Morning Ireland did an excellent piece on the growing gaelic football clubs in Central and Eastern Europe (Warsaw, Vienna, Prague, Bratislava and Munich) earlier today.

Congratulations to Warsaw, who beat Vienna Gaels in the final and also ran an excellent tournament. Also congratulations to Munich Colmcilles, who won the ladies' tournament without fielding a single Irish player.

Great to hear about this kind of thing and all the better when you see a team made up of non Irish players being successful. Huge effort being made by the Irish community abroad but we get little help from Croke Park and there's certainly no plan. Nevertheless a lot is still getting done and we should continue to see success stories like this.

I thought this going to be an anti soccer thread when I saw the title.

Interesting thing about that Munich side is that they were originally a soccer team who saw a gaelic football match and decided that they wanted to have a go. Obviously that was a good decision! It goes to show that we can grow our games with the right promotion.

Was wondering the same. Think inbetweeners thought "Morning Ireland Piece on Central and Eastern European Regional Tournament" referred to a piece on Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. Gave me a chuckle.

Heard it myself this morning. Great to see success stories like the Munich woman's team especially. Shame to hear that these clubs aren't getting the support they deserve from Croke Park? Why is this? Remember hearing a theory (probably on here admittedly)that it was a fear of suffering a similar fate to the English F.A. ie losing control of the organisation to an international body. Seems pretty sensationalist to me.

Womens Final

•Cumann Warszawa(M) 3-3 vs Vienna Gaels (M)0-3
Mens Final

Munich took the women's cup and Warsaw won the mens.

The day was fantastic despite the wet start and the passion and skill on the pitch, even after traveling through the night for some teams, was a testament to the commitment that these clubs and individual players have to the sport of Gaelic Football.

The matches were hard won and after a long day of grueling sport, everyone made it out to Jimmy Bradleys Irish bar, in Warsaw for the presentations of the cups and after party.

The Irish Ambassador to Poland-Eugene Hutchinson - did the club the honour of presenting the winners trophies to Cumann Warszawa Captain Eoin Vaughan and Munich Captain Angela Buechler.

Referee for the day Tom McGrath presented Mens Best Player to Warsaw's Paddy Thompson, and Womens Best Player was presented by Matty Morris to Munich's Susanne Schwalb.

We were delighted to host such an amazing group of sports people and thank each team- Prague Hibernians, Munich Colmcilles, Slovak Shamrocks, Vienna Gaels and of course our own players in Cumann Warszawa and sponsors for coming along and making the whole thing possible.
