Galway 4th - are you having a laugh? They are 6th at best, maybe 7th. What are you basing this on, current form or future prospects? Antrim finished ahead of Wexford in the league and just a point off Offaly and that was without their Loughgeil players.

Whilst I'm obviously delighted at Cork's league form and the optimism/confidence that JBM has restored to Cork hurling, it should also be remembered that Cork reached a league final in 2010 after beating KK and Tipp and Cork ended up on the end of a hammering at the hands of KK in August.

Let's not lose the run of ourselves yet!

Exactly.

Work in progress. Let's not forget Dublin, who were relegated yesterday, probably should have beaten us a few weeks ago and Galway did beat us down in PUC.
Can't see us going down to any team the way we did to KK in 2010 or Galway last year but equally there are probably five or six teams that could have the beating of Cork on a given day.

It's all very close after Kilkenny. If they would just come back into the pack a bit the championship would be a mouth watering prospect. as it stands it's hard to see anyone beating them come championship but it might happen.

The above would be more like it alright. Wexford are going a bit backwards. We can't push Cork up the list just yet, not based on one good performance. Offaly were flattered the night they beat Limerick by so many goals/chances being leaked on our part.

If I had to make one change on the above for argument sake it'd be Clare and Galway being switched. Clare have genuinely improved a lot this year. They destroyed Limerick around the middle and under high ball (albeit after after Breen and Moran went off), but particularily Cian Dillon taking control of 3 where (i reckon) the crux of their problems were last year, while Galway I fear are up to old tricks, showing glimpses of something they rarely produce come championship.

And I wouldn't disagree with you on that. That's why I said in my 1st paragraph that Galway were at best 6th or 7th. Was thinking yesterday after the KK v Clare game that I'd like to see Galway meet Clare in the championship to see just where both teams stand at the moment.

Difficult to give any definitive rankings at this time of year. Yes Clare won Div 1B comfortably enough but KK were only in 2nd gear yesterday beating them by 9 points so you would have to question the calibre of teams in Div 1B.

It's April, hardly a ball struck in anger and we have a thread about hurling ratings at present. Are the kids off school or something? Maybe AFR could have a separate junior section for the kids so that they could do their posting there.

Kilkenny are out on their own right now. Tipp seem to have come back to the pack a little without Lar's constant goal threat in their side. As for the rest I honestly feel there is little enough between most of them. Ranking one above another is a bit pointless at the moment.

As for Galway the league was up and down. In fairness they probably had the hardest schedule of anyone (especially with such a young side) with away games against Kilkenny, Cork and Tipp. Beat Cork, lost a very tight game to Tipp and got trounced by Kilkenny. Drew with and beat Dublin twice and lost narrowly at home to Waterford.

Agreed.

Kilkenny are the All-Ireland champions, so they're number one. Everyone else is nowhere.

Ah it's just a harmless bit of debate to get people's thoughts on how the year has gone.

I suppose I'd go for:
1:Kilkenny
2: Tipp
3. Cork
4. Galway
5. Waterford
6. Dublin
7. Clare
8. Limerick
9. Offaly
10. Antrim
11. Wexford
12. Laois.

There's very little between 4 and 7 and I just put Galway 4th because they picked up 2 wins in the league and had a very good performance against Dublin at the weekend. But if we had to play Cork, Dublin, Waterford or Clare in the championship it would be virtually even money I think.

If Dublin got a full hand to pick from I'd have them as best placed to challenge Kilkenny as they are so physical, fit and organised.

Tipp have lost their explosive goal threat, Shane McGrath's form and are missing a quality half back. Cork could easily overtake them.

If Mullane is on fire ya never know what Waterford are capable of

Galway & Clare still a bit green. Limerick look poorly prepared

Maybe based on league form Kilkenny and Cork are there on merit. Early days yet, the way i see it Kilkenny still out on their own and the team to beat. I still see Tipp as their nearest challengers. As for my own team Cork, they have pleasantly surprised me so far, staying up seemed to be the general consensus at the start of the league and now here we are contesting a league final( i know its been reference we did same in 2010 reaching a league final but the hurling and players playing and the method with which we are playing now are a million miles from DW outfit in 2010)

Im confident we can give the championship a good lash.

I think you must be redlead in disguise. Putting Galway down in 7th after beating Clare by 17 points and Cork by 10 points last year in the championship and Dublin by 7 points in the league and 14 points in a vital relegation battle at the weekend is a bit rich in fairness no matter how anti Galway you feel!

To me the game that had most intensity and was closest to championship hurling at the weekend was the Galway / Dublin game. Was not impressed with any of the teams in the other semifinal matches particularly Tipp and Clare.

What teams are in both divisions next year?

Am I right in the following?...

Dvision 1
Kilkenny
Cork
Tipp
Waterford
Galway
Clare

Division 1B
Dublin
Limerick
Wexford
Offaly
Antrim
Laois

If that is the case I can't see what Dublins gripe with the set-up is. They lost all their games...

Limerick, Wexford & Offaly won't be afraid of them. Antrim beat them in the championship 2 years ago. Where is the problem?

I woudlnt say the quality was that great in the Dublin v Galway match, it was exciting alright as it was a play off for relegation and a replay.

I would agree with these rankings on this end of the scale.

Is there going to (finally) be a relegation from the Liam McCarthy this year or are they going to keep promoting Chrisy Ring winners until there are 32 counties competing in the Liam McCarthy Cup?
