From front page of today's Examiner:

We want more babies but need a bigger council house’
By David Raleigh
Friday, April 27, 2012
An unemployed father of eight is demanding a bigger house from his local authority so he can have more children.
Jason Casey, who has been on a housing waiting list for 10 years, has staged a silent protest outside Limerick City Hall in Limerick for six weeks.

The 42-year-old, who lives in a three-bedroom home, said: "We have five girls in one room and two boys in the other room and we take the baby in with us.

"We manage, but we shouldn’t have to manage ... not when they [council] have so many houses out there — not when we have the regeneration, not when there’s Nama out there."

Mr Casey, from Glenbrook, Childers Rd, said he doesn’t mind some people saying he shouldn’t have had eight children if he couldn’t afford to house them. "The truth is, I love having babies and my wife loves having babies. I’ll keep having babies."

He said he was looking for a larger house in Garryowen, where five of his children go to school, but that Limerick City Council said it doesn’t have a larger house to give him. "Ten years on a housing list is long enough. The council are saying they don’t have a house for me. I’ve given up ringing them up. I get to speak to them every three months and the meeting lasts five minutes. They ask me my name and my address and how many kids I have and then I come out and I make another appointment."

Mr Casey said he was promised a larger house by the council five years ago.

"I started off 10 years ago when they [council] promised me a house in Garryowen in five years. I waited my five years and they said there was none available — at the time I think I had three kids. I said OK, and waited another six months for one of their appointments.

"I asked for my file under the Freedom of Information Act but most of my details were blacked out. I spoke to politicians about my case but nothing has happened. Enough is enough. Limerick City Council discriminates against large families.

"Our Constitution says that we, the people, are entitled to adequate housing, and that’s all I want."

He said he had tried to gain employment as a street hot dog vendor but was refused a licence to trade in the city centre. "I did try to start up my own business. The council gave me a licence to trade outside Thomond Park and then they banned us from trading there and moved us all down the road... we weren’t making a shilling there.

"Then I got a licence for the city market, but sure, who is going to eat a hot dog at 10 o’clock in the morning down in the market. So, I was going out [in the city] to catch people coming out of the nightclubs and the gardaí were coming up to me saying I had to move on because there’s no law.

"I should be a poster campaign for the council — a man with eight kids, off the dole — I’m costing the State more by being on the dole."

A spokesman for Limerick City Council said it doesn’t comment on individual cases.

More than 3,000 people are on its waiting list.

He would want to sell some amount of Hot Dogs to match the money he is getting off the welfare for 8 kids.

Out of curiosity I worked out he would be getting €14,736 per year in Children's allowance alone.
Everybody should be entitled to have as many kids as they want but not to be scrounging from the tax payer.
Wouldn't mind the Social Welfare gang undertaking a nutritional test on the kids.

That's seems to be the only answer in this country , you wonder how long before the copeing class's(as they call them these days) i.e. the average worker will take before breaking point is reached , they are subsidizing the pay for public servants who are ripping us off at the very top with ridiculous payoffs, pensions etc and are also subsidizing those who are milking the system on welfare.

A lot of these "copeing class's" are barely above water themselves financially ,if even threading water with big mortgages and are not immune from any of the state charges and are entitled to no help off the state on anything, but yet Work around the clock for their money just to exist at the moment.

NB, I am not taring all those on welfare as freeloaders , I realise any of us could be in that position , indeed the majority on welfare in Ireland at the moment have paid in a lot of money when they were in employment and deserve the help now.

But it is normally those who have never contributed and never have any attention of , who scream loudest about their right to claim every kind of benefit going and milk the system for all they can.

Vincent Browne normally interviews a few after every budget , kids hanging out of everywhere , never worked a day in their lives, medical card , house for almost nothing , handout money for communions , confirmations etc on every kind of benefit going and Sky TV of course, and shouting about their entitlements to this and that.

And to rub salt into the wounds you usually them have some lefty liberal like Ivana Bacik telling us we are not handing out half enough money to these people.

While at the same she screws the system from the other side with her multiple state jobs and pensions.

Fair points Blanco. I was to stay in the Newbridge area on Wednesday night but forgot to book a hotel in advance. Everything within 45mins of Punchestown was fully booked because of the races. To cut a long story short I finally stayed in Wicklow town and cut across the Gap. Arriving in the hotel at 6pm the bar was mobbed. Went off to my room and came back down at 11 to have a pint and it was still jammed. Was telling the lads I was working with on Thursday that in some places there didn't seem to be a recession and was politely informed that the hotel I stayed in had a reputation for accommodating "up market unemployed" members of the travelling community and the place is hopping most days per week. It just sickened me to hear this.
I have for some reason been fingered out to have an audit by the Revenue nearly every 18 months over the past few 5 years as a company owner who operates above board and see my PAYE and Corporation Tax go and support this sort.
In this country as you indicated, those that deviate from paying their way and shout loudest when those that pay their way and keep the heads down get screwed.

Great to know this is how the bail out money that Britain and the EU gave to Eire is getting spent.
This family are a parable for Eire itself. Money grabbing and irresponsible.

If each of his 8 kids have 8 grandchildren that's possibly 72 nuggets in the pipeline.

On the other hand, your nugget theory may not stand up if this chancer doesn't get his bigger house, the result of which the kids react badly to their Dickensian living conditions and turn out to be a shower of scum-bags, thieves and rapists.

Personally, I think the lazy baxtard is staging his 'protest' to get out of doing a bit of housework. Between the riding, the nappy changing and running an 8 child household singlehandedly, his poor wife must be run ragged. I will certainly be giving the hot-dogs a miss the next time I'm in Limerick just in case this fella resumes business.

I'd love to know what the guys giving out about this situation propose as a solution.

Collars up, no, no one will pay your mortgage for you but if you're unfortunate enough to lose your house then hopefully the council will also provide you with one. Until then I don't see your point.

Too many people feel they are owed/ or are entitled to X, Y and Z. However they are not prepared to get off their back sides and do an honest days work! (even if the opportunity arose there is always an excuse.....)

Those of us fortunate to be working are getting fed up with bailing out the banks/ pensions for politicians/ and the bone idle.

The ones i feel sorry for are the children involved, they never asked to be born. This guy just, in my opinion, is selfish.

Unfcukingbelievable.

Maybe if he moves his 50" plasma into the kitchen he can use the living room as a bedroom and give the poor unfortunate kiddies some space.

How about spending some of his hard earned welfare on an extension or attic conversion, surely he is 'entitled' to some funding to have a bigger house.

Won't someone think of the childer!
