If you've seen the papers since sunday you know what i mean. What do ye think, he refused to apologise anyway. What a grandstanding príck this guy is. I'm no churchgoer and i'm not religious in any way but i respect peoples right to believe what they want and i have respect for a good few Catholic clergy i have come across. He is a pain in the hole on this subject and should shut up.
I really fúcking hate that guy so much that i'm probably completely biased but what the hey.

The behaviour of some senior people with it the Catholic Church has been despicable in relation to the Child abuse scandal.
That said to tar the whole of the Catholic Church as "----ing up the country" is a complete untruth. He is only looking to bump up his profile. Kicking the Church usually works for that.
Never had any time for Darcy. His latest episode merley confirms it.

Yeah - you can be sure he'd never have a pop at the muslim religon re their treatment of women or a certain Irish indigenous group and their grá for the bit of crime.

I agree with you 100%. Darcy is a grade A Wanker. I have no doubt he sees himself and his radio show as a sort of alternative to God and the Catholic Church for the modern generation of Irish, where you can text in your problems / worries / fears and Ray Almighty will make them go away.
I'd almost prefer to have hot oil poured down my ears than have to listen to that show every morning, because not only have you Darcy, but you have another massively self important cúnt alongside him in Will Hanafin, not too mention the other two wagons who love nothing more than to talk complete and utter bollocks on subjects they know nothing about, but think they can get away it because they have sexy, half american sounding accents.

Got a great laugh out of that. That will put me me in good spirits for the second half of the day.

Ya, spot on...He'd shít his trousers if he upset the Muslim lads.
What's more, it's not like he is the first person to say something like this, sure lads below in the pub have been saying it for years...It's a pathetic attempt by Darcy to court 'controversy' and put himself back in the public eye, and sure hasn't it worked too with eejits like ourselves on here talking about the hateful little bollocks.

Why are the Church getting such a tizzy over it. This is the same distraction tactics from them that we saw last year when they complained about GAA games on early on a Sunday or something like that. I won’t hear a bad word about Ray, he entertained me for hours as a kid with Zig and Zag

No question but that Darcy is a prize arzehole, but there's also no question but that he's 100 per cent right.
The Catholic Church has fvcked up the country for years. Abuse, the Magdalen laundries, stymying the introduction of divorce, etc. Anyone who can't see that needs their head examined.
Even much of the good it did, i.e. education, was done with the aim of controlling how people were brought up.
That said, it's no different to how Islam has fvcked up much of north Africa, Arabia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

What was the alternative to the Magdalen laundries or the Industrial Schools ? - the nuns and the brothers were the only ones that wanted to know at the time. Society in general, including Government and the public failed the children that went to these places.
The abuse was carried out by a very small minority. There were many nuns, priests and brothers that gave their lives selflessly for the underpriviliged and the outcast and don't deserved to be tarred with the same brush.

Are you serious??? The church created & carefully maintained the stigma of having a child out of wedlock. What was the alternative to the Magdalen laundaries? Leave the poor women alone at home to have their children in peace & not have the children taken off them & be forced to work as slaves for years. That's the alternative.

And was it the same for the 'mentally handicapped' - those that had slight disabilities that were shipped into the mental asylums ?

I like Ray Darcy, and just regret the fact, that no one in a similiar position said the same on the air 25 years ago.Bishops and priests were treated, and acted like demi Gods in the Ireland I grew up in.Granted there were good men and women involved also, but the huge rates of physical and sexual abuse have resulted in the empty pews you see today.

I am sure there is probably a case to be made for and against his point but I am constantly amazed about the amount of vitriol D'arcy stirs up on this forum. I sometimes listen in for fix it Friday and would remember him for various gigs over the years , some good some bad mostly ok but Jesus he hardly deserves some of the stuff thrown at him here. Is he any more self important than Tom Dunne or Tubridy for example ? .

The Ireland I grew up in was a religious state in many respects, maybe not along the lines of Taleban Afghanistan but certainly a church state in spite of those who rebelled against it. I remember when the Life of Brian came out in England in 1980, it was banned in Ireland until 1987 or 1988. The church at the time was rife with all sorts of problems yet no one dared say anything. It was only really when these things came to light, starting with Bishop Casey's affair and love-child if I'm not wrong that the lid was blown off everything and the church cast aside (though that took ages surprisingly, pubs are still closed on Good Friay!). Cant imagine what it must have been like in the 40s, 50s and 60s - must have been like the middle ages in ways, the church dominating everything in every aspect of Irish life. The hypocacry of it drives me mad when I think of it - alcoholics with pioneer pins in the front pew, holier than thou women in the church pretending to be paragons of piety. God how I hated it when I grew up, yet at the same time found it sort of reassuring out of not knowing any better.

He's funny enough. If I see him on TV I think is grand. And any person that I have spoken to, that has spoken to him only has nice things to say about him.
But on the radio he is fair annoying. He reminds me of a modern day Mary Whitehouse, moral guardian for the people of modern Ireland.

there is no doubt that darcy is a gimp.. but the church has alot to answer for.. i grew up in the 80s and the hold the catholic chuch had was incredible.. its true the life of brian was bnanned. ridiculous.. the last of those magdalene houses only closed in the 70s.. so its not like we are talking hundreds of years either..i forget when you could buy condoms but thats a regular thing as well.. they would prefer if you got aids if you cannot abstain from having sex before you are married.. sex is strictly for procriation purposes.. meanwhile half of them are fondling kids and the other half know about it but keep quite.. if you believe in god thats fine but the catholic church and organised religion in general is a load of cobblers..

So much for freedom of speech. He should be criticised for using bad language but he has a right along with anyone else to say what he believes. The church did some positive things for this country but also a lot of negative's. Personally I have no time for the church and their backward theories and ideas. The most basic commandments of love thy neighbour etc. I can understand, but the rest of the bulls**t is a joke. The church has used its rules to guilt and humiliate people that were gay, had children outside of marriage or that didn't conform to their ideals. Most people feared the institution for years and look at the power and control they had. We were about twenty years behind the rest of the modern world in acceptance of people who were different up to a few years ago and since the wane of the churches influence on peoples beliefs I think we are more tolerant and liberal. But that is my opinion I have a right to voice it without rancour as does Ray D'Arcy.
