End of an era.

All football fans can only thank him for his work.

He's had four great years. i'd like to see him stay on, I'm not sure his style is portable to other leagues/international teams.

Hopefully he'll stay on for one more year. If he brings in one top class player to freshen things up, they'd go close to a clean sweep of trophies next season. Somebody like Nigel de Jong would be a perfect acquisition for them, would you agree Jack?

i think they need strikers.. since david villa got injured they have been basically playing without one. a top class left back and central defender (to replace an aging puyol) wouldnt go astray either.

Ha funny and I agree. They are way too buisy now though meeting with their lawyers on whether or not they should shake one anothers hand. What a load of sihte they all are.Wait until their football skills are gone even the little bit those tools were gifted with and hear what they will have to put up with out in the real world.

Good thinking Pongo, De Jong would bring a bit of quality to Barca. The best player in the world at the best team in the world.

Spot on MM. According to a couple of the man city clowns around here, de jong has the football skills of paolo maldini and johann cruyff all wrapped in one.

How have Man city done overall this season in yer eyes lads - 2nd in prem league, out 1st hurdle champs league, out first hurdle fa cup, out 2nd hurdle uefa cup.. best run has been semi final loss in league cup to king kennys mighty army!! Utter failure of a season for man city supporters, no??

Funny how none of you lads want to talk about how I got it absolutely spot on about Barca, mm: you might want to check out my 'El Classico' thread from last Saturday to refresh your memory
(and you should also take time out to actually read what I said about de Jong, last August, rather than what face/CoT would have people believe I said)

Jimbo you are too modest. I always believed that De Jong was a poor mans Roy Keane. But you convinced me and perhaps COT that Nigel was the best player in the world.

Ha, ha, great one rebel!

Meanwhile let's all get our collective knickers in a twist about which of OUR English teams is better than the other in the English Premier League! Not to mention all the off-field antics, buyings and sellings, rumours and counter-rumours, statements and denials and every other little titbit that the English soccer marketing machine dictates we in Ireland should have an interest in so that we can remain true to ourselves and our pseudo-Britishness.

You couldn't make it up!

Funny how I haven't been able to convince myself of that, mm!

Now,...as for my prediction after Saturday's 'El Classico',....what say you?

What are you implying? That because you predicted the outcome of a game that you somehow have some kind of knowledge on it? You are pathetic.

On the topic to hand, I'm sure Guardiola will stay in the game. He needs a club that will allow him freedom and time to develop a team. He isn't great with the chequebook so he might need to go to a club with a young squad who can be developed. Arsenal are the obvious choice. If he went to Chelsea, he would have a youngish squad provided he dumped Terry, Lampard, Drogba etc. I would love to see him at Liverpool, but that wont happen, although they should go after him. You would assume that Mourinho is lined up for the Man Utd gig. Man City have the kind of players he could work with, but personally, I would hate to see him there. They dont deserve a manager like Enrique and the same could be said for Chelsea.

I wouldnt be surprised to see him end up at Roma. They brought in Luis Enrique to build a Barcelona type model and it hasnt worked out for him, but the club are eager to stick with their plan. You would guess that AC Milan would also be interested in him as would Paris St Germain.

I honestly think he will leave the game for a while at least. When you have been to the top of the mountain it must be very difficult to accept anything less. He recognises that this Barca team is done, Puyol is finished, they need to replace Abidal who was their best defender, Xavi is not the player he was nor is Iniesta. What Messi missed most over the past month or so was link up players to keep up with him but they are getting older and tired with the number of huge games. They will not be the same team again that they were, they will be good again but we will not see their like again perhaps for a long time.
He would be a great future United manager but doubt he would go to England.

I am going to make a bold call here but I think he will go to Arsenal next Year, Wenger's contract is up in 2013 and from Listening to a few people in various interviews who seem to know him well, they seem to think he will not extend it and either go upstairs, I think if Wenger told the Board that Pep was their Guy they would pull all the stops to get him.

I might just add Pep to his back room team with John Evans.

Apparently he has expressed a wish to manage in the (English) Premier League, even if not immediately

Messi, Xavi, Iniesta to Barry, Milner and De Jong...make you think, would it be a money or football decision, just can't make my mind up.

In fairness he was spot on lads, soccer is his thing!

He said Tipp would beat Cork by 6-7 points last week too but i don't hear him bleating on about that.

A pillar of modesty is our Jim!
