What a wonderful display of negative football last night by Donegal against the best team in the world Barcelona,They had only 20% of the play and down a man and stil won,Typical Donegal put every man inside their own square and invite their opponents on to them,They are lauded everywhere this morning for the wonderful DEFENSIVE display, and to think all last year they were ridiculed by everyone for doing exactly the same thing ? Now everyone in Europe will copy this wonderful Donegal blueprint,Jim Mc Guinness will be spoken in the same breath as Ferguson etc,Jim my friend what a monster have you inflicted on us,All Ireland Football final 2012. Donegal 2 goals. Cork 1 goal.

What do you expect Donegal or Chelsea to do when playing against superior and more skillful opposition?
turn up and get hammered for the sake of the game as a spectacle ?? Donegal didn't break any rules.Sure, its not pretty to a spectator but fcuk it, it got them within 70 minutes of an All-ireland final. Is it Donegal's fault that the skill level in football has gone so bad that very few footballers can kick a point from long distance??
Do you remember liveline( or was it Joe Duffy) about 5 years ago and people ringing in from mayo saying how embarrassing it was to get another walloping in all ireland final by kerry and how they'd never go watch mayo play again? the reason mayo got those beatings was because they were actually naive enough to think they could match kerry in an open game of football. You have to play to your strengths.
Chelsea got to the champs league final. Barca have no plan B and teams like Inter,United and now Chelsea have beaten them over 2 legs the exact same way.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Am i the only person alive who thinks that handpassing in football is great to watch? I think i must be. Like the lads above say, practise shooting from distance. There is nothing wrong with the way donegal play, and the dublin match was enthralling.

It doesn't say you have to watch it dry on the tin.

I thought so too. I thought it was very interesting to see how they went about it, it was certainly something different. Donegal got a hell of a lot further than most teams of their ability last year.
As for last night, fair play to chelsea. Some of the anti-defensive people need to cop on a bit. Why would chelsea go out and get the sh1t hammered out of them so as to make it a 'beautiful game' for the likes of the anorak cases who demand 8 goals from Barca. As for the assumption that 'every team in europe will be at it now'... hate to burst that bubble but since the dawn of time teams are going all out defensive as underdogs, only difference is nine times out of ten they'll concede in the first 10 minutes, then be forced to push forward, then get open up completely while Chelsea managed to hold out.
Long live the taliban defence I say :)

If you like handpassing in football you must think basketball is fantastic to watch.

The long range point kicking standards are pretty much the same as they ever were.More shots are taken from long range these days than there were in the past

This is complete rubbish.
As fitness levels have improved and concentration on defensive systems has increased, the amounts of space available for players to operate in in Gaelic Football have progressively declined. Yet the average scoring levels have if anything gone progressively upwards. This would not be the case if skill levels had declined. They have in fact gone up, and I would argue considerably so.
Look at a few matches and quickly realise you're talking misty-eyed rubbish.

teams being much fitter might have something to so with higher scores.Kildare are testament to the fact you can kick 20 wides and still have enough energy to kick 20 points . Also my point about long range point kicking is that teams like Donegal wouldn't be so effective if you had long range kickers because Donegal wouldn't be able concede much possession out the field like they do in order to get men to filter back.if opposition had fellas who could slot the ball over from distance donegals half forwads would have to stay nearer tot he middle of the park.
Wathc what kerry did to cork last time they met in all-ireland final.after getting up a lead they let cork have the ball out the field and cork had nobody to kick from distance so they kept trying to pick out the full forwatrd line but the area was totally crowded out
PS I'm only giving my opinion.you might need to go on an anger management course.
