Banty got 31 votes. He needed 25... so he stays. Meath football descends from tragedy into farce.

Even though he lost the vote 43 to 31?

The players have been very quiet in this whole process anybody know how they view him .Cant see why he would be bothered staying considering the way he has been treated by the county board in Meath

That's what I was thinking-why would Banty stay there after all this carry on? The only sure thing after a vote like that is that this is not the end of this matter-expect more bullsh1t and shenanigans in the coming weeks.

They needed a 2/3 majority to get rid of him

I've always wondered about that system.

Does this leave Seán Boylan rather exposed?

I'm happy for Meath to leave Banty in place, a total bluffer.
Even though the majority in Meath want him out, he still clings on, anything to get his mush in the news.
I nearly feel sorry for Meath at this stage

It will be a strange situation if he stays having lost a vote.

In previous disputes Justin McCarthy, Teddy Holland and Gerald McCarthy were never in negative equity where voting was concerned, though Holland might have been voted out for a finish. McEneaney is in Negative Equity. If he has any sense he will walk now.

Why would anyone stay on in a different county with so much of a heave against him. I dont particularly have any fondness for Val Andrews but at least he walked.

I think the players made their feelings know with their farcical performance against Louth. It was a concerted effort to oust Banty. If they had taken a hiding like that against Kerry, Dublin, Cork etc they might have had some excuse, but to lose in that manner, to a Louth team that they would be at the very least on a par with, can only indicate they threw the match to draw attention to their dissatisfaction with the manager.

Banty survives as Meath Manager after getting 31 votes from delegates tonight. 43 delegates voted to remove him but he survives on the 2-thirds rule

He'll surely leave after seeing the majority at the vote want him out, might not be the 2 thirds required but its hardly an ideal situation for a manager.

Well it’s a big kick in the nuts for the county board who felt like they had to act in the aftermath of the relegation but now find themselves left with the status quo. As for Banty, it is a victory of sorts and he will lead Meath into the Leinster championship but you would wonder how comfortable he is given he didn’t win the popular vote. The best he can hope for now is return to respectability and have a decent enough championship run, possibly to Round 4 qualifiers or quarters at best. Then he can consider his position and leave on his own terms should he wish. An early exit and were back to square one, but if that does happen I hope a long term replacement is lined up like Gerry McEntee and not going cap in hand to Boylan to sort things out. As for Boylan it appears he is still in charge of football development and I wish him the best of luck doing that.

If the players want him to remain at the helm, that should be enough for him to stay. If they've lost faith in him, then his position becomes untenable.
In fairness, the CB need to have a proper look at themselves regarding all this. It wasn't exactly a state secret at the time of his appointment that an outsider wasn't wanted.

The problems in Meath football go alot further than Banty, if the Trevor Giles article in yesterdays or Tuesdays Examiner is anything to go by.

Thought Giles's article was excellent - not only for his analysis for what's wrong in the county but also for his point that at this stage, if the players are (mostly) behind him and the vote goes his way, everyone should pull together. But also that the standard of coaching and the level of activity (13 a side u21 matches)in Meath obviously needs serious attention. I'm a Kildare refugee living in Mee-ad so there's a certain element of schadenfreude given all the heartache dished up by the Royals over the years - have to say though, I'd have the height of respect for a fella like Giles. They could do worse than give him the gig. could never understand why Colm O'Rourke didn't go forward either.

Presuming that the Executive (15 votes I think) would have voted against Banty, it would appear that a slight majority of the clubs delegates voted for him. This may well have been an anti executive vote, but Banty still has decent support from the clubs. As far as Sean Boylan being Director of Football and Manager of the Senior Football team, Croke Park has already vetoed this in the case of John Evans in Tipperary 2 years ago. IMO Christy Cooney & Co. made a bad call in the Tipperary case, but that is their position and I presume that it would apply to Meath and Sean Boylan as well. It is a bit of a mess, but the County Executive cam e out of last night's meeting in a worse light than Banty.

Its been an eventful time for this McEnaney character and not just on the Gah scene.

___________________________________________________

Well-known former manager of the Monaghan county team, and current Meath GAA football manager, Seamus “Banty” McEnaney has had a High Court judgement of €13.49 million registered against him in favour of Allied Irish Banks.

Last Thursday’s Irish Times reported that Pilerp Ltd, a development company in which Mr McEnaney had a one-third share, had gone into receivership.

The company had been involved in developing apartments at The Diamond, Monaghan Town. But on 13th December last, AIB appointed Martin Ferris of Ferris & Associates as receiver.
The registered address of Pilerp Ltd has been given as Westenra Arms Hotel, The Diamond, Monaghan. The hotel is owned by the McEnaney family with Seamus listed as one of its directors. He also has an involvement in running the Fiddlers Elbow pub and restaurant in Carrickmacross.

The Irish Times also reports a judgment of €9.7 million registered by AIB against Thomas McEnaney of Carrickmacross, and two further judgments of €1.25 million each against Frank and Pat McEnaney.
