The scenes at Thurles yesterday were an absolute disgrace. The GAA handled the situation very poorly. Everybody was raging. Did any of ye see the size of the queue to purchase the tickets? and the tickets took at least 5 minutes to print off. One Thing i was so shocked about was the OAP/STUDENT thing...I myself am a student and only had 15 euro on me at the time...the person in the ticket box told me that the ticket costs 20 euro here and u will be refunded 10 euro at the turnstile when u show your student card. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THAT? I told him that i only had 15 euro and showed my student card so could i just pay the 10 euro here instead of paying the 20 euro(which i did not have) and getting refunded 10 euro at the turnstile. I was told no and to leave semple stadium if i do not have the sufficient funds. I said ***K dat and left the queue. What did i do then? i pretended to be a juvenile(i am 21 years old) and i only paid a fiver...so the GAA can suck my ****.

The GAA is an amateur association and this can be seen in the amateurish nature of its organisers.

We should not be surprised.

I can't get my head around what happened in Thurles yesterday. Semple Stadium has a capacity of over 50,000. The attendance yesterday was 15,000 odd. Who was the genius that decided to have this an all ticket match. If cash was being taken for admission to the stands there would have been no problem. Tipperary PRO Ger Ryan was on radio earlier this evening (on Tipp FM) trying to explain what happened. I suppose he was trying to make the best of a bad case. Maybe I am being unfair to him, but the message I was getting from him was that the delay was because people did not buy their tickets during the week or did not go to Thurles in time. He did admit to a problem with some of the printing machines, but took very little blame on behalf of Semple Stadium or Tipp County Board. Neither did he take on board the point the radio presenter made that many people would not decide to go to the match until the morning of the game and so would not be buying tickets during the week, when the ground was going to be less than 30% full. Apart from Croke Park, no venue has as much experience of big games as Semple Stadium and there is no justification for any problems with a 15,000 crowd.

In tullamore last week for dublin galway it was 15 euro into either the terrace or the stand. Many people let it be known that the terrace should have been cheaper.

why didnt they just take the money at the turnstiles instead of havin to purchase a ticket? wud hav made alot more sense...but remember, we are talkin about the 'smart' GAA here and what they do is 'aaaaaalways' right.

The days of the terrace being cheaper are over for a lot of games with low attendances. You pay the rate for the stand, and if you then wish to go out into the terrace its your own choice.

Sounds like a lot of people were casual going to the game, but in fairness they should have been able to cope with a backlog of tickets. I cant figure out why they dont take cash on the turnstiles for games where attendances wont be that big.

I drove in the Holycross road and duly passed the Garda at the roundabout, i could not believe the length of the queues waiting at the Dr Morris field entrance.
Luckily for me i knew there was a small ticket office in the back field at the rear of the Town end terrace. I got the tickets straight away and was in.
I noticed some KK fans only arrived into the Stadium at half time of the first game and they were pretty p*ssed off and rightly so.

There were 2 main issues that caused the problem, the GAA did not properly advertise during last week that tickets would be needed for entry. Secondly, no stewards made any attempt to move the big crowd down to the ticket booths at the rear of the Town terrace.

Considering the weather a pretty poor showing by all involved!

One of the things that started annoying me about Thurles was the lack of an ATM out near the grounds. Must make a mental note to bring enough money with next time as there is nothing more annoying than parking in the field and then having to trek into town to get money out, which I've let happen to me a few few times in the last couple of years. I guess I'm used to the handiness of the one across the road from the Gaelic Grounds.

The latest effort is that they you a cloakroom ticket... or half a ticket in the case of some officials.

Thi seems to be the situation in Tullamore. In every other ground I have been in the terrace is cheaper but at all the recent matches I have went to in Tullamore the terrace is inexplicably the same price as the stand

Well Ger Ryan is talking through his hole if that is what he said. I was there at 1PM, an hour before throw-in, and it was chaos at that stage. One van had a sign up 'Tickets on sale here' and of course there was a big queue at it with people being directed to it by the stewards, turns out tickets weren't on sale there, only season ticket holders could get them there. Then those people had to join the other queue and stand watching their tickets being printed when they eventually got to the head of the queue. The queue was back out the gate at that stage. One steward had a bit of cop-on and saw how serious the situation was getting, he got a Garda to ask people to go around the back (presumably to where carryharry got his tickets) 'Ah cmon now lads...' but people were reluctant to believe that they wouldn't be hit with a queue when they got around there so most stood their ground. A complete and utter shambles, and it's pretty outrageous for any official to try to blame the supporters, the blame lies four square with the officials (not sure whether that's the GAA, Tipp Co Board, or Semple stadium).

Blame lays firmly with the GAA marketing and press offices, i saw nothing during last week stating tickets were required for entry.

I would say that the Tipperary Co Board were poorly prepared and so blame would be correctly laid there as well.

There must have 40+ people queued up at back of new stand looking for chips and burgers after 1st match, there was one girl cooking and 1 girl serving - they were in total panic as she didnt know who to serve next and she had no change for people ffs!..she didnt even have euro coins in the til...you couldnt make it up - at one stage she was firing grub out just to get people away from the queue.

I arrived at 1.30pm and the queue was about 80 mts long with a couple of hundred people in it. They were trying to encourage people to go to other side of grounds to access ticket vans there..God only knows what would have happened if another 10k turned up.

Spot on carryharry, I arrived there yesterday expecting that I would be paying my €20 at the stiles in the same way that I had paid cash into the other league games I was at. I haven't been listening to every sports bulletin in the last week but I had heard nothing about it and tbh I didn't go looking for it.

I can't remember ever needing a ticket for any league final i have attended.
Some bright sparks in HQ i tell ye.

If you run early rounds of the league paying cash then why change?

I heard some people took off drowned wet and watched the game in pubs in Thurles.

The League final in Limerick against Clare had cash at the turnstiles. Last years League final in Ennis had tickets allright, but they sell tickets from windows for most games in Ennis

That business of paying €20 for a €10 ticket and being refunded €10 at the stiles is the most stupid thing I ever heard. I remember all too well being a student and liquidity problems were bad enough besides Thurlus carrying on with that kind of rubbish. I don't see what the point of it was at all?? Why couldn't the people in the ticket box AND on the stiles check for student cards? That way no one gets in illegitimately and no one has to temporarily pay twice the price. Classic GAA match carry on.

Thurles regularly make a mess of these situations.
I recall the farce 2 years ago in the league when the Kilkenny Tipp came was called off with the snow.

They can do what they want down there as just hours after this latest fiasco they're rewarded with hosting the league final.

This is not the first time I have seen Thurles messing around with Tickets have seen it a few times the stewards seem to make it up as they go along.

I have no issue with the not paying at the gate as I I have been in Thurles in the past when some totally hilarious attendance figures have been announced over the PA system at least having tickets printed Croke Park know exactly how many tickets were sold.

What does annoy me is that having made a total mess of last week they get rewarded with a League final to stage.
Aside from the mess up they made I think the semi-finals or Final should have been awarded to Nowlan Park seeing as Kilkenny topped the group their should be some extra advantage to winning your group stage also it would share some of the big matches around instead of them always going to Thurles.

Was under the Old Stand after the first match when the Cork team had to walk through a huge crowd of people. Don't know why it happened. It was actually hard to make your way through the crowd, it was so dense. I don't think they got much abuse, but it's far from an ideal build up to a big match.

Why can't people just take responsibility for their fcuk-up, we got it wrong, apologies, and we'll learn from our mistake,

Had to laugh this morning when I read that Paraic Duffy said that people should have gone to Superquin or Supervalue and bought the tickets there. Are they on drugs or something? Thurles wasnt eevn going to be 1/3 full, why not just pay at the gate and leave the tickets for Championship games. Its worse its getting. A total shambles from what i'm reading but is anyone surprised.
