurling point of view, small county better to concentrate on top game, small pick etc, Shane and Brick Walsh are the two stand out footballers in county as you probably. Two penders were useful also.
Did you win a few medals with Dungarvan yourself?

Yeah, I won a few minor and senior medals, lost 2 senior football finals to your lads though. I've no problem with prioritising hurling either but we always had a decent local football scene even if it rarely showed at national level so why do we need to destroy that for IC hurling glory?? Brick and Shane are surely proof that you can play football and still excel at hurling?

I agree with you, I played nearly all football over the years.
The biggest problem is all club hurling and football are treated like s**te at the altar of IC hurling. Davy even brought the two aforementioned lads to a county board meeting to get a football club games off last year. The lads didn't know what meeting was about till they were in it!
We only bet ye once in a final.... a wet day in Cappaquin!
Ye had a savage team in fairness, PP, Pele, John John, the two Lyons etc. Had a few good drinks with them later on in the 90's.
PP was class in fairness

As a matter of interest ollscoil, how many underage hurlings did Dungarvan win compared to football at your age?
And moving on we'll throw in Abbeyside/Ballinacourty!!
So tell me what was the easier option, win a superficial football county in a hurling county or really knuckle down and win somethig that's worth winning, i.e a hurling senior championship medal in a recognised hurling county!!
Dungarvan have been a joke of a club for 50 years, never offering anything to the county jersey!!
So enough crying into your emigrant pint and let the real communnties and clubs in waterford deliver the goods!!
Jesus from the west alone Tallow, Ballyduff, Lismore, Shamrocks, Tourin, Ardmore, Fourmilewater, Sliabh gCua, Stradbally, Colligan, Geraldines, to just mention some of the smaller clubs, have have offered more to the Waterford hurling jersy than the high stool merchants in the "old boro", the biggest population stronghold outside of the city, have!!!
Get real!!!

Ye beat us in two finals KW, that awful day in cappoquin as we searched for 4 in a row and a few years later in the fraher field in a poor game, I think it finished 11 - 4. I agree, both codes are suffering at club level due to senior hurling and it's about time that was addressed though I won't be holding my breath.
Yeah, we had some right players then, as did ye. We had some right battles and I made some good friends from the Nire even if we boxed the heads of each other once an O'Neills came into sight!!

What a bucket of s**te!! Dungarvan had two groups of talented players around that time the first who the double minor football and hurling, the second group won 2 minor footballs and narrowly lost western finals to lismore. From those minor teams the 3 in a row football team emerged. It's your footballing mirror image that has hurling as it is in the likes of Monaghan. If you could take your head out of your ass for 5 minutes you might be able to see sport for what it is.

Is there many dual clubs in Waterford, that put in good effort at both or where you have 2 clubs side by side that almost act as a dual club

There used to be but I'm not sure anymore. A lot of football clubs put a good deal more effort into hurling than they used to but hurling clubs seem to be going the opposite direction. I don't live in Waterford now so maybe one of the sensible Waterford lads might be able to say more.

I am confused by your post, arkle and I can't decide whether you are a WUM or an idiot. I doubt if anyone in Kilkenny has the slighest interest in the result of the match in Tralee last night. Say what you like it was a proud night for all Tipp people who were in Austin Stack Park, but as a Tipp man I am sorry to see Waterford underage football being allowed to get into such poor shape.

You do know that there is more to the GAA than winning intercounty all ireland and trying to impress a bunch of fellas from Kilkenny.Cop yourself on.

The Waterford team did not suffer from lack of preparation with people such as Jason Ryan and Alan? Lotty from Cork brought in to help out. Most of the players are under age next year.

what KK think about it is their own business. But Tipp must put in their best effort at both codes as befits the county where the GAA was founded. Tipp cant shirk that responsibility.
Neither will waterford I reckon. Waterford have a good record in promoting both codes, a true GAA county.
