i was at the first round of the junior b hurling league in clare last friday nite between shannon siders wolfe tones against clarecastle. both teams were out on the field ready to go but no sign of a referee? now the game was delayed but still no ref. then what i have found out was that the clarecastle manager refed the game. poorly for both sides, with 40 frees at least been given.
can someone tell me how for a league match was no referee or linesmen present. wolfe tones were not happy with the desions made by the ref clearly given advantage to the home side although giving frees against his team aswel.

It's always home refs in Junior B league both football and hurling in Clare - it's a joke but that's the way it is.

Junior B league is always home ref.
In fairness it's an accident waiting to happen, how many games end up being reffed by someone who isn't a 'proper' ref.
What's the story then insurance wise if a player gets injured in a game that's being officiated by a fella simply 'filling in'???

Lost count of the number of times at home when I'd ramble down to a juvenile or junior match and get roped into doing linesman or umpire.

even that , i think there was only 1 umpire in the first and second half. i hate to see it but plenty away teams are always ----ed out of a match cause of no offical ref showing up

are ye serious that the home team refs the game for junior B in clare????
thats insanity. surely to god there are enough refs in the county to sort that debacle out?
we are told here that we cannot have even a challenge match without a referee who is on the official referee list with the county board.
id imagine insurance isnt considered a big deal in clare then?
can anyone ref these games or does the ref have to be a fully fledged ref with courses done and all?
yer county board seem to need a kick up the hole...

ha ha, some junior B games would have a total of two whistles; one at half time and one to wrap it up. In between no frees no sidelines and free flowing hurling. Pull first time, none of trying to rise it in a bunch of 5 players thats slowing down higher grade hurling.

Saw some very funny things at junior B matches at home when I was living there and growing up. One team was stuck for alds one day and some fella who came to the game as a spectator was asked to tog. I suppose the excitement got the better of him and the team were already gone out on to the field and the enxt thing he took the field with no togs on. He had to go back in and put on a pair of togs and he was half way down the field before he realised his predicament. Another lad one day was lert out again due to numbers and within 5 minutes of the start of the match he had managed to cut the top of bis boot off with a rather awkward flake of a hurl. Lads geting sick early in the year when numbers were short was another common sight. One day in a one sided game, I saw the goalkeeper, full back and full forward down beside the goal all smoking, the ball hadnt come down their way in ages.

To avoid the whole sticky home ref situation, we usually get a ref from Beagh in Sth Galway to come down ref our home games instead of picking someone out of the stand to do it.

I got a few sympathy minutes in a championship game we were winning well a couple of years back. It was a cold day and I got so excited i clattered out onto the pitch and then realised my helmet was a bit tight as I had a big oul handknitted taecosy the ma had given me for christmes still on the head. The lads who saw it found it awfully funny.

it is true for junior b hurling and football leasgue matches.
home team to provide referee normally they would get a referee from nearby club. but if no offical ref present then CLUBS SHOULD GO HOME. as if someone injuried they are not covered by insurance. anyway it is clubs owm fault as this issue was on clare gaa annual convention motions a few years ago and the mushroom head delegates at convention failed to pass motion so if clubs have problem blame it on your delegates.
