The Ipsos/MRBI poll, published in today's Irish Times, indicates that support for Labour is down six points to 13%, while Fine Gael is down three to 33%.

Fianna Fáil is down one to 14%, and Sinn Féin is up six points to 21%, putting it in second place.

Independents and others are also up, by four points, to 19%.

---------------------------------------------

Interesting times ahead?

SF have been polling well consistently now for the last year, they along with the Independents are effectively the opposition , FF are irrelevant now.

And with their new blood such as Pierce Doherty and Mary Lou rising up and have no baggage of the past with them and the old faces fading away and a couple of more austerity budgets to come , they will be in prime position to capitalise on this.

Can't understand why Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness (tried) got involved in Politics down here, SF would certainly be higher in the polls if they weren't involved.

Opinion polls between elections are pretty meaningless.

Most of Sinn Fein's potential voters will be too stoned to find the polling station anyway
Sinn Fein appeal to those who haven't got a clue what is going on but love to give out at every opportunity, we all know loads of them, they will be found out big time if they ever have to make any real decisions.

The economic meltdown in Eire was bound to mean more support for a fascist party like Sinn Fein/IRA.

But if they set up a tent in Galway I'd say it would be full all the same!

And whats worse is that SF voters are unable to transfer votes given that they are only able to write an X.

The electoral system in the 26 Counties is PR-STV so numbers as opposed to an X are used. In the 6 Counties they use a First Past the Post electoral system for the elections to Westminister, in that system one does use an X but it is not possible to transfer.

I hope that clears up the confusion.

Gas, isn't it? I love it when these polls come out and lad think they can predict the future by saying wait till the 'Shinners' are in power and they have to make a real decision. All I know is this. Compared to the present crop of idiots, traitors and champagne socialists anything is worth a shot, metaphorically speaking of course. Delighted to see the usual suspect come on here to throw out the usual tired cliches, well done lads nothing new for you.

Isn't it a blessing then that we've FG/Labour to guide us? Or should we have let FF remain to pursue its particular economic policies?

So we know what SF are against (well down here in the Republic, they're implementing the same things up North they decry as evil down here), but what are they for. They wanted at the last election to do away with the EU/IMF terms and bailout but wouldn't say where they'd get the cash to run the country on a day to day basis...........all this without cutting any services of course. On social justice we say them trying to talk out of both sides of their mouth on the private members motion last night saying that they all don't support abortion in any shape or form but they'd vote for the bill. (wtf?) Then to see them trying to take the moral high ground on political corruption while North and South their parliamentarians are making off with ink at massive cost to us, the tax payer. Not to mention the fact that they don't take their seats in Westminster however all their MP's claim full expenses for the sitting days of the House of Commons. I mean, yeah other parties have their problems, but people actually thinking that this crowd of liars and gunmen are a credible alternative genuine scares me.

Today the traitors voted through the fiscal compact despite the people of the country not being given their right to vote on this. Tin-Pot Republic.

No they didn't. They passed a bill today which allows for a referendum. ie: they voted today to give the people their say today.

So are you going to try and paint me in the same light as those two crooks as a way of escaping the horrible truth I pointed out in my post or have you an actual rebuttal????

I agree that SF are completely two-faced and will spew any populist guff to get votes but I suppose FG and Labour did the same before the last election with their empty promises.

I do think though that SF will gain a lot of seats in the next election, perhaps even double them. The main reason for this is that there is no credible alternative. I think the electorate will punish FG & Lab for the austerity no matter who is to blame. I think many of those FG/Lab seats are very fickle/tenuous anyway. FF will gain a few more seats but hopefully not many. Who else is there? With FG/Lab losing and FF static, SF can only but win unless we elect even more Independents.

What I want is a new political party. I am surprised it hasn't happened already.

To label an entire political organisation as 'liars and gunmen' is a reasonable argument?? You are doing a good job of painting yourself as a blinkered bigotted buffoon...no rebuttal neccessary. So......Pee or Bertie?

Well it won't just happen. You want a new, then start one.
