Any fancies for the festival?. Surely Sizing Europe will bounce back to winning ways tomorrow and Sir Des Champs to show his class once again.

Sizing Europe has been beaten at the last three Punchestown Festivals. It'll take more than 1/2 to tempt me into thinking that he'll make it fourth time lucky at age 10. Plus there's the heavy ground to contend with. Himself and Big Zeb are pure fast ground horses.
Realt Dubh, on the other hand, has shown a liking for soft/heavy in the past, has age on his side, was the best Irish novice chaser last season and arrives here fresh. I'd be inclined to take his Cheltenham run with a pinch of salt. First run in 10 months, and the first thing he does is uproot the first! Jumped fine thereafter and Carberry nursed him hime in second last position. The trip is probably too short but the ground will take the sting out of SE and BZ.
In the other Grade Ones, Trifolium and Sir Des Champs look like an easy double for O'Leary. Although part of me thinks the ground might play havoc with the results this week.
So Realt Dubh only bet of the day. That's my tuppence worth.

Id be with you on that one Gorgeous George. He is 12/1
While i think Sizing will probably win this(dont think the ground will have much of an effect on him actually) i feel Realt Dubh has better place claims than Big Zeb.
Tomorrow isnt the best day for gambling looking at the card.
Might have a couple of small each way bets. Sir Des Champs should win and while i like Trifolium im not sure he'll take the honours.

I'll go with Trifolium. I'll also probably have a couple of small ew bets on a couple of outsiders in some of the other races , Spiker the Biker in the first and God's County / Leah Claire in the 4.55

I couldnt resist the 15/2 on Big Zeb -each way. They might have brought him to Punchestown to retire him but I'm fairly certain they didn't bring him to get disgraced.
Maybe a small saver on Gauvain at 22/1.

Sizing Europe has won 3-4 times on Heavy Ground at Punchestown, including Feb just gone. Having said that the odds aren't attractive.

Went with that esp cos PP were paying back if a Bolger horse won. He came nowhere & a Bolger horse didn't win!

Today looks dodge didn't do anything at all. Tomorrow in the big one, I really fancy Rubi Light. He was fifth at cheltenham but his form from the Lexus over 3m behind Syncronised is very strong. He seems to travel extremely well on softish ground and at 3/1 looks a great bet.

Realt Dubh might even have won had he jumped better. That'll be his undoing long term I think. He's a talented horse but that's the second or third time he's made some really obvious mistakes.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, the Bumper is a great little race. It's packed with potential superstars and no doubt, next winter 2 or 3 of them will have emerged as household names.
In the Gold Cup, I agree about Rubi Light. The ground will give him a huge advantage. Another one I like is Apt Approach. Remember when Cousin Vinny won the Cheltenham Bumper, Apt Approach was actually the supposed stable number one and was hailed as the second coming. I wonder will he ever deliver on that promise? Tomorrow he might get his turn.

Don't know how you could fancy Apt Approach to get near Rubi Light based on there meeting two runs back, but this is a funny old game and I'm no expert.
Another bet I'm going to do is a Willie Mullins e/w double with Sous Les Cieux and Champagne Fever. Mullins often dominants at this festival and a bit like Dermot Weld at Galway, if after a few days you haven't been backing their horses you are left scratching your head wondering, how?
Sous Les Cieux's fifth at cheltenham represents good form for this race in what looks like a poor enough grade 1. I would fear Jetson the most.
Champagne Fever ran a great race at cheltenham and has the second from that day re-opposing along with a few other unexposed horses like Fickle Fortune. He has a lot of weight but lets hope they both can at least make the frame. The double is 12/1.

Willie Mullins takes 4/5 races...pity I didnt have the two. At least they both placed for a very small return.
The weather really has been a let down this week unfortunately.

What are the thoughts on Quevega v Voler la Vedette. It's hard to oppose Quevega given her class but vLv had a super run behind Big Bucks who is on another planet, horses are judged on how close they finish to behind him at this stage, the result is a formality! I think Quevega personally
