According to Hoganstand.com

The main terrace at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise will be closed for Saturday's double-header which features the Allianz Hurling League Division 1A relegation playoff replay between Dublin and Galway, and the Cadbury All-Ireland U21FC semi-final between Dublin and Cork.

Work on barriers is ongoing as a result of the Slattery Report on GAA grounds, which called for health and safety improvements at many provincial venues across the country.

As a result, patrons will have to use the stand or the terraces behind the goals for the attractive double-header.

Surely these matches should be moved to Tullamore as a result? I know the pitch wasn't perfect for hurling on Sunday but having a full side terrace unavailable for two games likes these is farcical. Actually the more I think about it the more the GAA is really treating the fan with contempt in this instance. Lots of people hate watching games from behind the goals and stand tickets could be hard got now for Saturday.

I don't believe there will be much of a crowd from Dublin on Saturday. For a start some people will be working. Also there is a full slate of U13, U/14 and U/16 football games at 3.30 p.m. in Dublin on Saturday including the first round of the U/16 football championship and these games are not going to be postponed apparently. Add in live TV coverage of both games and I don't see capacity as being an issue.

Nor should they be-why would you postpone underage championship games for a Senior intercounty league match?

I would've thought the attendance for these matches would comfortably fit into 1 stand in O'Moore Park?

I presume it's more the u21 football he was referring to moreso than the hurling. Obviously you're right they shouldn't be called off and knowing D2's previous form re club fixtures I'm sure he'd agree.

John Cleary, the Cork u21 manager isn't overly pleased about the venue either judging by coments in today's Examiner.

Under no circumstances would I postpone the games. But nothing would surprise you sometimes with fixtures committees.

I certainly wouldn't have the game back in Tullamore. The pitch was a wreck last week.

Move the u21 football match to Thurles on Sunday as a double header with the league hurling semi final perhaps...
